she’s baaaaaack!

I had a dream recently that Alice came back and while it was super realistic I didn’t think it could happen.

This morning she walked through the dog door meowing for attention and went straight to her spot in the closet like nothing had happened…5 months later. Her collar and tag are still on and we’re in a bit of shock but so happy she’s alive! Apparently she had a few lives left.

After our foray into fostering last fall, I decided (with the enthusiastic encouragement of my husband, who loves cats) to do it again.

I filled out the volunteer application form on my phone while waiting in an airport and within a week and a half found myself with a litter…and then a week later with FIVE 2.5 week olds who apparently needed to be fed with a tube because their latch on the bottle was less than spectacular.

Having five newborn kittens is probably (maybe?) close to the work of having one human baby, right? Maybe not. I’ll find out in a few years. Feedings took anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, four times a day at first.

It took about a week and a half for them to become “fun” and playful, but it felt good to know that I was doing something that for them meant the world. The last week or so we’ve let them into the office and hallway and they provide lots of laughter.

While I probably won’t do another little of bottle kittens for awhile (and then probably not five at once!), the experience is still definitely rewarding.

We were scared to death for our precious girl on Tuesday, she got stuck in the top of the garage door and we didn’t hear her. 😿 (Pro tip, don’t Google this unless you want to be slightly traumatized.)   “The world is just as scary as I thought it was, but Your love makes me braver still.” -JJ Heller – Real Talk: The last several months have been crazy hard as my family has shifted and splintered into something we never could have predicted, leaving us grappling with the pieces left behind. While it has made the remnant stronger, we are still hurting, and grief is a long and winding process. – On a particularly emotional day last week, this song spoke life and comfort and reminded me once again that God is with us and promises to work all things together for good. – If you’re also facing hard situations, as goodness knows everyone is, I encourage you to give “Braver Still” a listen. It can’t fix what is broken, but can be a balm for a hurting heart. Healing is coming, friends.
