Ночь на «Гоинг Мерри» была тихой, что случалось непростительно редко. Вахта подходила к концу, и Санджи, стоя на камбузе с очередной сигаретой, чувствовал, как по венам разливается не столько никотин, сколько застарелая, ноющая тоска. Команда была его семьей, но мужское сердце, – сердце безнадежного романтика, – требовало женской ласки. Нами-сан была прекрасна, но строга; Робин-чан – загадочна, но держала дистанцию.
Его взгляд упал на старую газету, которую он прихватил в последнем порту, завернув в неё провиант. На последней полосе, среди объявлений о продаже подержанных якорей и сомнительных карт, на единственной не испачканной пятнами странице, находился рекламный баннер. На нём красовалась соблазнительная брюнетка с томным взглядом, а завлекающая подпись гласила: «Тоскуешь в море? Прекрасная Роза ждет твоего звонка. Шёпот рая всего в одном номере...»
Быстрая проверка коридора – никого. Зоро дрых в вороньем гнезде, Чоппер и Усопп заснули на палубе за какой-то настолкой, пока Луффи давно видел десятый сон. Да, это был шанс. Немного невинного флирта, пусть и платного, Санджи заслужил.
Он прокрался в мужскую каюту, плотно прикрыв дверь. Дрожащими от волнения и предвкушения пальцами он достал свой личный маленький Ден-Ден Муши, купленный специально для подобных личных случаев. Он торопливо набрал номер, указанный в объявлении, в полумраке каюты его палец соскользнул, едва не промахнувшись по двум последним цифрам.
Пуру-пуру-пуру... Пуру-пуру-пуру...
Гудки казались оглушительно громкими в тишине ожидания. Санджи невольно вздрогнул, когда наконец раздался щелчок.
Настроение в кабинете Крокодайла этой ночью было мрачным. Бывший шичибукай сидел за столом, по уши погруженный в бумаги. Отчеты были неутешительными: поставки задерживались, один из его агентов, кажется, снова присвоил себе большую партию золота, а цены на оружие в Новом Мире взлетели до неприличия. Нет, по правде, он был в ярости. Явно не лучший момент для того чтобы его личный, секретный Ден-Ден Муши, который он использовал только для особо важных и конфиденциальных переговоров, подал голос.
Пуру-пуру-пуру... Пуру-пуру-пуру...
— Да?
Голос на том конце провода заставил Санджи замереть в изумлении. Он ожидал чего угодно: игривого девичьего хихиканья, томного «алло-о-о», приторно-сладкого приветствия, но никак не этого. Голос был низким, грубоватым, прокуренным. В нём чувствовалась усталость, раздражение и неоспоримая, абсолютная власть.
Ну, конечно, у ангелочка может быть и хрипотца, это даже придает шарма. Да и связь здесь не очень, наверняка это искажение. Санджи быстро успокоил себя этими мыслями и продолжил:
— Э-э, добрый вечер, очаровательная Роза, — начал он, стараясь вложить в голос всю свою галантность и страсть. — Ваш образ, мелькнувший в газете, зажег в моем сердце огонь, который не погасить в одиночестве. Позвольте мне, скромному повару, насладиться звуком вашего голоса, как изысканным вином. Вы, наверное, только что проснулись? Ваш голос такой низкий. Очень… э-э-э, соблазнительный.
Крокодайл замер и уставился на трубку. Он бы удивился меньше, если бы ему только что пригрозили расправой. Какой-то идиот-незнакомец ошибся номером. Причем, невероятно сильно. Какая-то девица рекламируется на его частоте?
Ему бы стоило немедленно сбросить. Затем найти того, кто выдал эту частоту какой-то шлюхе, и превратить его в пыль. Но... он был таким уставшим и раздраженным, что даже не было желания. И этот идиот платит. Возможно, пять минут чистого, незамутненного унижения незнакомца – именно то, что нужно для поднятия настроения.
Для Санджи на том конце провода воцарилась тишина, слишком долгая, тяжелая, давящая. Он уже приготовился услышать грубый отказ, замерев с пальцем у кнопки сброса звонка, но вместо этого вновь раздался тот же низкий голос. Однако он изменился. Раздражение ушло, сменившись чем-то вкрадчивым, почти... насмешливым.
— "Роза", да. Ты нашел её. Извини, дорогой. Просто… долгий день. Слишком много суеты вокруг. Так что ты хотел? У тебя есть пять минут, чтобы... сделать меня счастливой.
Санджи быстро расслабился. “Суета”, “долгий день” — вот почему голос такой хриплый и низкий. Да и помехи эти… Прекрасно. Он был готов подыграть.
— Не извиняйтесь, мадемуазель, – прошептал Санджи. – Я готов развеять вашу скуку. Я совсем одинок этой ночью. Но увидев ваше фото, я…
Фото… Крокодайл прищурился. Он не знал, какое фото там было, но это не имело значения.
— Так ты одинокий мужчина? — Крокодайл намеренно сделал голос томным, чуть выше своего обычного, добавив лёгкой, дразнящей хрипотцы. — Мне нравится это начало. Расскажи мне больше о своих желаниях.
Санджи, обманутый искусной игрой, ощутил прилив жара. Он привалился к столешнице, выпуская струйку дыма.
— Я в море. Очень одинок. И мне так не хватает... женской ласки, – прошептал он. – Я хочу, чтобы вы сказали мне, какой я желанный. Хочу, чтобы вы меня похвалили. Мои руки сильные, и они могут приготовить любое блюдо, но сейчас я хочу, чтобы они прикоснулись к чему-то... прекрасному.
Поварские руки? Кулинарный фетиш? Это что, новая фишка у молодёжи? И этот идиот хочет, чтобы он, Сэр Крокодайл, его похвалил? Если бы он знал, кто это, он бы превратил его корабль вместе с ним в горку песка. Но... “много суеты вокруг”, да?
– Твои руки... – Крокодайл заставил голос звучать задумчиво. – Я представляю их. Наверное, они сильные. Мне кажется, ты много чего можешь ими делать, не только готовить.
Санджи почувствовал, как жар приливает к лицу. Ах, эта Роза!
— О, да! Вы угадали! – выдохнул он. – Мои ноги тоже сильные! Я...
Ноги? Крокодайл скептически хмыкнул. Он невольно представил какого-то грузного мужчину, пытающегося себя продать.
– Забудь о ногах, — перебил он. — Мы говорим о руках. Ты хочешь, чтобы я сказала тебе, какой ты желанный? Ладно. Ты желанный. Твои руки, дорогой, могут заставить Розу цвести. Доволен?
Санджи тихо застонал от удовольствия.
– Больше, чем доволен! А теперь скажите мне, мадемуазель. Чего вы хотите от меня? Ваш властный голос заставляет желать покориться вам!
Крокодайл на мгновение задумался. Чего он хочет? Денег хочет. Власти. Но это в общем, а конкретно сейчас...
– Я хочу… – пророкотал он, тон его ожесточился. – Я хочу, чтобы ты признал свою слабость. Ты одинок, слаб, и позорно ищешь утешения в трубке. Ты жалок. Признай это. Это возбуждает.
“Вот оно. Унижение. Наконец-то что-то полезное. Почему эти платные девочки не используют это в своих прайс-листах? Хоть какое-то удовольствие и для них.”
Санджи, однако, охотно воспринял это как часть ролевой игры. К вспыхнувшему стыду добавилось странное, липкое удовольствие.
– Мадемуазель, я у ваших ног… – прохрипел он. – И только вы можете спасти мою жалкую душу в этом бескрайнем море. Вы не просто Роза, вы — настоящий оазис, моя принцесса!
Крокодайл моргнул. Чем больше он слушал незнакомца на проводе, тем больше он кого-то ему напоминал. Голос, тембр, произношение…Слово “принцесса” вызывало у него не самые приятные ассоциации после Алабасты... Алабаста. Мозг Крокодайла заработал. Мысль назойливо завертелась в его голове. Что-то такое уже было, что-то до боли знакомое. Почему этот голос на проводе так похож на...
Вдруг его осенило.
Он вспомнил того вертлявого блондина, который вечно пинался,обзывался и порушил все его планы в Алабасте. Повар «Соломенной Шляпы». Мистер – мать его, – Принц.
Судьба иногда подкидывала восхитительно абсурдные подарки.
Крокодайл медленно вынул сигару изо рта. На его лице появилась ухмылка, полная холодной, садистской радости. Он узнал его по той же наглости, с которой этот идиот говорил с ним по Ден-Ден Муши, когда впервые представился “Мистером Принцем”.
Голос Крокодайла изменился вновь. Усталое напряжение ушло, сменившись чем-то вкрадчивым, ленивым и полным ядовитой иронии, которую Санджи, поглощенный своими фантазиями, принял за томность.
– В бескрайнем море... – протянул Крокодайл. Он прикрыл глаза, представляя этого дурака, мечущегося в тесной каюте. – Бедный мальчик. Тебе, должно быть, холодно.
Крокодайл сам не заметил, как вошёл во вкус. Манипулировать этим щенком, даже не видя его и используя лишь голос, было увлекательно.
– Не холодно, скорее… жарко, – отрывисто прошептал Санджи, уже расстегивая верхнюю пуговицу рубашки. – Я все время думаю о том, как было бы хорошо прикоснуться к кому-то…
Крокодайл провёл пальцами, которыми зажимал сигару, по ободу своего бокала с виски.
– И кого ты хочешь коснуться, малыш? Расскажи мне.
– Я... я представляю вас, мадемуазель, – выдохнул Санджи, сминая кусочек газеты, рассматривая баннер с фотографией. – Ваши темные волосы, ваши губы... Я бы...
– Тише, – оборвал его Крокодайл. – Не торопись. Будь послушным мальчиком.
Санджи сглотнул.
– Ох, да, мадемуазель… Я слушаюсь. Что вы прикажете мне сделать?
– М-м... – Крокодайл сделал вид, что обдумывает это. Он затянулся сигарой, и дым лениво пополз к потолку. Его собственный голос стал ниже, почти гипнотическим. Он сам не ожидал, что этот фарс доставит ему такое удовлетворение. Чувствовать, как на том конце провода враг теряет контроль, как его дыхание становится рваным... в этом была своя, темная прелесть.
– Закрой глаза. Представь, что я рядом, что я касаюсь тебя.
Санджи подчинился, его рука под столом уже расстегнула пряжку ремня, а пальцы скользнули под пояс брюк и белья. Этот низкий, хриплый голос...его доминантность вызывала мурашки.
Фантазия Санджи рисовала роковую женщину, статную, властную, которая сидела перед ним на столе. Ее рука взяла его за подбородок, как щенка, а он и рад, внимательно слушая ее, ожидая команды.
– Да… – выдохнул Санджи.
– Хороший мальчик... – голос Крокодайла стал жестче, приобретая знакомые стальные нотки, которые Санджи в своем тумане принял за страсть. Крокодайлу это нравилось. Чертовски нравилось. Власть была самым сильным афродизиаком. Он закрыл глаза, позволяя игре зайти дальше. Ему, как гроссмейстеру, нравилось вести эту партию.
— И вот, ты передо мной на коленях. И ты можешь прикоснуться… с чего бы ты начал?
Санджи прикусил губу, когда услышал похвалу, а в голове пробежали разные образы того, что ему бы хотелось сделать с этой прекрасной дамой. Сердце колотилось как сумасшедшее, румянец на щеках и ушах стал сильнее. Это было даже лучше, чем он ожидал.
– С ваших колен, мадемуазель. — почти выдохнул Санджи, полностью погрузившись в фантазии. Его рука непроизвольно сжала трубку, пока вторая была занята его телом. — Я бы целовал их медленно, нежно…Потом… потом я бы поднимался выше. К вашим бедрам.. Я слышал, у девушек там особенно нежная и мягкая кожа.
Крокодайл тихо рассмеялся, беззвучно, лишь для себя. Он откинул голову на спинку кресла, представляя, как бы выглядел сейчас этот дурачок.
– А что бы ты делал дальше, мой послушный мальчик? — спросил он, и в его голосе появилась нотка настоящего, неподдельного любопытства, смешанного с садистским предвкушением.
– Я бы… я бы показал, что у настоящего повара хороши не только руки… — голос Санджи дрогнул от нахлынувших чувств. — Я бы доказал, что настоящее мастерство заключается в умении владеть своим языком, изучать, разбирать и запоминать вкус… Я бы вкушал вас, моя богиня…
Слова Санджи, полные искреннего, хоть и направленного в пустоту, желания, странным образом задели какую-то струну в самом Крокодайле. В этой роли, в этой иллюзии, была своя прелесть. Власть над другим человеком, доведенным до такого уязвимого состояния, сводила с ума. Крокодайл аккуратно отложил трубку Ден-Ден Муши и медленно провёл ладонью по своему животу, ощущая под тканью костюма напряжение, которое начало нарастать и в нём самом. Игра становилась всё более пикантной и надо было прекращать, пока не зашло все слишком далеко.
– Ты такой пылкий… — Крокодайл намеренно позволил голосу сорваться на низкий, почти натуральный для него шёпот. — А теперь представь, что ты ощущаешь песок на своем языке.
– Песок? – растерянно уточнил Санджи. Увлеченный своими фантазиями, он не придал большого значения переменам в голосе, послушно продолжив держать глаза закрытыми. «Роза» как-никак, это её образ, может метафора сада?
– Да. Он везде. Он обжигает. Ты чувствуешь жажду. Невыносимую... Ты так отчаянно хочешь пить. Ты иссыхаешь… – Крокодайл говорил медленно, вкладывая в каждое слово свой ледяной авторитет. Он слышал, как на том конце провода кок начал тяжело, прерывисто дышать. Он доводил его. Медленно, как удав, сжимая хватку.
– Да... жажда... – пробормотал Санджи, его рука сжала сильнее его твердую плоть, ускорилась. – Я... так хочу...
– Ты хочешь, чтобы песок поглотил тебя? – голос Крокодайла стал тихим шепотом, но в нем слышался смех, выдаваемый за вздохи наслаждения.
– Да... Роза, я... я почти…
— Уже почти готов кончить от голоса того, кто чуть не убил твоего капитана и твою принцессу, Мистер Принц? – внезапно перебил его Крокодайл. Голос изменился. Вся томность, вся вкрадчивость исчезли. Он стал таким, каким Санджи его помнил: грубым, ледяным, полным абсолютного презрения и ядовитого сарказма.
Но именно в этот самый момент, в момент осознания пришла и кульминация, которую Санджи не успел удержать. Он замер. Туман в его голове мгновенно рассеялся, сменившись ледяным ужасом. Санджи раскрытыми глазами смотрел на свою испачканную руку, пока второй сжимал Ден-Ден Муши, не веря в произошедшее. Лёгкий румянец страсти на его щеках сменился мертвенной бледностью. Он узнал этот голос.
На том конце провода Крокодайл залился низким, довольным смехом. Он наслаждался каждой секундой этой паузы, каждой долей ужаса и унижения, которые сейчас переживал Санджи.
– Насладился нашим разговором, Мистер Принц? Должен признаться, твои фантазии… весьма живописны. Я получил массу удовольствия. И судя по всему… ты тоже. – Крокодайл слышал, как по ту сторону звонка раздался звук, похожий на то, как человек пытается вдохнуть, но не может.
Санджи отшатнулся от улитки, как от раскаленного железа. Его лицо исказилось в гримасе чистой ненависти, стыда и ярости.
– Ты… ты ублюдок!
– Тише, Принц. Ты сам мне позвонил, — с наслаждением протянул Крокодайл, выпуская сигарный дым. — Не стоит портить такой восхитительный финал истерикой. Сладких снов. Надеюсь, ты запомнишь этот звонок надолго, – он положил трубку, отхлебнул виски и снова тихо рассмеялся, глядя в потолок. Эта маленькая забава со звонком окупила себя с лихвой.
А на “Гоинг Мерри” Санджи стоял, вцепившись пальцами в столешницу, с горящими от стыда щеками и дико бьющимся сердцем. Вечер, который должен был стать приятным расслаблением, превратился в кошмар, который будет преследовать его еще очень долго. Он с отвращением посмотрел на газету, затем смял ее и швырнул в стену со всей силы, проклиная день, когда решил довериться рекламе.

After Luffy, Oda has a favorite Straw Hat and a shocking amount of people tend to think it's Zoro. I think they're being clouded by the fact that Zoro is Toei's favorite.
But by and large, Oda's favorite Straw Hat is Sanji.
After Luffy, he is the Straw Hat with the most amount of arcs where he is the focus. His arcs have a trend of having the rest of the crew be absent from the climax so there is a moment reserved for Luffy and Sanji alone because Luffy is the only one who Sanji can truly be vulnerable with. They also have a significant amount of parallels from Shanks and Zeff both sacrificing a limb for them, having a (bio) father that is a significant world leader, their love to eat/loves to cook dynamic, etc. Sanji was the first between him and Zoro to be declared as Luffy's wing.
Of course, it would be remiss to neglect mentioning how long Oda has been begging for a Shokugeki no Sanji anime. It would also be remiss to neglect mentioning that Sanji is, to this date, the only Straw Hat Luffy has explicitly told he needs to become Pirate King.
Sanji had a three year saga dedicated to him being a prince and learning about his family.
We had to learn Zoro is lost Wano nobility in an SBS and didn't even see him visit Ryuma's grave in Wano despite the buildup dating back to Thriller Bark. And yes, I'm still mad his parents were drawn as silhouettes when even Kid and Killer's childhood friend Victoria has been drawn. In the narrative, Zoro tends to only be used for fighting and aura farming and doesn't tend to get much else beyond that which is kinda sad when he was the first to join the crew.
Zoro is a simple character, not a bad one.
I like him having a simple backstory, I like him having simple motivations and I especially like him not finding out he is the closest thing to an heir the Shimotsuki Clan has with Kuina being dead and all because Zoro would not have cared about that. (To be honest, considering Wano's traditional patriarchal values, Kuina might not have even been considered due to being a girl.) But I still think, that if you're going to have the right wing of the future King of the Pirates also be nobility that should be confirmed in the story not a Q&A (even if through, someone in Wano going "omg guys, that guy was actually a descendant of Ryuma and Ushimaru. Damn it, the Straw Hats have already left though so we couldn't tell him").
So that got me thinking that even if it isn't intentional, Oda tends to channel his favoritism through Luffy.
Luffy tends to praise Sanji the most out of his crewmates even going as far as telling Dorry back in Little Garden if he had insulted Sanji's cooking, he would've beat his ass. Luffy's canonically become more possessive of Sanji since the events of WCI (ex. getting defensive when Bonney complimented Sanji to him out of nowhere when prior to WCI, Luffy would've agreed ecstatically with her praise). You can honestly say the same for Sanji, a la his behavior with Jinbei during the early parts of the Onigashima raid.
Luffy also tends to be blinded by things he otherwise would've noticed when it involves Sanji.
For example, back in Skypiea he was able to tell immediately that something was off with Conis after she sold them out to Enel and the White Berets. He noticed she'd been trembling the entire time despite choosing not to comment on it. He usually is able to tell immediately when he is being lied to. So, if anything, he should've been able to tell that Pudding was lying through her teeth the moment they met. But she complimented Sanji and he immediately started agreeing with her. Judge insults Sanji and everyone but Luffy is able to tell that Sanji is being insulted because for Luffy he can't fathom anyone hating Sanji.
Luffy and Zoro have a bond that's really special. Zoro chose Luffy as his captain as much as Luffy chose him as his swordsman but then I think about how...
Luffy derailed a coup 20 years in the making for Sanji and was fully prepared to abandon his promise to help Wano for Sanji. I don't think enough people think about how Monkey D. "Always keeps his promises" Luffy was about to break a promise for the first time in his life with extreme intention.
He was on a deadline, he explicitly told the Wano alliance he would be there to help them. Luffy never bluffs, he would've waited for Sanji in that spot for years.
He was about to doom an entire country for one cook.
He even tells Reiju he would head straight to the East Blue to save Zeff it's what he needed to bring Sanji back to him, derailing not only his dream at large but the dreams of the other Straw Hats. It's also up in the air if that would mean leaving directly from WCI to the East Blue leaving the rest of the crew stranded in Wano or stopping by Wano to get the rest of the Straw Hats and leaving immediately depending on the severity of the situation as it would've been a race against time to save Zeff's life.
He nearly tore off his arms twice in the same arc for Sanji and even told Nami to do it as well. Then after being freed by Jinbei, he proceded to run around Big Mom's castle screaming Sanji's name and beating up everyone in sight, especially though who insulted Sanji going as far as saying "Don't talk bad about Sanji!"
In both the Baratie and WCI arcs, there is a large focus on a family member Sanji respects (Zeff and Reiju) essentially giving Luffy their blessing to take Sanji away with him.
And crazy sidebar, what about that time Reiju sucked the life points out of Luffy and he immediately thought it was Sanji???
And partially related side bar, the translation here is incorrect. What Luffy says is 「サンジを返せよ！アイツは俺の仲間だ！」 which would be more accurately translated as "Give me Sanji back! He's my nakama!" followed by his statement of taking him back by any cost.
It's very interesting and sentimental and I think a lot of the fandom tend to overlook the bond Luffy and Sanji have with each other.
Thinking about all that, I wonder how if I was in Zoro's shoes as dedicated as I am to Luffy, how would I feel? Like, we get a glimpse of that during Zou when Zoro gets jealous when Luffy tells Dogstorm and Cat Viper Sanji is worth 1000 people. Zoro just has quiet, stalwart yearner energy and it makes me ill in the best way possible.
TLDR: I had a lot of thoughts about the Monster Trio and their Wings dynamic with their Captain and it turned into this. Also, Oda's favorite is Sanji, Toei's favorite is Zoro.
You know, in English we usually just call them the Straw Hat Pirates — but it doesn’t quite mean the same thing!
In Japanese, they’re called “麦わらの一味” (Mugiwara no Ichimi).
Unlike “the Red Hair Pirates” or “the Heart Pirates”, they never actually call themselves “the Straw Hat Pirates”, nor are they referred to that way by others.
It’s unclear why Oda-sensei made that distinction, but it’s probably because he wanted to emphasize that the Straw Hats aren’t just another pirate crew ―they’re a different kind of group altogether.
The word “Ichimi” means companions who share the same goal and journey together through adventure. In English, it’s closer to a band than a crew I guess.
And honestly, the Straw Hats give off that feeling —more than any other “pirate crew,” you can sense their unshakable will to make their captain the king.
By the end of the story, I can’t help but wonder…
