Lack of Knitting

I just moved and am starting school so I do not have a knitting project on the go. It feels so strange to not have something to knit. I just sorted out my yarn and supplies into the attic rec room so hopefully I can start something tonight.

I received an email from the Halifax crafters about applying for a spot for their Christmas fair. They are offering newbie tables for people who are just starting out. I'm going to go through all the stuff I have to sell and pick some for the application. I'm really hope to get a spot. The table is only a four foot table so I don't have to feel like I need a tonne of stuff to fill a full long table.

soy silk and wool hat

I'm starting my last knitting project before I move to a new home with my boyfriend and two really good friends. I'm not moving far, about 5 houses down and one street up.

The project is as the title suggests a soy silk and wool hat. It's 50/50 of both. The colour is light brown and it's so soft. The pattern is done around instead of bottom to top and it's done flat not in a circle. I kinds didn't listen to the beginning of the pattern because I was too lazy to Google something so sewing it up at the end won't be as nice as it would be if I took the time at the beginning. I also can see another mistake I made but I'm not going to worry about it. The hat is for myself so it doesn't  need to be perfect.

I'm knitting myself a new hat because I cut my dreads and hair off and now my hat I usually wear is way too big. The hat colour probably won't look nice with my winter coat or the jacket I knit but it will be nice for the fall and early winter when I'm still wearing sweaters.

This is also my last project before I head to school. I'm going to NSCC in September. I got my book list and before tax my books cost $863 from the school. Each book has like an access code so I don't know of I buy them online if they will come with the code too so I will probably end up talking to my teachers and tell in them I'm poor and I cannot afford their books and maybe they have a copy I can borrow or a second hand one I can buy. My school does not sell second hand books. I think they should as they can make more money off the books and I know people would buy them.

Knit Night Update

I'm sitting at local jo and the lady I want to talk to about the knit night just left. I hope she comes back soon. She said that by mid August she should know if they can host a knit night and if so what night. I want to start making posters and such and start getting the learn to knit packages together. I start school in a few weeks so I would like to get all the organizing for this done by then. Oh the lady came back, lets see what she says.

Okay I talked to her. She still does not know if they will be open an evening in the fall. She said probably not. I feel that if they stayed open for a knit night it would be worth it money wise for them as everyone that comes to knit would probably buy food or a drink.

I will start looking for another place and then maybe local jo will decide to stay open then we can move the group here later.

Maybe having it at my house would work. I will have to talk to the people I live with. I will also talk to just us and some other cafes about this too.

I want to start the knit night for mid September.

Halifax Knit Night looks like a go!

So I heard back from NSCCD and they want to advertise for the knitters group. That would be great as they have weekly newsletters and such. Everyone I have told about it that comes into the café likes the idea.

I'm at local Jo right now and was talking to the lady about using this space in the fall. She is totally happy to have two nights a month for the knit night! She said that they haven't decided if they are going to have the café open till mine a couple nights a week but of they do she is go in to put it on the calendar as a knit night and also advertise in the coast for us. I'm super excited about this. If they don't decide to stay open late she said that we can work something out and that she would like to have this work for us.

They would be no charge for the space except that they would like people to buy a drink or snack.

For those who do not know Local Jo is in the north end at oxford and Liverpool. It's a really nice café that is really cozy.

They are going to email be in two weeks about a day so I will start getting flyers and stuff out once I know.

Another Day Another Cafe

I'm at yet another café today. I find myself at one almost every day. Either I'm at work or I'm at a café knitting or doing laundry. Today is a laundry day. I'm drinking an Ethiopian Guji in a mini press pot.

I didn't bring my knitting though, to be true I don't have a project on the go and my hands are going crazy not knowing what to do. I finished my jacket, my scarf, and a present for a friend which I cannot post on here.

I was given some husky fur a few days ago and I have yet to start spinning it. I feel that since I only have about 50 grams of it I should wait until I get a carder and some wool to mix it with. I don't have any project in mind except spinning it. I just want to see what it's like to spin dog fur. Maybe I will try spinning it alone and see what happens. It's just for fun anyways.

Oh I wish the sun were shinning a bit more. It's not going to rain but I don't know if my laundry will dry that well on the line. I hate using the dryers and I haven't in months. I'll just put it on the line and leave it out while I'm at work and see what happens.

The coffee tree in the café next to me is so green. It's a pretty healthy coffee tree for being in Canada. They also have a lime tree which does really well and I saw a lime on it a few months back. The coffee tree also produces cherries and flowers.

Well to check on my laundry and clean my apartment. I found 2 earwigs so I want to make sure my floors are clean so there is nothing for them to eat.

This is a site that is my go to if I need a pattern or an idea of something to knit. Many of the patterns are free but there are some that you have to pay for. The prices aren't usually that bad and you usually get a direct download.

There are also groups you can join and you can get in touch with other fibre people. There are also forums if you have a question. I found a local knitters group through this site.

It's really great for new and old knitters alike.

Knitters Group in Halifax!!

I'm interested in starting up a knitters and other fibre arts group in the Halifax area. This group will be for people or all levels. Including people who don't know how to knit. I'm thinking about teaching people and providing them with a learn to knit package.

The package would include an illustrated booklet, needles, yarn, 2 patterns, and teaching from me. The package would have a price but it's mostly to cover my costs and I haven't come up with the price yet.

I'm looking for a café to hold this knit night and am also I contact with the Center for Craft about having them involved. I might also seek out the designer craft people and NSCAD about this too. I'm hopping to advertise through them and the 2 yarn stores in town.

I feel fibre arts are an awesome thing and more people should be involved. I want to get more people my age into this art.

I'm at a café right now (as usual) so I'm going to ask them about having a group here in the fall. They rent out the café in the evening to groups. Hopefully it doesn't cost much so I can still have this as a free group. If it does I might have to charge a fee.
