“They’ll never find the body” is a boring threat. Threaten that they’ll never stop finding the body
They’ll be recovering pieces of you for at least three months. You will be alive for at least two of them.
That’s terrifying

I hate the stereotype attached to black fathers so here’s a little Black Fathers Appreciation Thread 💙💙💙
Part 1
#BlackFathersMatter
I was stopped by a cop hiding in a dark corner of the predominantly white neighborhood my dad just HAD to live in, bc I did a California roll. I was so confused. Im from Texas idk what that is. He explained and I was confused bc I def stopped and looked around. He proceeded to ask if the BMW I was driving was mine...then let me go. If you black in a "nice" car it's questionable asf. Theyll ask where you work too bc how can you afford "nice things". I hate it here.
My car was in the shop getting a new motor installed. My mother had three cars at the time and she let me drive her old Toyota until my car got fixed. I Got pulled over at 3 am by Lakewood Police. I had just sobered up from a night of drinking and was on my way home from my homeboy’s house. The officer looked like Barney Fife from Andy Griffith and said “why are you driving so slow”. I said “Yeah Lakewood Police always pulls people over for speeding” He said “You could have driven the speed limit, you were 5 miles under the speed limit” 🙄 I was like yeah whatever! Anyhow I had a bottle of Hennessey on the back seat when it should have been in the trunk. So he asks for my license and registration. I told him it was my mother’s car and I needed to call her to ask her where it was. He said, “Do you really think she will answer at this time of morning!” I had to take a deep breath because he was trying me. I said, “ what mother wouldn’t answer the phone for her son calling at 3 am” Like black people just don’t fucking care about their kids. I said, “I’m 27 but I’m still her son.” I called her and she answered. I told her I had been pulled over for driving under the speed limit and couldn’t find the registration. She told me where to locate it and I told her I would call her back. Sooooo, everything checked out and he said “you shouldn’t have that be bottle on the seat, have you been drinking” I said “yeah, I took my last drink around 11pm. I waited to sober up before I drove home.” He then asked me to take an open field sobriety test. I was fine with that so he has me following his ink pen with my eyes and two white guys pull up saying “Mr. Officer, we don’t know why you are wasting your time with him. This drunk guy just crashed his car into a ditch! Follow us!” Old Barney Fife told me I was free to go and they all sped the fuck off. I called my mother to tell her I was okay. I still get pissed off every time I think about it. So my mood right now is pissed!!!!
Love it
i learned about Marion Stokes, a Philadelphia woman who began taping whatever was on television in 1979 and didn’t stop until her death in 2012.. The 71,000 VHS and Betamax tapes she made are the most complete collection preserving this era of TV. They are being digitized by the Internet Archive. (x)
i feel like this is selling her a bit short tbh. It’s not like she was a random woman who decided to tape ‘whatever’ was on television. She was a civil rights activist and archivist, who was extremely concerned about preserving history. She believed that, by taping television, she would be preserving history EXACTLY as it was perceived at the time; she didn’t want the detail in the news to disappear with time. And she was RIGHT.
Like I said, she didn’t just tape ‘whatever’ was on television. It was extremely targeted towards news stations. There were 8 VCRs running at all times in her home. Her life—-and her family’s lives—-were centered around 6 hour blocks, since that was the amount of time that a tape would record for. Her collections were also extremely organized.
The Marion Stokes Movies and Video Collection may be found on the Internet Archive here.
Wikipedia’s article on Marion Stokes may be found here.
A documentary of her life, Recorder: the Marion Stokes Project, was released in 2019, and seems to have good reviews, though I have not yet seen it.
From archive.org (Internet Archive) - The Marion Stokes Papers contain documents related to the life and activism of Marion Stokes (1929-2012), civil rights activist, feminist, and news archivist. Stokes’ social activist career began in the 1950s, and encompassed many areas of left politics during a particularly transformative time in America. Her groundbreaking television show (co-produced with her husband John S Stokes Jr), Input, addressed many pressing issues, and much of it remains relevant today. Additionally, Stokes amassed a huge archive of videotaped television news, which is slowly being made available through the work of the Internet Archive.
Every time I am reminded about this archive I think about how cool it is, and how useful it is for so many purposes. For example, a lot of period pieces end up as caricatures of the eras they portray based on a telephone game through history books and fictional works, but this gives you thousands of hours of examples of what media from the time looked like, how people dressed, how events might have been perceived by the general public, etc.
