#i have been SAYING THIS!#same thing when it comes to beauty standards in korea #i got into fights with my korean friends so many times about wanting to be pale / pale = beautiful #theyd say oh ppl tan on purpose in the west why dont u have a problem with that #well i do have a problem with that too buddy none of these things exist in a vaccuum korean pop culture takes and takes and takes #from black culture and then makes the conscious or even subconscious decision to say dark skin is ugly #they want to look like the furthest thing from the very source of their kpop heart #same thing goes for “the west” where that same theft of culture is so normalized #but they just blatantly rip off physical features of black ppl too #i dont trust anyone who is obsessed with kpop #anyone who is obsessed with idols and korea and koreans like that are simply infatuated #by the new fresh neopolitan face white supremacy has taken on in a foreign exotic land #and there are ppl fucking it up in the music scene actually making korean music with korean traditional vocals and instruments etc #why isnt that focused on more. yall dont wanna know about why the sea king sent the soft shelled turtle to get the rabbit n steal his liver?

briefly pursuing a career in animation radicalized me on this. So many stories from the industry about how you have to start with your character design as dark as possible, because INEVITABLY you'll get "notes" from higher-ups asking you to make them lighter.

In a class about making a pitch bible my teacher once role-played as a shitty executive with a classmate, pressing them in intentionally abrasive ways about why they made their characters diverse. He emphasized that we had to learn to defend these things, because the racism in the industry is extremely deliberate.
