Excerpt: Kuroko caught a glimpse of the dragon’s ghastly face: steam sizzling out of the two wide nostrils, a slightly gaping jaw where rows of jagged ivory teeth were silhouetted by a glowing orange light deeper within its throat, and two mismatched eyes; one eye, a brilliant scarlet red to match the splendor of his scales, and the other, golden in color.
And though he knew it was not possible to see him, Kuroko still shuddered as those mismatched eyes with their slit pupils swept over him. His skin felt like it was burning under the intensity of the dragon’s gaze. Yet he dared not even let a sigh of relief escape his lips when at last the creature turned its head away.
He did have time to note the spiked ridges that trailed down the back of the dragons’s spine before the end of the coiled tail came crashing into the side of his head.

This is an SS gift for Komaedy in knbsecretsanta's 2013 event! One of her requests was a crossover between Seijuurou of Free! and Seijuurou of KnB, and if you know me at all, you'll know I couldn't possibly pass that up. I hope you like it!
"Shut up and open your mouth." Kagami’s face grew into a dark shade of red.
Akashi smirked and parted his mouth open for Kagami to slip in a spoon of ice cream.
Kagami’s face scrunched up. “Why are we eating ice cream in the winter anyway? Doesn’t that intensify the coldness?”
"Because ice cream tastes better in the winter." Akashi said it so matter-of-factly, that Kagami found it hard to argue. "It tastes even better if there’s somebody to keep you warm." He smirked again when Kagami’s face returned to a bright red colour.
"Shut up and stuff your face." Kagami, blushing furiously, shoved another spoon of ice cream towards the person cuddled to the left of him on their couch and looked away. Akashi’s didn’t even bother to hide his smile.
Before taking in another spoon of green tea ice cream, Akashi asked Kagami, “Arn’t you going to eat some too?”
I might take a cup after you finish this one,” Kagami replied letting the spoon slip out from Akashi lips, and widened his eyes when those same lips touched his.
The two mouths separated with their hearts beating slightly faster than a few minutes before. “You’re right.” The ice cream had already melted in Kagami’s mouth. “The ice cream tastes even better in the winter when there’s someone to keep you warm.”
"Of course." Akashi adjusted the two of them so that he was sitting in front of Kagami, between his legs. With Akashi’s back to his chest, Kagami leaned his back on the arm rest of the couch. "I’m always right."
Kagami chuckled. Akashi was always right.
Welcome home
"I’m home~"
Nijimura slipped off his shoes and started dragging himself to the living rom, where an apron was left on a chair at the dining table. To his pleasant surprise, he found Seijuuro sleeping on the couch, apron left on a chair at the dining table.
As quietly as possible, Nijimura set his briefcase on the same chair and crouched in front of Seijuuro to study his sleeping face. This was a rare chance, since Seijuuro always managed to fall asleep a few minutes after Nijimura, and by the time Nijimura woke up in the morning, Seijuuro was always already in the shower.
Nijimura took this chance to study every centimetre to Akashi’s face, until a beeping noise from the kitchen stirred Seijuuro awake.
"I’m home." Nijimura stated.
Akashi rubbed his eyes as he stood up to walk to the kitchen. Nijimura followed. “I came home a little bit more early than usual, so I fried some salmon for dinner. It should be enough with a bowl of rice and some of the other side dishes in the refrigerator.” Seijuuro yawned while setting up a two plates to place the salmon, one for each person.
"Can you set up the table?" Nijimura, who was leaning on the doorway of the kitchen stepped towards the dining table and prepared chopsticks for the two of them then returned to the kitchen doorway.
Two arms slipped around Seijuuro’s waist as Nijimura hugged Seijuuro from behind. “I’m home.”
Seijuuro turned to face Shuuzou and lightly pressed his lips to the other’s.
"Welcome back."
Akashi turned to face the kitchen counter again. “We’re running low on our side dishes so we have to go shopping tomorrow. Don’t forget.”
Nijimura smiled but didn’t let go of Seijuuro. Akashi would remember anyways even if he forgot himself.
Next Week
"Ah." Aomine kind of remembered his face, but couldn’t perfectly place who he was. He was good looking though.
"You’re Aomine-kun right? From the Generation of Miracles."
"Yeah." Aomine picked up the basketball he had just dunked through the hoop. "I know you. But I don’t know you."
The other didn’t really look surprised. “Kuroko was right. You are like Kagami.”
"Oi! What’s that supposed to mean?" Miffed, Aomine started dribbling the basketball in the empty outdoor basketball court. "Wait. You know Tetsu?"
"Of course. Ahh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name’s Himuro Tatsuya. I’m your friend Ats- Murasakibara’s teammate" Himuro smiled.
"Oh. You’re that guy. Well, since you’re already here," Aomine smirked, "one on one?"
Himuro looked slightly appalled, but complied. “I guess, since it’s a Saturday anyway. I’ll just sleep at Taiga’s.”

The two lied down on the floor of the court, panting heavily. “You’re better than I thought.”
"I don’t know if I should be flattered or insulted."
"I forgot to ask. Isn’t Yosen in Akita? Why are you here?"
"Visting Taiga. I usually come once a month or so."
"Taiga? Oh, Kagami. You’re the brother or something, right."
"Yup. From America." HImuro stood up. "Well, I should start going to Taiga’s place now before he starts eating dinner. His food is the best."
"Really? Kagami?" Aomine said sceptically.
"Hard to believe, huh?"
"Well… it’s Kagami."
"Ne, Aomine-kun, are you here every week?"
Aomine also stood up and walked towards the fence to get his bag. “Yeah. Around this time.”
"Hmm. Then I might come around next week too, since it was pretty fun." Himuro started to walk slowly towards the exit.
"Do whatever you want," replied Aomine, and breezed past Himuro, avoiding Himuro’s eyes. Tatsuya knowingly smiled.
"Well then, I’ll see you next week, Aomine-kun!" Himuro waved at Aomine, who was walking in the opposite direction.
Aomine lifted his hand good bye. He couldn’t wait for next week.

Ah well, I hope you like my gift and that you have an awesome Christmas.
Communication
It was cold, even for someone so used to stay outside and play street ball no matter the type of weather, like Kagami Taiga was. It didn’t really help his mood that earlier he had actually slipped and fallen on the cruel frosty ground just as he was about to jump and dunk. And, as it has always been in Japanese public transportation history, the inside of his train was just one big mess consisting of people. How many where there even, one-hundred, no, probably something a lot closer to 5000.
The ace of Seirin just stood there, silently but impatiently enduring all the body parts awkwardly pushing him in various places of his tall body.
But then, next station, someone stood up. He marched to the now empty seat, meanwhile glaring at anyone who even dared to look at his new throne.
Taiga sat down, grinning victoriously - a grin that soon vanished when he felt that something was very wrong.
»Please don’t sit on me, Kagami-kun«, a voice behind him said in an all too familiar calm voice »You’re very heavy.«
Sputtering unarticulated things with a flabbergasted expression he would have found hilarious on every other face than his own, he jumped to his feet, startling a few people standing near and accidentally backing into someone that was now sent flying backwards. He had the mind to apologize profusely, not even managing to catch a glimpse of his victims face before he turned around to the Phantom Sixth Player watching him with a mixture of fascinated nonchalance.
»You really are clumsy.«
This time, he had gathered himself enough to answer loudly.
»Kuroko! That was my seat!«
»Well, it’s mine now.« The boy tilted his head to the side, light blue hair still sticking everywhere like some kind of rebellious style, but he couldn’t even complain, his own didn’t look much better. »I could let you sit on my lap, but you would probably crush me under the weight of all your Maji burgers.«
»I wouldn’t want to sit on your puny little lap anyways«, the taller one huffed, before looking to the side and sighing. Well, no use now.
Silence spread between them that he himself found awkward, but of course the other didn’t seem to notice or care.
»So…« Maybe it was American of him to want to talk and not just sit out the silence and when the sky blue eyes rested on him questioningly, he resisted a cough. He hadn’t thought that far ahead. To begin with, the only real thing they had in common was basketball, also visiting Maji Burgers but that didn’t really count.
What did people even talk about, the weather? No, that didn’t sound right, too clichéd and nobody even cared about talking about the weather, unless it was to complain or there was a giant hurricane going about.
Which brought him to his second subject: Current events.
Taiga cleared his throat, before he grinned at the other boy.
»So, are you already excited for Christmas?«
»Not really.«
Red eyes stared and blue eyes stared right back.
Either Kuroko just couldn’t read the atmosphere or he just didn’t care.
Needless to say they talked about the Winter Cup after that.
He wasn’t really sure what they were doing, walking around the city on Christmas Eve together for no real reason other than wanting to get a change of pace on this day that wasn’t even a national holiday here, maybe get something to eat and play street ball.
At least that was his reason, he hadn’t really asked what Kuroko was doing here, but it seemed to be something similar or else they wouldn’t stick together.
They didn’t even talk much, for the same reason as before: The only thing they really talked about was basketball, but this time it wasn’t an awkward silence.
Also, Taiga was currently occupied even if it didn’t look like it.
The face that many often found intimidating showed a frown and his eyes looked around confused, because the only kind of people around was couples, a lot of them to be exact. They were all acting lovey-dovey, as if it was Valentine’s Day and not Christmas Eve.
It was seriously distracting and they themselves seemed out of place.
Maybe the other one knew what was going on; at least it gave them something to talk about.
»Hey, Kuroko… Is there some sort of event going on?« His voice sounded weirded out and his gaze still wandered about, they didn’t really stop on anyone as they were trying to find someone that wasn’t… well, a couple.
»All these couples…« He gesticulated a bit with his hands, trying to find the right words. »What are they doing?«
Kuroko looked up at him. »What do you think? It’s Christmas Eve.«
That didn’t really answer anything and he seemed to understand, the look he gave him was almost lenient.
»It’s a couple’s day«, he explained. »I guess a returnee wouldn’t know… But weren’t you already here in middle school?«
»I was occupied… Also, why would a student of the middle school just walk around alone on Christmas Eve?«
Kuroko’s face was blank and he turned his gaze forward, still walking beside him without any sort of plan.
»And someone in high school alone outside in Christmas Eve is that much better«
He disagreed, but didn’t really say anything.
They were playing basketball.
That itself was kind of interesting, because they were only two persons and Kuroko still didn’t really stand a chance against him, trying to get the ball Taiga brought with him in a way that made him seem like he wasn’t even trying even though he was.
It was still fun and even though they weren’t evenly matched, he wasn’t angry or pissed off, like the first time they did this together in what felt like ages ago, when they weren’t even light and shadow.
It wasn’t as fulfilling as playing against a really strong opponent in a tournament, there just wasn’t the same determination or resoluteness, that didn’t have the meaning of ‘fun’ in that sense but just carried some type of addictive rush that lured him in to play more, to play better, to push himself, this here was just a friendly game and that was alright.
Because basketball didn’t always need to be some kind of battle on the court, an artwork made of teamwork, like Seirin was. It was flexible, could just be a means to pass time between friends.
And to Kuroko Tetsuya and Kagami Taiga who didn’t have that much in common, it was a way to communicate, to talk without using words, just glances, running and sharing the ball.
Dribbling, a hand trying to steal away the ball and throw it.
»So, is there anything you would want for Christmas?«
Two light blue eyes that normally said nothing and now seemed content, a calm voice answering.
»There’s nothing.«
Taiga’s grin and a pass to Kuroko, it hadn’t made sense to play against each other in the first place, they could play as a team even if they didn’t have an opponent.
Maybe someone else would have questioned Kuroko’s answer, but he understood, he was the one who always caught his passes after all. He knew him very well, even if Aomine’s silent communication with the Phantom Sixth Man was a lot better, Taiga still understood.
Because to Kuroko, Kuroko who strolled around searching for a light and didn’t really thought he would find one again, who almost gave like basketball, Taiga was like a dream come true, an awakening from a frightening nightmare and Seirin was his home.
He almost felt… giddy, like saying something stupid, but he didn’t need to, he just jumped and dunked the ball into the net, the other one watching him with a small smile.
Really, now that he thought about it, it wasn’t that bad that they didn’t have anything to talk about besides basketball, this was more than enough.

It was a plenty stressful time for Kise Ryouta— hell it could have been argued that it was a plenty stressful time for everyone who had the misfortune of being considered a college student. Yes, finals weeks was upon them and him, like so many others found themselves bordering on the edge of insanity with every new term to be crammed into a dark corner of the brain. Such was the plight of the college student during this week and unfortunately, not even the blond was spared.
Despite the many tests before and the many reminders before, he couldn’t help trudging his way over to the local Starbucks to fuel up for his next all-nighter. It wasn’t that he necessarily enjoyed the drinks there, it was simply due to the fact that there was no other place on campus that would still be open at this late hour. The hours were made to cater for the student’s needs after all— most of the employees there were students anyway so something like that was expected.
Kise fought back a yawn as he tugged the door open, nose wrinkling slightly at the wave of coffee aroma that forever lingered in the shop. There seemed to be a few familiar faces on duty tonight, he thought to himself as he waved a short greeting to Kuroko, the smaller blue haired male granting a short wave back in return. The line was always annoyingly long but it wasn’t like he had anywhere else to go. With a dry chuckle, the blond stepped into the back of the line and waited, mind already wandering to his usual order as the people slowly inched past.
"Hello, I assume that you will be wanting your usual order then?" Kise blinked, it was kind of rare to see Kuroko working the registers— the fact that he was hard to detect might have been a bad match. Seeing his confusion, the smaller male offered a small smile. "We have a new trainee today, the manager thought it best if I were to handle the registers while he gets his feet wet." Well that seemed to make sense and Kise gave a shrug, not even bothering to take a look over and chirping out his usual of a grande Americano, with soy.
It wasn’t that long before his name was called and the blond took steps over to the counter to receive his beverage, frowning when instead of his normal medium sized cup, a small cup was given to him. Waiting until the crowd thinned out just a little, Kise stepped back over to the counter to grab the attention of the closest barista.
"Excuse me, this isn’t what I ordered." He continued to tap on the surface, frown spreading over his face as he placed the cup down. It wasn’t like he had time for this, those notes weren’t meant to sit and collect dust on his desk—
"Sure it is." A voice drawled out, smooth enough for Kise to snap out of whatever slight rage he had been in. It was a new voice and a new face apparently; so that was who the new trainee was. Had it been one of the other baristas, Kise might have been able to muster up more anger but everything about this guy was… stream-lined, from the male’s taller frame to the almost catlike tilt of his eyes. A tanned hand lazily pressed down on the top of the beverage, turning it so that dark blue eyes could scan the hastily checked boxes and scribbled notes. Oh shit, right, the coffee.
"T… The order’s completely wrong—"
"Nah," The male cut in as Kise’s eyes ran over to the name plate on the his chest, reading off the name of ‘Aomine’ before returning his gaze over to Aomine’s face just in time to see those lips curl into a smug smile that was equally teasing as it was confident. "I definitely got this one right."
Now it was for Aomine’s eyes to scan over the other, grin only widening as time went by. “Tall, blonde roast, and extra sweetened.” Did his jaw drop? Maybe? Just a bit—
"Number’s on the cup holder, if you’re interested." Was all Aomine could get out before the manager burst out from the backroom, ushering Aomine back to doing whatever he was supposed to do. Kise stood there in blankness for a moment, quickly seizing up his forgotten beverage and high tailing it out of there.
The cool air was crisp enough to give some semblance of thought back into his mind, the coffee in hand hot enough to keep his hands warm as the blond made his slow trek back to the dorms. Curiously, he turned the drink in his hands until scribbled handwriting showed itself— quickly twisting it back over to cover the number as if protecting it from any harm.
