KINNPORSCHE (2022) | Ep. 12
Pick your favorite BTS songs to share with the world.
netflix is about to lose so many subscribers. like they think blocking password sharing is the answer when in reality they're almost exclusively hurting pissed off families with split living situations & people who don't have constant access to wifi. these people and the people they shared their pw with are not going to be like "aw darn well better make another account for my son in college and pay double now :)" they're gonna say "well this fucking sucks and isn't worth the money anymore" and CANCEL Netflix ahdhdjakajajdjsjakssjsj

BTS SOCIAL MEDIA SERIES → Chapter 1: Reflection of Youth (insp) // (detailed breakdown: PLEASE READ!)
someone asked me recently "what is the appeal of BL?" what do you think?
@heretherebedork @respectthepetty @yeetlegay @shortpplfedup @lutawolf @luckydragon10 @apomiles @moerusai @pharawee @poetry-protest-pornography @disaster-j @laughsalot3412 @queersouthasian @everyforkedroad @iffervescent @dancinbutterfly @godotismissingx @highpriestessofjogan @jupiterjames @colourme-feral (I don't know most of you but I've been following your blogs and I'd like to know what you think)
*flexes finger and pops neck*
The appeal of QL (Queer Love = BL & GL):
It's unapologetically queer.
The plot is secondary to the queer content. Every family member and every bodyguard in KinnPorsche is gay. Every student in The Eclipse is gay (Namo x Wat are canon in the upcoming book!). Having an arranged marriage in a country that doesn't recognize marriage equality didn't matter to Cutie Pie. Proposing to your parallel-traveling boyfriend with a bag of Lay's after telling reporters that you, a famous actor, love the fuck out of your blue boy was the expected outcome in Vice Versa.
Even if there is no kissing, it's still queer. A Tale of Thousand Stars refused to let the gays be gay until the very last episode, but somehow, they were still gaying up our screens every week with their soft touches and intense stares.
People question if shows like I Told Sunset About You, Triage, Not Me, and Manner of Death should be considered BLs since they have a genuine plot beyond "Do Gay Shit." How wild is that?! Having a plot that deals with trying to overthrow your oppressors and bring down capitalism has people questioning if a show is considered BL even though two guys were having sex in a tent and another two guys were having sex in an abandoned building while another two were constantly trying to kill each other (ToddBlack supremacy!). (I'm in neither boat. I support the gays, the girls, and the goths no matter the circumstances.)
Oh, and if a hetero walks into the plot, immediate death stares. They can't sit with us unless they are there to serve the queers in their endeavors like our favorite CEO, Pil Hyun, in To My Star. If the heteros want their own little romance, that romance better be outstanding (Manow, we see you girl in Between Us), or we will spend every second being pissed about it (Gram and Gene in Not Me).
The romance element is always present even in the worst of conditions (Eternal Yesterday and 180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us) and burying a gay is seen as highly controversial for most of the viewers (HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count). Every issue isn't because the characters are queer but there is never a doubt that the characters are queer: Bad Buddy's issue was not loving a guy but loving that one particular guy who is the sworn enemy of my family, and Semantic Error's issue was not loving a guy but loving that one particular guy who is my sworn enemy for not helping with the group project.
For a community that hasn't seen themselves represented in main stream media and when they do, it's as a comical side plot with no romance and most likely ends in death, to see ourselves not only represented but catered to is as appealing as it gets.
Even for the straight people in the fandoms, there is something here for them that is lacking in what they are currently being served in their countries, which is most likely the romance. Western media tends to think that romance is lowly and should be reserved for made for TV holiday movies about late 20-something women wanting a country escape, while Asian countries are throwing 30-year old and 40-year olds at us finding love in the workplace (Cherry Magic, Old Fashion Cupcake, GAP, and HIStory 3: Trapped <-Yes, I included it here!).
There is something for everyone here. You didn't have a great high school experience? There is a BL or 18 million to heal you soul. You couldn't play sports because of various reasons? There's a few BLs for you! College was rough for you? Well, we have some red and blue colored boys to help you through that. You want to see someone die? Let's serve you MaxTul, OhmFluke, and Japan. You like gaming? Here's Gameboys! Want to explore poly? We could have more if people weren't cowards, but we have a few. Your workplace has you stressed? Sit down and enjoy these soft workplace dramas. Want to overthrow the government? WE HAVE YOU COVERED!
TLDR: QLs are relentlessly queer in whatever way we want them to be served to us. We get to pick how we want to see ourselves, and for a community that has been underserved, underrepresented, and underappreciated, the appeal is seeing ourselves reflected back at us however we want, and that is a powerful thing.
I am stunned. I couldn’t have put it better myself in a hundred years and I’m a writer. You said everything I was thinking and so much more in the most eloquent and ‘listen up bitches’ way ever.
I’d also like to add, internationally why I think Queer Shit is popping off is a couple factors.
Minor history lesson of people liking international queer shit since the 90s
Lack of diversity of content in the west (mainly American/Europe)
Rise in accessibility via streaming platforms, VPNs, pirating, etc
Putting the rest under the cut b/c it’s, uh, a lot Pikachu has a lot of gay thoughts y’all
@chaos0pikachu gives this amazing analysis of QLs but doesn't forget to add a little dash of tumblr by mentioning Goncharov. (I lost it. It was hilarious)
I mean, we joke and shit but think about it, how actually and legitimately sad is it that the gayest mafia media America has ever produced was a fake tumblr movie?
Like, the only gay characters I can think of in a crime genre for American media are like, Omar Little (The Wire, 2002), Vito Spatafore Sr. (The Sopranos, 2001), and if we stretch really far we could consider like Dr. George Huang (Law and Order: SVU, 2001). I say stretch for the last one b/c The Wire and The Sopranos specifically deal with gangs/mafia as a sub-genre of “crime” while L&O is copaganda, a different sub-genre of “crime”.
But even then, Vito only “reveals” himself as gay in season 5 out of 6 seasons, and is closeted. George is literally, and ridiculously, “revealed” to be gay after the actor left as a regular, in a guest starring episode, and in some of the most ham-fisted dialogue, only to again disappear from the show save for another handful of guest appearances (honestly, B.D. Wong was too good for the show). Omar is the best character of the bunch. But still these are all from the early 00′s. I probably am missing more recent secondary character additions since there’s just a ton of crime genre stuff out there but it’s bleak.
Western, especially American based media likes their mainstream gays in (2) neat little categories: high school coming-of-age stories (Heartstopper, Love, Victor) and Oscar Baity dramas (Power of Dog, Mr Policemen). There’s only recent outliers to this (Bros, Fire Island) that I can think of in the past year.
Again, going back to that factor 2, there’s just a lack of diversity in storytelling. Like Bad Bunny might be set in university (a school setting mildly similar to the high school setting of the west) but the drama isn’t a coming of age acceptance tale. It’s an rivals-to-lovers tale. Until We Meet Again might be in the university setting, but with a soulmates twist. Then you have offerings from Taiwan where an anthology series like History gives you a little bit of everything: high school, university, mafia, workplace. And if you still want more grounded and realistic dramatic media you have films like Ride or Die, I Told the Sunset About You, Your Name Engraved Herein.
Not to say there aren’t strides being made in American media, there’s more queer characters in kids animation than ever before and since kids animations tends to skew towards action and fantasy there’s an uptick in seeing those characters in those genres as well. We’re beginning to see queer characters pop up as secondary (but prominent) characters in other genres too for television outside of comedy or the high school setting (Fear Street, Willow). But I don’t think we’ll ever see an industry of queer media the way we do in Thailand, SK, or Taiwan tbh (or even China for all their censorship they sure do pump out danmei adaptions).
i cant stop crying:

Love in the Air (2022) l ep 13 - uncut version.
The way Sky holds his hands over his chest shows that he is still insecure. He still needs Prapai to show him his worth.
Tattoos in BLs
Dean [Until We Meet Again & Between Us] - I do not remember seeing this, but I have the picture, so it must've happened. It’s a compass on his hip because he was lost without Phram and always looking for direction.
Win [Until We Meet Again & Between Us] – We will hopefully find out something next month when the series begins, but even if we don’t, we can still appreciate that these are henna including those angel wings.
Jang JaeYoung [Semantic Error] - Does it have meaning? As he stated in the series, “Not really. I just liked it” but I'm seeing an eclipse thanks to Ayan's hoodie.
Chu SangWoo [Semantic Error] – Hand drawn by JaeYoung, and it is the first image JaeYoung ever drew for him when they first met in the episode one.
Black/White [Not Me] – White had to get it because Black had it, and Black had it because..no idea, but it could symbolize death or strength.
Yok [Not Me] – Mandarin on the flank means mom, but the birds and the forearm one, no idea.
Tonhon [Tonhon Chonlatee] – “An anchor is what a navigator or sailor uses to hold his vessel to the ocean. Tonhon means a navigator. That’s why I had this anchor tattooed on my left chest to remind me that my heart will not drift away. It will be with the ocean and that is your name, Chonlatee, forever. Every time I look at it, it reminds me that I have you in my heart all the time.”
Kamol [Unforgotten Night] – I didn’t watch this, so I’m guessing that it was because he had pet tigers, and I'm fine believing that.
Ai [Ai Long Nhai] – A crescent moon, but the reason, if any, hasn’t been revealed yet.
Mangkorn [Big Dragon] – Mangkorn means dragon, and he is the dragon (Yang) to Yai’s tiger (Yin).
Porsche [KinnPorsche] – A phoenix because that was his underground fighting alias, fire is his friend (he gets the fire started in the woods, he starts a fire in his first week on the job, he smokes), his mom used to tell him stories about the phoenix rising from the ashes, his color in the series is yellow, and he is the phoenix/fire (Yang) to Kinn’s tortoise/water personality (Yin - he's like his mom).
Pete [KinnPorsche] – “No legacy is so rich as honesty” is from Shakespeare’s comedy All’s Well That Ends Well, which is about a woman of lower rank trying to marry the man she loves who is of a higher rank. The quote shows not only to live an honest life (in a play full of dishonesty), but to be honest with oneself, something that Pete does in the end when…you know.
Ram [My Engineer] – Has a dream catcher on his neck to chase away bad dreams, a wolf on his arm, a tribal turtle on his shoulder, and a few others.
Forth [2 Moons 2] – Actor’s actual tattoo. Might be a Sak Yant tattoo for good fortune.
Sarawat [2gether] – Actor’s actual tattoo. I think it was something about remembering who you are.
Ayan [The Eclipse] – Actor’s actual tattoos. The thigh one is a G-Dragon lyric telling his mother not to worry about him. Hip tattoo pending. *A little salty about the hip one*
Please return us to a world where Notp and squick are used for a ship you don’t like instead of just making up a load of bullshit about how immoral it is or w/e lol
a short selection of concepts and phrases that used to be commonplace in fandom and we’d really benefit from making that a thing again:
NOTP: the opposite of an OTP (One True Pairing). It is a ship a fan strongly dislikes. The word is a portmanteau of ‘no’ and ‘OTP’ and thus is not a contraction of any particular phrase.
Squick: anything that is a deep-seated, visceral turn-off. Squicks may be shared by many fans or be specific to one; one person’s kink may be another person’s squick.
YKINMKATO, or kink-tomato: Your Kink Is Not My Kink, And That’s Okay: used to indicate support for fannish diversity and to distinguish between disapproval or kink shaming and simply having different taste.
DLDR: Don’t Like, Don’t Read: a phrase used to warn against complaints about an aspect of fic or meta. A “live and let live” philosophy of fandom, which places the responsability for avoiding content one doesn’t want to see on the side of the fanwork consumer, rather that on the creator’s.
SALS: Ship And Let Ship: similar to the above specifically about shipping tastes.
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary: a phrase used to acknowledge that any given individual’s personal opinion on the topic at hand may differ due to their own tastes, standards, values, experiences, etc.
As the OP points out, all of these crucially imply no moral judgment of what they’re designing.
(definitions lifted more or less wholesale from fanlore’s relevant pages)

Profanities Unlocked Ep 6/7
Many thanks to @punchlove-blog for noting that all the profanities were still in the TV version. You get sex or ‘fucks’, but not both. I delved a little into the TV version to bring you a few snippets of the boys at their best (read: worst). If you have IQIYI, you can go back and watch the TV version (although they only have up to Ep12 right now).
The beginning of Ep6. I didn’t even capture all of it, but a few of the highlights. Oh, so much cursing. They were not pleased with each other…
Apo, setting the tone for their forest adventure
A question that Kinn is definitely avoiding asking himself.
That’s it, you tell him Porsche. Own it. Maybe throw in some spitting to make your point.
Well done. You don’t realize it, but Kinn needs a steady dose of your saliva to melt his mafia heart. Topical, oral, however you like to apply it.
Cursing done, now onto the loving.
And then there is the end of Episode 7, where they are a touch angrier than the heck and darns would lead you to believe.
Kinn’s entrance, setting the tone for the bathroom adventure.
Exactly. This is not the expression of a man saying, Get the heck out.
Yes, much better than crappy.
There you have it, what we traded away to get the sex and violence.

Mel’s Rec list of Drarry Podfics (80 + All over 2 hours long)
Podfics are such a love of mine, I respect and adore all the people who take SO much time and love to bring our authors words to life so that we may listen to the stories we love when we don’t have the luxury to sit read them ourselves.
I have gathered all the Drarry podfics I could reasonably find that are over 2 hours long and just put them in 1 list for you guys. This list is current as of 4/2022.
You’ll find them under the cut all separated by listening time. There are just over 80 on this list. I'm sure there are pods I missed, and hopefully I labeled the ones I did find correctly.
I also included a list of all the podficcers from this list at the bottom if you wanted to check them out individually.
Sorry I did not include any pods under 1 hour there are just too many of them.
If you know any I missed please feel free to add them in the comments
And Don’t forget making podifcs takes a lot of work and if you like what they do be sure to let the podficcers know so that they can be motivated to make more for us!
Also let the original authors know too they are the reasons we get these beautiful stories after all!

The Absolute King and the White Queen: Korn and Porsche and the State of A Union at the End of All Things
This post exists because I’ve spent days screaming at poor @liyazaki over the fact that I sat there as the credits rolled on the final moments one of the most epic romances I’ve seen on film, possibly ever - but at least in the top five of my all time - feeling profoundly moved by the devotion and emotion in the love story depicted and also deeply fucking disturbed by the machinations and consequences implied in the final moments.
There is a wild tension going on following the Episode 14 fight between the Major and Minor Families, which for the purpose of this post I’m going to refer to going forward as The Battle of The Two Families. The air of unease starts when shooting stops and morphs from something smoky and dangerous in Korn’s study into a sweet liquid-looking poison that fills in Porsche’s new life and that’s what I want to talk about which are Korn’s influence on every aspect of the characters of the world in which this show takes place and how Porsche ended up where he did or: The Absolute Monarch and the Queen.
We start with what we’ve been presented by the staging, the shooting decisions, the costuming - from the moment we see Porsche after the Battle of the Two Families and what it tells us. The show has dressed him in a way that took away his individuality - was a clone of Kinn rather than the Porsche we knew, subsumed by the Family organization and assimilated in a way he has resisted the entire series. Porsche is positioned in such a way that makes him seem like he, as much as he’s been given what he wants(Kinn) he has been devoured by the world of the mafia family. The bodies of the staff close in on him as they bow, the hallways seem close, the juxtaposition of who he was when he arrived and who he is is stark and make him look like has aged 10 years (derogatory.) As in love as he is, the final scene that he is shot in, with Kinn, is on the boat where he said “I would rather die” rather than belong to Kinn and literally threw himself overboard on the pilot and is now saying that he does belong to him. He’s given up ownership of his life not just romantically but physically, the same way he sold his body when we started in the bar to women and in the fighting pits, but this time he sold his life to the mafia. Porsche did it for the same reason he has always done it - so that he could be close to and take care those he loved. It’s worth noting that unlike the last time we were on this boat? This scene is shot in darkness. It’s a beautiful, sexy, intimate darkness, but it is darkness nonetheless. Porsche lives here now.
(gif by @jaehwany)
That is what it costs Porsche to have be allowed to love Kinn and have access to his mother. He will absolutely know happinesss, of course he will, and it’s important that we see him experience it on screen. See, the camera tells us, he has good things in this life, things that make this worth having. But the camera, in this world, stays close on Porsche with Kinn and the rest of their friends because the main if not only thing that is of any value here for Porsche, is the people he loves, and Kinn especially
We also know that in this dark glittering world, Porsche’s dream will never come true and he will never have that bar on the beach. He will never have his own life. He will be responsible for life and death decisions. He will never be free to finish college or spend time with his friends at his leisure. Porchay will never be completely safe from the mafia world. And while he has him, and they are together, Kinn is still not free to be his own man. Kinn would choose this world over him, even now, if Porsche chose to walk away. In the last shot we have of Porsche in the show is of him in what should be a positive scenario, his whole biological family reunited, but is, without a doubt, the most disturbing scenario of the whole fucking show - sitting with his brother and his mother - as she stares into the middle distance - either catatonic or terrified into silence while her children who she does not know try desperately to connect with her. We know she’s capable of more agency than that, we saw her move towards Korn, express fear and make a choice which way to go, but with her children, she does nothing. Korn has some sort of power here, with Porsche’s family of origin, even when he is not in the room, and it overshadows what should be a warm reunion after more than 15 years of separation. But it doesn’t. And that is where, baring a season 2 which we can’t don’t have a confirmation on yet? Porsche’s story ends.
Excluding Vegas and Pete’s post-credit scene (which is actually quite important to the context of this whole mess and will be touched on in this rambling Pepe Silvia conspiracy board of an essay), I have seen less disturbing Twilight Zone endings is my point here for Porsche
On the other hand, that was a sweeping and glorious victory for Korn. Check and mate. In his office with his fish and his phone, Korn has been enjoying being the conquering hero on the show that he’s on. Which not the show anyone thought thought they were in up until now. This complicates things significantly.
