The final efforts to find Denmark's Best Bøfsandwich has begun. Cross-checking among the judges. This way, we are 100% sure that this is the real winner we will announce. Today is Marslev Grill Cafe. It is very clear that Marslev is a 5/5 Bøfsandwich. Homemade steak and Flæskestegs sovs (gravy made from roasted porkbelly, both with a great taste. Good homemade pickled cucumbers and beetroots. A specialty here is that  mustard is the only topping - no remoulade or ketchup. The upperside of the bun is sprinkled with lovely HP sauce and this is very enjaoyable. Casa Tridente Pizzeria

Previous I wrote about my urge to build my own pizzaoven after having tried a real woodfired pizzaoven  - The Ultimate Pizzaexperience I couldn't wait, so I also "jumped the fence" and bought a turnkey oven. Quite large one to be able to have real pizzaparties with 3-4 pizze in the oven at the same time. Yesterday was trialnight, therefore only 2 pizze per bake. The result was really good.

Thin Pizzes with real Italian taste, which is only possible in a woodfired oven. I was almost singing "O Sole Mio" while baking. Improvement could be made on the dough, but hey not a bad first time.

Pizzeria Tridente it is.

P-Grillen Svenstrup disappointing 3/5

Another great place to enjoy a Bøfsandwich, should according to rumors be : P-grillen in Svenstrup. After last weeks bad experience at Hyttefadet, my expectations were really high to visit this Diner. Sadly I once more were let down with the feeling that most of this journey is uphill.

The looks was great and size was gigantic, but with standardbeef (made out of rubber) I had to fight to eat this piece. As usual fried onions and mustard are left out.

What a shame because these elemements add so good flavour and bite to the bøfsandwich. Especially if the fried onions has been near (or into) the gravy. Bøfsandwich gravy with oniontaste is soooo delicious. But this wasnt the case here.

All in all my tastbud were left very disappointed with all these standard components and hardly no bite.

Conclusion - 3/5

Hyttefadet Hirtshals - Hall of Shame 2/5

This well reputated grilljoint in the northwestern corner of Jutland was one my to do list in a long time. I was really excited about my visit but sadly I was so dissapointed.

The beef was not homemade and like made out of rubber and I really missed the mustard and the fried onions. To compensate for this - local speciality is to use pickl'd red cabbage in (eeeewww...). The gravy was anonymous and boooooring.

So in fact I ended up with only eating ½ of the bøfsandwich and quitting. What a shame , this joint has a huge potential  but doesnt use it.

Worst bøfsandwich-experience ever - The verdict : 2/5

Havnegrillen Aabenraa - Higly Reccommendable 5/5 + 4/5

This is one of the places you should go if you wants to experience genuine danish "Grill / Diner"

Havnegrillen participated in the contest : "Boersens Hotdog Challenge 2012" Where they took home the 2nd place in the category: "Traditional Hotdog". I had the pleasure to taste it, as an "inbetween dog" during the day where I was one of the judges in the "Gourmet Hotdog" category.

In 2013 their goal is ofcourse 1st. place My comment : Go for it Havnegrillen we need you there.

After having all that traditional Danish Easterfeast with all you can eat in chocolate eggs, my stomach was asking for some real food.

So what could be better than a good hotdog experience? I'll tell you  - a Hotdog & Bøfwsandwich experience :)

Knowing that Havnegrillen in Aabenraa master their Hotdogs to perfection, I was quite convinced I also had to try their Bøfsandwich too. So this winning combo was born

I was treated with the good sausage, high meat content from the local butcher.  I love the freshly baked hotdogbread, (also from the local baker) is so long it can cover the whole "Wurst". And the homemade cucumberrelish added the litle extra.

Clearly this is a 5/5 Hotdog Under normal circumstances I would have ordered one more of this magnificent dog, but the exiting face of the Bøfsandwich were waiting. The Bøfsandwich was also very tasty with homemade beef and buns  + almost everything (except for the missing of the fried onions). Please also note the nice big chunky slices of pickl'd cucumbers = joy The gravy was reheated in the microwave - but tasty.

That's why I "only" rate the bøfsandwich a 4/5 For sure I will be back here as soon as I get the oportunity and so should you.

As they say in Southern Jutland : "Æ do tumpe man - dæ ækt ma få æ manfolk !"  (are you crazy - thats real food for men)

Chickygrill Copenhagen 5/5

In the heart of Copenhagen lies the legendary Chickygrill that serves the evenmore legendary “Jyllingeburger”.

As previous mentioned gravy in the Bøfsandwich in Copenhagen is rare. However in Chickygrill they have the Famous “Don Jylling” who emigrated from Jutland bringing the nice gravytraditions with him to our capital city of Copenhagen. After a long day at work nothing was more satisfying than this treat. Featuring a magnificent gravy, with a taste of roasted pig - and soft fried onions. Only negative words : “standard factory pickl’d cucumbers”

But nevertheless higly recomendable with the score 5/5 GO THERE !

Østerbro Grillen 4/5

Nothing has changed here for years, so you still get a decent danish diner style bøfsandwich.

Earlier pioneers visisted this northly destination years ago and at that time praised the food.  Therefore I was happy to finally get the chance to go here.

The dinerwoman prepared my Bøfsandwich and I was happy with the result. Perfectly roasted bun, Lovely thick beef that had been swimming in the gravypool. I was treated with 3 kinds of onions, so only good things to says about the accessories. Only my beloved mustard was missing - what a shame. It was although easy to correct the error with addding the mustard from one of the bottles standing on the counter.  Another classic misdeed was the factorymade pickl'd cucumbers and beetroots - but hey this is more or less the same in 95% of all our tastings so far. Considering how easy it is to pickl' - and how happy it makes the "BøfsandwichConnoisseurs" this is the most stupid shortcut to take.

This is why I can only rate this 4/5

Østerbrogrillen is located in the city of Skive, the city that also houses one of the best Danish breweries : HANCOCK - home to many great beers and sodas e.g. The Gambrinus beer, The Saaz Brew, Hancock Cola - still my no.1 and finally the SPORT-COLA. This mix of Cola and lemon/lime gains greater popularity every day, and the fact that it is not available all over Denmark, makes it even more hyped with +8K fans on Facebook - So Coca Cola you better watch out :)  So my choice to accompany todays Bøfsandwich was obvious the Hancock SPORT-COLA.

Todays journey took me to this new but already well reputated Diner in the midle of Jutland. 

Here you can get also danish traditionally cooked meals.

Outstanding here was the beef - very delicious. Hard for me to admit, but too much mustard. Never ending story about the pickl'd cucumbers and the missing fried onions

All in all a decent but average Bøfsandwich 3/5

Bratwurst Röslein - 5/5 Experience

During my businesstrip to Germany this week I had the pleasure of visiting the Worlds Biggest Bratwurst Restaurant - Bratwurst Röslein in Nürnberg. The restaurant is very nice despite of its size. Bratwurst Röslein is 600+ guests inside (+250 outside in biergarten during summmer).

My evening was spent in The Small Kaiserstube. A very nice room made as a replica of “The Kaisers” room in the old Nürnberger Castle. True beerdrinking enviroment. For starters it was Zirndorfer Kellerbier and Bretzels - always a winning combination. I wonder why we did not implement this in Denmark ???

In my early years I had this odd thought that the German Sauerkraut was an totally awfull thing. But my last 15 years as a Journeyman made me more objective and understanding in many aspects - including the aspects of food. So for me the combination of small roasted Nürnberger Sausages and Hot Sauerkraut is just perfect :)

The main course consisted of assorted specialities from the kitchen. Well roasted Nürnberger Sausages, tender Sweinehaxe with crunchy skin, Roasted duck, hot Sauerkraut, Shredded sweet’n Sour red cabbage, 2 kinds of Knödels + lovely sauce. The Waiters brought the Kellerbier and the Spetzels until we could not eat and drink more - and that was quite long time. Especially being together with my Viking colleges from Sweden and Norway. “Doris - Die Wikinger haben Durst”

After this 5 star experience we continued out in the night.

Well done Bratwurst Röslein - I rate you 5/5
