Lois had never been very good at listening to directions. From the time she was a kid, she was constantly misbehaving and going against her father’s wishes. It wasn’t that she was purposely causing chaos, but rather that she was curious and had an instinct that could smell a good story. Even before she was a journalist, that was true for Lois. Always able to tell when something note worthy was going to happen.
When Clark had asked her to stay in Metropolis, she begrudgingly said yes. Truth was, she was itching to follow her husband out to New York to see the action and hopefully help, but he insisted, so she stayed. That, and she didn’t want to uproot Jon’s life randomly. So she agreed to stay in Metropolis, alone with their three year old son and her job at the Daily Planet.
But then, during one of Clark’s visits back to Metropolis–his most recent–something happened, and two weeks ago she found herself in the possession of a positive pregnancy test. That was when she decided to say fuck it to Clark’s request and do what she could to get to New York.
Getting Perry to reassign her to the Big Apple was easy, especially with the pregnancy news, and after packing up most of their stuff and selling their apartment, Lois dropped Jon off at Martha’s and headed to New York (of course with the promise that she and Clark would be back in two weeks when the new house was set up, and he’d move back in with them).
And as fate would have it, her first subway ride was one of disaster due to a hijacking. Lois had gotten off the subway car as soon as she could, though did her best to help others get off as well. That was when she saw him. A smirk appeared on her face. “Hey, Superman!” she exclaimed to him, amused. “It’s all one guy,” she had seen him split into 3 different goons. “Find the one with the green bandana.” Always helping out, that was Lois.
Superman levitated slightly, making his way into the subway station and around the panicked multitude easier on him. As he approached, focused on the familiar heartbeat, he saw her climbing off the subway. He watched his wife in sheer confusion, the chaos around him momentarily forgotten. "Lois? What are you doing here?" He should've been angered, he would've wanted to be, but instead he was completely taken aback. Her calling out his name seemingly amused doing nothing but worsening his confusion. "You said you'd stay--" but his words were cut off as she mentioned critical information about the attackers. That was when the Kryptonian pulled himself together, frowning slightly as he scanned their surroundings and walked towards her.
Superman heard him before he saw him, the clicking of the metal on metal as the man readied his firearm to shoot. Clark didn't think twice, he used his enhance speed to rush to Lois and, wrapping his arms around her, pulled her up and away from harm's way. The rain of bullets made a hole on the cart, and he hurried to put her behind solid cover. Lois was no strange to his speed nor to flying, so he knew she trusted him fully and would have no problem with him using his speed to carry her behind a solid wall. "We will talk about this when this is over," he said to her lowly with a frown, although he couldn't lie that the sight of her uplifted his very spirit.
Disappearing in a flash, he returned to face the gunman as he attempted to jump into the subway as it prepared to depart. He was the one with the green bandana which Lois had told him about. If the rest were just doubles, beating him should get rid of the others. "Put your weapon down and yield," Superman demanded with a deep frown. But the only answer he got was the continuous bark of the automatic assault rifle. The bullets all crashed into the Kryptonian symbol of Hope upon his chest, falling at his feet. Once the criminal realized he had ran out of bullets, he tossed the rifle to the side, pulling a large dagger from his back and charging at the Kryptonian with what reminded Kal-El of a battle cry. The man seemed to be aiming for his throat when Superman easily grabbed the dagger's blade and crushed it in his bare hand. As the attacker let his defense fall and stared in disbelief at the Justice Leaguer's uninjured hand, Superman delivered one definitive blow to the insurgent's head. He fell to his knees, looking up in a haze at a towering Superman as he crossed his arms with an arched brow. "The authorities will be here for you soon," he said just as the criminal fell unconscious, able to hear the sirens as they were dispatched. The train's machinery slowly came to a stop and surveying the train, he saw Lois--as always-- had been right. They had all been copies of the same man, and they had disappeared once the original had been taken out of commission.
Returning to Lois, he sighed as he took a moment to take in the image of her. Even after everything, after all their time together, Lois still took his breath away. "Up for a short flight?" He asked her, attempting to remain upset at the fact that she had not kept her end of the bargain and stayed in Metropolis as he had asked. "I rather not have this conversation here."
