Kyari’s Guide to Selfies in Eorzea
So people keep asking me like “How do you take selfies?” “When do I unlock the ability to take selfies?” “Where is the /selfie command?” “Will you please stop taking selfies in the middle of Omega Savage?”, and so I finally figured it was time to share my secret with the world!
Step 1: Go find somewhere to take a selfie/someone to take it with! Admittedly this step is largely optional because let’s face it, the focus of the image is you!
Step 2: Figure out which emotes work as selfie prompts for your race/gender!
Wait, wait, wait, come back! I can tell I’m losing you all there, because Step 2 of a how-to guide is immediately “FIGURE IT OUT” right? But the truth is that all of the races/genders have different versions of emotes. What works for some characters doesn’t work for others. The important thing to remember is that the emote only needs to have an arm positioned correctly for a fraction of a second.
The long and short of it is, try combinations of /welcome, /comfort, /wave, /point, /pet or /songbird (if you have it). Anything that has even a few frames of your arm out stretched
An unfortunate problem with taller races, Roe girls especially, is that a lot of their emotes angle downward, so its just going to take some trial and error to get there.
Step 3: Add a facial emote. Its important to do this AFTER you make the motion you want. Optional Step 3.5: Set up a macro (add “motion” after your emotes so as to avoid spamming chat with emote text):
Step 4: Position yourself appropriately and hit that macro. Try to keep in mind where your character is going to have their arm when it comes to positioning things in the shot with you. If your “camera” is going to be in your right hand, position the shot behind and to the left, or vice versa for your left hand.
Step 5: /gpose
Step 6: In gpose you’re going to want to roughly position your camera in the direction you want to face, force your character to face the camera hitting Pause/Break on your keyboard, or Y/Triangle on your controller.
For an added bonus; any other player characters, nearby minions or NPCs who head track to look at your character will also turn to face the camera in gpose.
Once you’re satisfied with the angle, its a game of pausing your animation at just the right frame to make it look like your arm is going to be off holding a camera. If you don’t know how to pause it, you can hit the buttons at the top of the GPose Settings screen (Accessed with R/* or Square/X) or by pressing the ½ keys or LT/RT/L2/R2 for just you or your party/npcs.
Step 7: ZOOM THAT CAMERA WAY IN (Fine tuning the position as necessary).
For best results, fully zoom in the default camera, and then zoom even further using the Gpose camera position option as below:
Step 8: Give your shot a bit of a dutch angle by spinning the camera on its axis a little to make it feel like a more naturally held shot:
Step 9: (Optional) Add some subtle/softer lighting if you feel like you need it. I tend to stick to low lighting on Type 1 (as this only effects characters and not the environment around you):
Step 10: Take the picture.
And that’s about it! Just play around with it, female midlanders have a really easy time of it, but different emotes and angles can achieve great results with just about every race if you have the patience to experiment!
Enjoy!

Not easy to say that, but finally I do it…
Great work! These are gorgeous!
“I dated a Lalafellin man once.”
“It was like this.”
...I think I’ll just go back to picking things myself.
Tired of trying to figure out where Mikha gets hurt in IC battles (distant attacks, like gun shots), I figured there must be some sort of random body picker online. So I googled, and there is! http://www.getrandomthings.com/list-body-parts.php
I used it to see where Mikha had just gotten shot:
Maybe picking spots myself isn’t so bad after all…

“So I shared some drinks with some fine folks down at the Kugane Piers the other night. One of them told me, repeatedly and at-length, that I was a ‘Negima-lookin’ son of a bitch’. I have no idea what that means, so I can only assume that it’s a Hingan term of endearment~”
“So, Black Magic is still really super incredible. Foul is a great spell and you all should go learn it posthaste~”
