BLOG: Mega Man 12 (Dual Override) Winning Entries + Bosses
Greetings from KMR Studios! Iām your host and fellow freelance artist KR back, here again for a much deserved special blog post!
For those living under the same rock weāre getting a brand new Mega Man game, more specifically a new entry in the original Mega Man series, that being Mega Man 12! Yeah, screw that Dual Override subtitle that was obviously taken from Marvel studiosā playbook where they ditched numbers in their sequels. Itās Mega Man 12. Deal with it, naysayers.
Whoa, what a rush! Anyways, Capcom launched a contest for everyone to submit their entry for a robot master provided it was based on a template where said robot master had a suction arm. And since Mega Man was a major artistic influence for yours truly growing up, I performed my civic duty and submitted a design as part of the contest aka Desert Man. If you wanna see my entry, feel free to click here to check it out.
Last month, the six final entries have been chosen and sadly, mine wasnāt one of them. Even still, it was fun to take part in the contest, and I hope we get to do another one of these contests in future Mega Man titles.
But thatās not all, we also got silhouettes of the other 7 robot masters that will appear in the game.
So what Iām going to do is give my thoughts on each of the six winning entries and what I think is the best one. And then, Iām going to talk about the silhouettes and theorize what kind of robot masters we should expect in the sequel.
So, letās begin with the six winning entries! Iāve got a personal favourite, but Iāll save that one for last. For now, letās start with:
Not sure about this one, doesnāt scream āRobot Masterā material. More like if Roll snapped when trying to clean a house seen on that show āHoardersā. But she does remind me of Marie from Skullgirls. Based on the types of attacks seen in this image, I donāt know if sheād make a good boss. Then again, there was that robot maid from Waku Waku 7. So anythingās possible. Now letās sweep this one under the rug & move on to the next entry.
Love the colour scheme on this one. And the design is okay, but I like the head more than his suction arm. Reminds me too much of Dust Man when it comes to attacks and he just looks weird with the way the suction arm looks. Honestly, Dust Man is still better than Recycle Man. Plus, heās got awesome stage music. Winner by default.
A firefighter Robot Master? Sounds like an interesting design. Fire hose arm that connects to fire hydrant? Check. Axe hand that tosses axes? Water that shoots out of his head? Cool concept, but there are better ones I prefer. Plus, gamers would be making some many jokes about Valve & Gabe Newall š¤£. Ahem, NEXT!
This one is very unique. A Robot Master who juggles three balls and one of themās his f**king head! WOW. Design-wise, heās definitely got some Air Man/Wind Man influences there. Heād probably be a wind-based Robot Master if his attacks & how he plays is any indication. Definitely a good one.
Say what you want his admittedly flamboyant design, this Robot Master is something to look at. The white & dark pink colour scheme, the translucent arms & legs, the spinning brush on his suction arm, and letās not forget his cool hair. Not sure about his brush attack, but the spinning attack is nice. Not big on the name though. Iād say call him Polish Man, but Polish folks are freakinā touchy (Only kidding, Polish readers). Who knows what theyāll call him if heās chosen, which he probably wonāt be.
And now we have my favourite of the bunch. I mean, look at his looks & his name. Heās a freakinā cactus! His colour scheme is cool and I love how he changes colour & forms when he absorbs water or sand, each with a different kind of attack. Yāknow, like an actual cactus! And he can even hit you with his whip! I tell you, folks. This Robot Master would put Plant Man & even Spike Rosered from Mega Man X5 to shame. And I hope he gets chosen for the finished product. Please, Capcom. Make it happen!
Okay, now for the main event: The Robot Master Silhouette guessing game! Letās speculate on who the new bosses could be based on the silhouettes!
*Due to the limit of images on a post, Iāve had to merge the following images into one. Sorry!
This oneās interesting. Obviously a humanoid robot, but the circular orbs has me thinking that this is either a tail or attached to his head. Could be for a lightbulb if itās a head attachment or a scorpion tail if it actually is a tail. If heās a scorpion, then heāll probably be called Sting Man since obviously Scorpion Man almost borders on a certain Spider-Man villain. Sounds pretty cool if heās Sting Man.
Definitely screams Search Man with the two identical heads. Willing to bet this is some sort of Siamese twin-type robot that possibly splits apart (like Gemini Man) to attack from both sides of the playing field. Therefore, Iām gonna call him Split Man. And if Capcom does call him that, I expect to be paid handsomely for calling it first.
Not much to go by with this one. The head makes it look like Crash Man (or Clash Man for you Japanese folk), but itās not him. At a closer glance, the cone-shaped headpiece could be anything, but Iām throwing it out there that this could be a fighter-jet type of robot master and that the headpiece is the front of the jet. Maybe he transforms into a jet? Iām subbing him Jet Man until heās officially revealed. If you curious as to how a Jet Man would fight, check out Mega Man Unlimited, a Mega Man fan game created by MegaPhilX.
Your guess is as good as mine with this one. The only clues are the head & the bottom. The headās obviously a cannon and Iām willing to bet thatās a cape or cloak from what I can gather by his feet. Other than that, Iāve got nothing.
Gotta be a shark-type robot master with the shape of the head. Or could it be a witchās hat, hence our 2nd canon female robot master since Splash Woman? If itās a shark, heād have water-based attacks. A witch would be something like Magic Man from Mega Man & Bass. Canāt to see what he/she looks like.
Definitely shaped like a cat. However, itās not a cat since this isnāt a Mega Man X game. Regardless, cool looking shape. And judging by those things on his legs, this is more than likely a fire-based robot master. A wild one to be exact.
Iāll be honest, this silhouette reminds me of Aluce, the maverick from the opening cutscene in Mega Man X7 who gets wasted by Axl. If you donāt believe me, check out the clip on YouTube and tell me with a straight face that aināt a coincidence. Similarities aside, Iām getting some Napalm Man vibes going off by his head & feet. Definitely treads for feet and a cannon on his head, which makes me think of two things: 1) Maybe heās a tank-type robot master, henceforth Tank Man. And 2) Did Capcom actually see the aforementioned Mega Man Unlimited fan game? Interestingā¦
And that concludes my thoughts on both the winning Robot Master entries & the Robot Masters for Mega Man 12! Which of the is your favourite?
