New York State of Mind

Ever since I visited New York City last spring, I've been dying to go back. I went for the first time about 4-5 years ago and didn't really think much of it, but I fell in love during my last trip. I spent the day in the city on Friday. It was a gorgeous day; the sun was shining, there was a crisp chill in the air, and the fall colors were still as vibrant as ever.

I got off the train at Grand Central and headed over to Central Park to find the Balto statue. Balto is one of my favorite childhood movies, and when I realized the statue Rosie visits in the movie is actually in NYC and not Alaska, I put that at the top of my list of things I needed to see.

I then walked through the park a bit to take in the beautiful sights and everything it has to offer.

Next, I took in the breathtaking views of the city from the observation decks at the Top of the Rock. I was in awe, and it was really nothing like I had ever seen before.

The main reason for my trip was to reunite with my friends from Ithaca and celebrate Cortaca. I wasn't able to make it back to school for the game last year, so I was really happy to be able to make it into the city this year to watch the game. It's always great catching up with my college friends since we're spread out all over the place and don't get to see each other very often. Ithaca lost the game on a crazy play to end the game, but it's ok, because it's always a great day to be a Bomber!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I don't know about you, but fall is my absolute favorite season. The cooler temperatures, the beautiful scenery, the return of football, basketball, and hockey, as well as the MLB playoffs. I'll admit, the baseball postseason isn't quite as intriguing without the Red Sox, but as a sports fan, there's nothing better than having all 4 major sports going at once.

I went apple picking for the first time this year, and I turned my collection into homemade apple sauce. The smell of the apples and cinnamon cooking in my crock pot was to die for. Almost as amazing as the apple sauce itself!

Although the temperatures have only cooled off in the last couple of weeks or so, the foliage has been perfect. There is nothing I love more than the colors of the leaves changing, so I wanted to share some photos I've taken while being out and about enjoying what the fall season has to offer.

Cape Escape

My summer vacation is officially over. I spent last week down the Cape with my family, then I had a few other adventures before heading back to work today. Take a look at some highlights from my time away:

I ran my first Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, August 17. Took this picture of the start line before heading out on the 7-mile course.

The race starts in beautiful Woods Hole, then it goes along the beach through Falmouth and ultimately ends in Falmouth Heights.

Around 12,000 runners participate in the race. This was my view as I lined up to start the race.

Spent a few relaxing days at Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA.

There is nothing more beautiful than a Cape Cod sunset. This was at Skaket Beach in Brewster, MA.

You haven't had ice cream until you've eaten at Sundae School. This is the original location in Dennisport, MA.

Nobska Lighthouse in Falmouth, MA was the final stop before leaving the Cape.

I left the Cape, but my vacation continued. I celebrated my best friend's birthday in South Boston, then capped off my time off with a company picnic at Lake Compounce in CT, where I posed with the Heisman Trophy.

I'm Back!

After a long hiatus, I'm back to blogging! It's been a busy but exciting time since I last posted, but I'm definitely going to put more effort into updating my blog on a consistent basis. So, here's some of my adventures from the last week:

My parents came for a visit on Saturday, and we took a trip down to New Haven. After moving to Connecticut, I've been trying to explore and see what this state has to offer. New Haven has been on my list for a while. We ate lunch at a delicious seafood restaurant along the water front, then we headed over to explore the Yale University campus. It's always interesting to visit college campuses and see how each one is different and unique, and I especially love checking out the Ivy League colleges. Yale's campus was absolutely beautiful!

This past "weekend," I went down to the Cape to visit my friend and her family. Cape Cod is my absolute favorite place in the world, and I was so excited to head down for the first time this summer. My drive had me a little worried since it was pretty rainy, but a little after I arrived at the cottage, the sun came out and it turned out to be a pretty nice beach day. Tuesday was also a pretty perfect beach day, and it was nice to just sit in the sun and relax. It was a much needed mini-getaway!

A New Year...

We're a few days into 2014, and I've finally completed my new year's resolutions. Every year, we think of things we'll vow to do, but how many people actually stick to them?

This year, I want to make sure I follow through, so I decided to take a few new approaches. First, I wrote them down in a journal. I felt that writing them down would make them more permanent, and it would be a constant reminder of what I want to do in the new year. And, second, I decided to share them here:

1. Eat healthy

Like many people, I want to focus on my health this year. But, I don't want to set unrealistic expectations. I don't want to limit myself and feel guilty if I want to indulge in sweets or junk food here and there, but I want to make a more conscious effort of not drinking too much soda or not eating that cookie after dinner when I can have a piece of fruit instead.

2. Exercise 3x a week

3. Run the Falmouth Road Race in August

This fall, I ran my first road race and really enjoyed it. I used to be in a lot better running shape during my high school soccer years, and I decided I wanted to get back there. I thought a fun way to stay motivated was to start running races. That way, it would keep me on an exercise schedule and give me something to work toward. I want to make sure I'm staying consistent with my exercising, and through that, I want to train for the Falmouth Road Race. My dad used to run it when I was younger. I always knew I wanted to run the 7 mile race, and I think this is finally the year. Fingers crossed I get a number!

4. Save money

I love to shop, I love to go out to dinner, I love to spend money, so this year, I want to do a better job of living on a budget and saving money. I found this awesome 52-week challenge on Pinterest that I'm going to try. Take a look!

5. Read one book every month

I'm a huge TV person and not a big reader. But, I want to change that. I have a lot of unread books on my bookshelf and a few that I got during the holidays, so my goal is to read one book every month. Hopefully, I'll read more than 12 books by the end of the year, but I'm going to start small and eventually work my way toward becoming a book worm.

I wanted to make my resolutions doable, but also give myself a challenge so that by the end of 2014, I can feel like I accomplished something.

It's hard to believe another year has come and gone. 2013 was full of great experiences and many momentous occasions. I graduated from college, got a job, and moved. Sure, there were plenty of ups and downs along the way. I had a difficult but successful senior year academically, but I definitely managed to have a lot of fun along the way. And, people saying finding a job is hard is the biggest understatement of all time. It was a stressful summer trying to figure out where I was going and what I relaly wanted to do, but i finally realized that everything DOES happen for a reason.

I'm a little sad to see 2013 come to an end. It's probably my best year so far, but I'm excited to see what 2014 has in store for me. I'm ready to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way, and I hope to have a lot of fun while doing it.

With the new year approaching, I've been thinking of different things to incorporate into my overall resolution. Like most people, exercising and eating healthy is at the top of my list. But, we all know how difficult it can be to actually stay consistent with that all year long. So, something I decided to do was get back into blogging. I think it will be easy to stick to and fun at the same time.

I first created this blog a little over two years ago when I spent a semester in LA. It was a way for me to keep my friends and family back home updated on everything I was doing from classes, to my internship, to exploring a new city and state. I tried to keep up with it when I returned home and back to school, but I got off track.

I'm not really sure what I want to make of this blog, but for now it's going to be a place for me to share random thoughts, interests, and whatever else comes to mind.

Here's an early Happy New Year's wish to everyone, and I hope you-- and I--can all find some resolutions to make 2014 better than ever.

Last week of April, 2 weeks from summer vacation, and a snowstorm in Ithaca.

Sports and celebrity gossip, Mom knows me so well!

I got my Easter basket in the mail today. It contained the usual mini Cadbury eggs (my favorite part of Easter), and some other chocolate goodies.

Plus, two new magazines to read! I'm always ready to catch up on my entertainment news, especially when one of the Kardashians is on the cover! And what a perfect day to get something about the Red Sox since it is opening day after all! They lost, but they just need to get a win before their seventh game of the season to have a better start than last year. Let's all keep our fingers crossed.

Well, the first week back from spring break is just about over, and what a week it was! If I didn't know any better, I would say it was summer instead of the very beginning of spring. The weather has been absolutely beautiful, but with that comes a major lack of motivation to anything, especially school work. It's hard enough returning from a week off, but it seems like all of the students on campus, even some of the professors, are still in break mode.

It was so nice to be able to leave the jackets in my closet and break out the flip flops. I also didn't dread the 20 minute walk to and from my apartment because it felt so good to be in the sun and warm weather. I even got some color! More of a burn than a tan, but what else is new!

Of course today, I was put back to reality a little bit because I had a test this morning. I think it went well, but it's still tough to go to class when the weather is so nice outside. I want to take advantage of it before it goes away. This is Ithaca after all, so who knows when it'll be back!

It's safe to say I'm ready for the weekend. I'm so excited to see The Hunger Games tomorrow night. I'm going with my friends Meg and Kyla, who I haven't seen since we left LA in December. I also have Newswatch Sunday, but other than that, I'll be sure to relax!

It's hard to believe there are only seven weeks until the semester is over, and I know it's going to fly...and then I'll be a senior, which is such a scary thought. But, there are still a few things to look forward to in the coming weeks. My parents are coming to visit for a weekend at the end of April, and I also get to play softball again for the first time in over a year. The Ithaca Bombsquad has a double-header, so it'll be nice to hit the field again!

Before I know, it'll be May 11 and I'll be leaving Ithaca for the summer!

Procrastination is my worst enemy right now. I would like to say it's this paper that I have due tomorrow and have been putting off, but my ability to find other things to do is actually the problem. I am so ready for spring break, but I still have to get through another week and a half. Luckily, I don't have too much work to get done before I go home, but I can tell the days are going to pass by very slowly until then. That hopefully won't happen, but Friday definitely can't come soon enough!

What a weekend! My friend Kerry finally made a visit- she promised that she would come to Ithaca once during our four years in college. It was so much fun; I've never had a guest come see me basically because it's too far for everyone to get to.

She arrived late Friday night and we just hung out at my apartment. Saturday, she joined me at an event in Ithaca that I was covering for Newswatch 16. She also got to walk around The Commons for a few minutes. Chili Fest was this weekend, so it was really crowded. She also got to try some local food: we had brunch at Collegetown Bagel and dinner at the Ithaca Ale House. That night, we met up with some of my friends for a fun night out.

Sunday, Kerry got to be in the newsroom for Newswatch, and it was fun for someone to see in person what I'm always talking about. It was a good show for her to see, and it was cool to show a friend some of the things I do at school.

She left this morning, and then I was off to class. As usual, another weekend went by too quickly. It was really fun having Kerry in Ithaca, and hopefully she can come again when I'm a little less busy.

Just completed the first live edition of Newswatch 16 Sunday! I did a package on the 4th Annual Designing With Native Plants Symposium, which was very interesting to hear about. Overall, it was a great show, especially for it being the first live one.

It felt great to back in the Newswatch swing. I thought I would be a little rusty, but once I got re-accustomed to everything, the editing came right back to me. I'm very excited for what this semester has in store, so be sure to tune in Sunday nights if you're in the Ithaca area, or check us out on ictv.org! Another week gone and what a long one it was. I've been sick all week with a head cold, so I think that made everything drag even more. Despite not feeling well, it was an important week for setting up my semester.

Sunday, I had my ICTV auditions. I will be a reporter on Sundays for Newswatch 16, and I will be covering the Cornell women's softball team for Sports Final (once their season starts, of course.) There were a few meeting here and there to get back in to the swing of things- going over the guidelines for each show and getting re-acclimated with the expectations from the producers and directors.

I'm excited for what this semester will bring. I definitely missed being involved with ICTV while I was in LA, so I'm ready to get back in the swing of thins and keep learning everything I'll need to know before next May comes.

Hopefully, I can get some rest this weekend to start feeling better before everything really gets going. I have practice cast for Newswatch this Sunday, with a special taping time to accommodate some football game that night, or something like that.

Who am I kidding, I'm pumped for the Super Bowl Sunday. It's going to be a tough game, and I have a feeling I'm going to be stressing during the entire thing. But, I do think the Patriots will win. No doubt the Giants are a great team, but there is something about this Patriots team that won't let this opportunity slip away.
