A big reason why I think I became a marxist is bc I read A LOT of Calvin & Hobbes and Bill Watterson really went out of his way to lay the groundwork for teaching people critical analysis. Like take this panel for example:

He criticizes the "satanic" bands not for some lack of christian morals but because theyre a byproduct of hyperconsumptionist culture. Bill takes no issue with the subject matter bc his issue is knowing its only being done to sell rebellion as a consumer product rather than to say anything truly provocative or inspired.

Specifically that it's the legacy of the West, which is white supremacist coded as all fuck, implying as it does that the Western Europe a) always made the best art and b) is currently declining in its art making ability (guess what guys who believe that usually blame said decline on?)

But also describing it as something that Western men traditionally fought and died for, when actually for the past couple of centuries the main thing that Western countries have been fighting over is the right to land and resources from other countries— especially ones that have traditionally been described as 'the East'.
