I love the feeling I get when I'm done with a big project. This wouldn't be true if I did anything in a more methodical, rational way, but it's like, I've been working really hard for days on end and I'm a little malnourished and dirty and cold and I have that weird altered consciousness of just focusing completely on one esoteric thing for days and nights, and then just when I think I'm going to lose my mind, I did it, I'm done. Then I have that feeling like someone's been holding my head under water but now I can relax, and have a treat or a drink or a smoke, and I can have an actual hot fresh meal, and I know I'm going to be doing gloriously nothing for a few hours and I'm probably gonna sleep well. And I have the feeling of having done something good for myself. I don't know, I really believe that "At least you tried" is a way over-applied saying that is often inappropriate, but I also think that trying your hardest at something -- anything, really -- at least once in a while is kind of essential if you want to improve as a person.
