is there an intersex inclusive term or phrase that describes people who spent their childhood being treaated/perceived as girls?
Socially imposed gender - socially imposed as female and socially imposed as male - are the main terms I see used. They don't rely on AGAB (ie; an intersex person AMAB can be socially imposed as female), and they can be used in both intersex and perisex contexts (ie; instead of saying "trans men AFAB" [which is incorrect usage of AGAB language], you'd say "trans men socially imposed as female" because that includes trans men of any AGAB that were treated as girls by society.)
Some people criticize them for sounding close to "socialized as male/female" which has problematic TERF connections, but I think the important part of the term socially imposed gender is the *imposed* part. As in, the person isn't being "socialized" as a gender, but rather, society is *imposing* a gender upon them against their consent.
And someone's socially imposed gender can change. A person once socially imposed as female can later be socially imposed as male, or both simultaneously, or neither. That's known as inconsistent socially imposed gender (ISIG). People who have only one socially imposed gender in their life are known as CSIG (consistent socially imposed gender.)
In the case of ISIG, the inconsistency can be due to being reassigned a gender due to intersexuality, being reassigned a gender due to a cultural gender, transitioning, detransitioning, etc.
shoutout to fat nonbinary people
everyone say thank you to fat nonbinary people
you donât realize how important lunch is until youâre wandering around thinking about how unloveable and untalented and uniquely cursed you are and then itâs 4pm and you finally eat lunch and you go Oh. oh right.
lot of people commenting on this post like "who eats lunch at 4pm that's a terrible time to eat lunch" yes. that is the point. 4pm lunch is inadvisable. 4pm lunch is not the ideal. 4pm lunch makes the mind demons real.

unfortunately very true. Doing Better does not always mean never being upset or never being triggered or never having trouble. often Doing Better means experiencing those things and being able to keep going/cope healthily/move on. if youâre in a bubble with no sensation, if youâre numbing yourself out, thatâs not what recovering really is. it wonât help you have a happier life itâll just make your world smaller and smaller until you canât fit anywhere anymore. gotta learn to make peace with the hard stuff too, thatâs the only way to keep going
âdonât take it personallyâ how would you like me to take it then? professionally? romantically? academically?
you can eat a whole loaf of bread if you want
nobody talks about how exhausting it is to live in that space between "things will get better" and "i can't handle this anymore." it's like your emotions are constantly swinging. leaving you both hopeful and defeated in the same day.
news about pcos today
Decades-long campaign powered by patient perspectives results in switch from PCOS â a name that caused confusion and undue suffering â to PM
a health policy paper has been published saying the name is officially updated to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)
polyendocrine= multiple endocrine factors
metabolic = affecting/affected by metabolism
ovarian = from the ovaries
essentially, instead of using the symptomatic term (many people with PMOS do not develop cysts) the new term widens the diagnostic area and makes it easier to diagnose, treat, and do research on people with PMOS (even atypical types, such as no cysts).
it may seem like a waste of time to change a name instead of focusing on research, but for a lot of medical professionals a name can be associated with a hard set collection of symptoms, so the name needs to change to acknowledge that the disorder is not well understood and has a broader, subtler, and often missed set of symptoms. for example ADD is considered an antiquated/unused term, and now comes under the ADHD umbrella. in healthcare names and terminology changes all the time, and this is a positive change. your local healthcare professional may not know about this unless theyre really up on the news though!
in case you want to read about the name change process that was published in the Lancet (one of the most impactful and well respected medical journals):
Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously named polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), affects one in eight women. However, the
quick reminder that despite the headline from the guardian, you can have PMOS and NOT be a woman, since gender is not linked to biology!!!
Seconding this!
And now that's there's a new acronym I feel compelled to point out that PMOS is an intersex variation!
If you have PMOS and are questioning if you're intersex, I want you to know that PMOS as intersex is extremely uncontroversial within the intersex community. (It's so uncontroversial that pretty much everybody is tired of having to keep repeating this over and over.)
Yes, there are physicians and terfs out there who like to manufacture controversy about the matter. This is because PMOS is common and they are threatened by the notion that being intersex isn't some rare zebra thing. These people suck and actively undermine intersex people from finding community and support.
The phenotypes for PMOS and NCAH are indistinguishable. As the article points out, current medical understanding is this a systemic endocrine syndrome. I would not be surprised if more research reveals PMOS is a kind of CAH.
i was meant to be someones spoiled and mischievous house cat
everyone loves to hate terfs until they realise that it actually entails rejecting bioessentialism entirely and then suddenly youâre âtaking things too seriouslyâ and you âdonât have a sense of humourâ like iâm sorry but saying protect the dolls doesnât make you immune to terfism it has seeped into every corner of mainstream feminism and unless youâre actively searching it out and checking your own biases you will always be at risk of sharing a space with terfs
âOnly women canââ nope. âBut all menââ nah. âThe divine femininity ofââ gonna stop you right there. âEveryone born amaââ if you finish that sentence Iâll kill you. âMen donât experienceââ youâre wrong. âGender isnât real but sex is immââ *loud incorrect buzzer*
It also goes without saying that bioessentialism inherently canât be trans inclusive no matter how hard you try. âAll men including trans menââ probably not. âThis is only a womanâs issueââ is it really? âAfabs onlyââ why? âAll trans men are likeââ what? what are they like? finish the sentence i dare you.
can you put that thing on a leash?
