1. The main point of the article is that Karlie Harman was the first girl to win the Player of the Year from Dulles South Youth Sports. The main point is first illustrated when the author says, “Thirteen-year-old Karlie Harman becomes the first girl to win Player of the Year in Washington D.C., area youth football league.” The idea develops throughout the article. The article starts out talking about Karlie being the only girl who won the Player of the Year award when the article says, “Karlie is the first female quarterback ever to win this award.” Then it starts to talk about her other accomplishments and that she is the only girl in her team called, “Thunder”. The article develops into being more about Karlie being the only girl in her team and proving that she was worthy and strong enough to be in that team.

2. Organization:

The organization of the article is well put together, with a title that informs us about the main idea. The article was short and put into small paragraphs not to overwhelm the reader. The article also sticks to the topic and provides us with examples of the information in the text. This helped me better understand the text because it provided me with information then explained it by providing example for me to further understand the idea. I think the strength of the article is that it was short and also provided us with pictures that caught our attention. This is a strength because the picture catches the reader’s attention and makes them want to read more about the topic. Also, the article being short is a strength because it doesn’t overwhelm or daze the reader with so much information. This would lead me to be more allured and drawn to the article. I think the only weakness the article has is that they didn’t give us any evidence from Karlie, who is the main focus in this article.

Purpose:

The purpose of the article is to inform us of this information, and the author definately succeeded in this. The author used a lot of information and ideas to make sure we were informed about the main idea. Although the author used some football vocabulary in the article, they didn’t flood the text with football vocabulary that would confuse us. The author provided just the right amount of information about Karlie and football that I ended up understanding and being informed of this information after reading this article.

3. Is the article a reliable source for information? - Knowing if the information in the article is genuine can help us know if the text is authentic because reliable articles always provide us with honorable information.

Who wrote the article? - Knowing who wrote the article will help determine it’s credibility because then we would know if it’s an experienced news reporter or just a random teenager or kid posting online.

4. I believe this article is reliable. Firstly, because we can tell that the author seems to know a lot about football leagues and the sport itself because the author provides us with many information about famous football leagues that proves they are credible. Secondly, because the author of the article supports their ideas with examples that shows us that they have the knowledge about this topic and that their words are worthy enough for us to believe. Finally, the reason I believe this article is credible is because they gave us words from people personally close to her like her mother and her coach that proves that the author is a reliable person to turn to when talking about Karlie and her life as a female on a football team.

Do you like Christopher? What about his father? And his mother? Are they good people? Do you sympathize them when they behave unskilfully, or blame them for their faults? Write two paragraphs.

I like Christopher and I think he is a very unique character. I like him because he has his own way of thinking and dealing with things rather than just sticking with the stereotypes like many other people. I like Christopher because he is really intelligent and funny without even trying to be funny and I think the funniest people are the people who don’t intend on being funny. I also like Christopher’s father. I like Christopher’s father because even though he gets angry at Christopher, he still settles it by being the bigger man and apologizing. Yes Christopher’s father has anger issues, but he never does it on purpose. Sometimes his father can’t contain himself and just acts out without thinking and that’s no reason to not like a person. On the other hand, I don’t like Christopher’s mother. I think she was selfish and only thought of herself when she left her family. She left because she felt like Christopher and his father had a better bond with each other than her and Christopher. That’s no reason to leave your family. Parenting is not a competition. If she feels she doesn’t have a good bond with her son, then she should do something about it rather than running away from her problems.

I think there bad people. There are only good people with good intension, and good people with bad intentions. I think Christopher and his father have good intentions and don’t mean to do the irrational things they do. I also think Christopher’s mother has good intentions, but they aren’t smart intentions. I think her intentions are dumb because she left her family rather than solving the problem. I do sympathize them when they behave unskilfully. I don’t think they mean to act illogically. I think they only intend on fixing a problem, but end up doing it incorrectly which leads to more problems, but they always end up fixing it at the end. I don’t blame them for their faults. Nobody is perfect and everyone has different ways of dealing with things and its wrong to judge people for the way they act when its not what they mean to do and don’t know hoe to act in a situation.

Social Media

Alright, I’m going to speak truthfully.

Before this project, I used to think social media was a nice way to know about people’s lives and to post things that happen in your life that people find interesting. I used to think the main reason to post things on social media was to get likes and make your posts popular. On the other hand, now that I did this project, I think social media is more than just a way to post online to get attention and likes, I think social media is a good way to learn from other people and their judgements on different things, a good way to teach people your ideas, and a great way to learn about things going on in the world that you never heard about.

Now to the people who, for some reason, think of social media negatively. Social media is not a bad thing. Yes, sometimes it can be a bad thing when people misuse it like when people use it to bully others or get distracted and never get there homework done, but social media still has its perks. Social media can be useful and educating too rather than just bad. It can help us learn new and helpful things from other people’s point of views and know about things going on in the world by reading news articles. It also helps us gain our confidence if we ever had difficulty speaking to people face to face. It helps us gain confidence by speaking our judgements without fear of people disagreeing with you and judging you in front of you. It gives us a chance to step out of our comfort zone and show our true colors.

Violence is Never the Answer.

“ Violence can be a reasonable response to an unreasonable situation.” I disagree with this statement mainly because I think that violence is never the answer and I have always been an advocate of that. I think that in most situations that we encounter we should never use violence as a response despite what the problem happens to be. Violence is not a responsible act and makes the situations much worse and most likely you will fall into a spiral of trouble.

I think that using strong words is a responsible thing to do when put in an unreasonable situation and if that can’t be achieved then you could ask for assistance from a more experienced group of people like the police. Let’s take Christopher for example from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time and how he hit the policeman because he didn’t like being touched, and we know how that turned into a bigger problem with Christopher getting a warning from the police and made matters much worse. I know that Christopher has a disorder that makes him think and act the way he does but generally speaking this example shows how violence can turn a whole situation upside down.

But we need to understand the difference between violence and self-defence. Self-defence is a form of violence but it is a way to protect yourself from people who go beyond just verbally arguing or harassing. Self-defence is used in situation where you need to protect yourself from physical harm that may happen to you, like someone hitting you, stabbing you, or any other form of physical harm. Violence on the other hand is used in unnecessary ways, for example when Christopher’s father grabbed him during their fight about the book, that was not a necessary thing to do and it didn’t help father’s side of the argument rather it just made the bad situation worse.
