The cops very clearly planted evidence on him because they had to make an arrest because all eyes were on them and whoever actually did the deed was making them look stupid.

Why would the real killer hero have kept the weapon on his person and traveled two states over while carrying it and a manifesto in his bag, conveniently turning the crime into a federal matter? The same guy whose bag they found in a park, filled with monopoly money? Why did the police turn off their bodycams, take Luigi's stuff, drive a block away, turn their bodycams back on, go back into the restaurant, and then arrest him?

From the moment of his arrest, even left-of-center media has been presuming his guilt without examining anything (e.g. calling him "the killer" instead of "alleged" or "accused") and then when I say he didn't do it, the nearest person chimes in with some quip that tells me they think he did do it but should go free anyway. Don't get me wrong, I would have the same attitude if he had done it. But he didn't. It makes me feel like the only sane person in the world, even among my staunchly leftist friends.

I read a fic that summarized itself as "A series of vignettes where Shane reminds everyone that he is ALSO the man in the relationship."

I thought the whole concept was a bit besides the point because quite frankly, the fictional characters in the fictional universe are not the ones who need reminding that Shane is big tough jock.

It's the fanfic writers who need that reminder.

I think a lot of people forget that, as members of the viewing audience, we are privy to a lot of intimate, vulnerable, private moments that none of the other characters in the show/book get to see, and our conception of the characters is informed by those private moments.

Meanwhile, all the other characters see is the impenetrable "hockey robot" or "role model" persona Shane wears in public. Aside from Rose and Ilya, none of the other characters really have any inkling of Shane's bedroom preferences. None of them get to see him at his most vulnerable. Svetlana even teases Ilya in Episode 4 about Shane being the more dominant one on the ice, telling Ilya point blank that he's not man enough to be the center when he's playing on The Shane Hollander™'s line, and he'll have to settle for being Shane's wing.

The people in the real world are the ones assuming Shane must be "the girl" in the relationship. The people in the real world are the ones projecting their perceptions onto the fictional characters in the fictional universe.
