tian knew that he had big dreams which were going to be hard to accomplish. he’d been told by many people in the past that he should lower his expectations and not aim so high, especially not after his injury as it was a sign. but he refused to do that, aiming lower was not an option for him and he was determined to get to where he wanted to be. and if he didn’t make it he didn’t really know what he was going to do, but he would find a way to pick himself up. “there is a lot of the same skills in the different positions,” it was not all too difficult to switch around and he didn’t struggle all too much when he had to. “i’ve always wanted to be a point guard,” he did continued with a smile, “and i don’t think i’m going to end up being tall enough for anything else.” while he might be tall for his age now, he didn’t really think he had much left in him, maybe a couple of inches at most. “zhao tian,” he did have a flicker of worry across his face, wondering why he was asking his name, but he decided that it wasn’t a big deal, “and i’m only a first year.”
It was true that each position required some of the same skills but as with everything, if someone had been in each position, that individual had skills that the ones that had remained in one or two positions didn’t have. When the younger pointed this out, he simply nodded and once again, he saw the younger smile as he spoke about being a point guard. It was obvious that if anyone wanted to make Tian comfortable, they just needed to ask him about basketball and the guidance counselor was a little proud that he was able to figure this out without meaning to. “I do hope that you continue holding the point guard position and I’ll definitely go to the next game to see how the team is doing.” He meant what he said even though the last thing he wanted to do was to see how the coach was handling the team but as long as he was nowhere near the man, he thought it would be fine. “A first year. I thought you were at least a second year but it seems like you have enough time to get ready for college applications and scouts visits. I look forward to hearing about you in the sports sections.” Even though he had always been a realist and never allowed himself to dream about going professional, part of him wished good luck to those who dared to dream.

was that advice supposed to be a threat or actually worry him? maybe make him feel guilty for how he might have treated people in the past? well, it didn’t really work and tae just shook his head a little, snorting under his breath. “i haven’t done anything to anyone,” not recently, anyway. he might be a jerk and punched people all of the time, but he really was not worried about it. because from his point of view, once he got out of this place at the end of the year he was not going to be seeing anyone again. especially not any of the staff who jian might be pitying for having to put up with him. they would be stuck here teaching and he would be somewhere else far away from here and simply not thinking about it. “well, thank you for the completely useless advice, but i don’t care,” as if that was a surprise. like he cared about other people’s feelings or how he treated someone.
as far as he was aware, this meeting was over and jian was just hanging around to annoy him. and if that was the plan, props to him because it was working. he did consider the next words out of his mouth for a moment, but they just amused him more than anything. “i’m perfectly fine not having a job,” jobs were boring and the money was not that important to him. he had every plan of continuing what he was already doing and that was writing shit about people who deserved it. “but what you don’t know is my parents. they might nor care very much about me, but they do care incredibly about their damn reputation. i have my ways to get them to help me out, even if it’s just so i don’t go to the cops and tell them my family’s every dirty little secret.” he was going to be just fine and was really not worried.
Jian had expected the younger to ignore his words or say something along the lines of how little he cared about what he was saying. What he didn’t expect was for Taeyun to say that he hadn’t done anything to anyone because they both knew that that was a lie. Raising his eyebrows, he stared at the younger and it was obvious by his expression that he was not impressed by the other’s response and didn’t believe him one bit. “Is that why you are always getting into fights? Because you didn’t do anything to anyone?” Shaking his head, the guidance counselor was not sure why he was still there and the desire to annoy the other was slowly disappearing to be replaced with simply wanting to get this session to end. At the other’s words of how his advice was useless and that he didn’t care, Jian simply rolled his eyes because why did he expect more from the inferior leader?
Of course, what he didn’t expect was Taeyun to say that he was fine without a job and that he knew things about his family that would force them to help him out. This was the reason he was happy to be from a middle-class family because rich people seemed to care too much about their reputation and not enough about their families. “I can see that I am simply wasting my time and breath with you. Good luck with having to deal with people that you don’t seem that fond of for the rest of your life and I hope that you won’t regret staying dependent when you could have changed that.” Giving the other a look that made it obvious how much he pitied him, the guidance counselor turned around and made his way back to his office.
taejoonks
out of all the questions the counsellor could’ve brought up, taejoon was definitely not a fan of this one. truth be told, he had no discernible plans for the future. none. zero. zilch. he fancied himself an avid dweller of the spectacular now, and cared too little about thinking of college or a potential job, never mind the fact that he was edging close to the legal age as time went by. right now, he could either lie and make up some bullshit career path he was planning to take to further dissatisfy the counsellor, or be honest and lay all the emotional baggage that came with it out in the open. fiddling with the hem of his skirt, he decided to choose the former. “i…” he paused, “…want to be a star.” waving his hands in some kind of mock-jazzy gesture, he grinned at the elder. “you know, like that twice song.”
“yeah,” taejoon nodded, “i’ve decided that i’m going to bust it out of here after high school ends, get scouted by whatever shitty company will have me, fuck something up or another, and probably return as a fame chaser.” he shrugged, offering the counsellor a devil-may-care half-smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “solid plan, don’t you think?” he huffed out a breath upwards, messing up the fringe falling into his eyes. “so, as i was saying: sying, right. she’s okay. i think i actually like her as a roommate. i mean, i guess it’s a little early to tell? but she’s decent and cleans up after herself and all, so that’s nice. and i know i said her twin sister is hotter but she’s not exactly hard on the eyes, either, you know? oh,” he suddenly sat up on the couch, “do you want to hear about the first time we met? it was pretty hilarious.” it wasn’t, really, but what was a few more additions to a story he hadn’t previously disclosed to the counsellor? exaggerating things was another thing he liked to think he was good at, not that he could make a career path out of that.
If there was something that Jian didn’t expect was the shift in the room when he asked the other about what he had planned for the future but of course, before he could think too much about it, the younger was already talking about wanting to be a star. Jian had always been practical and realistic even when he was younger and maybe that was the reason he never thought for one second that he would become a professional basketball player. No, he needed to find a career where he earned enough money and where he could feel like he could make a difference. He knew that a lot of students in Keisung wanted to do something to do with the arts and while he didn’t encourage them, he didn’t want to discourage them either unless it was obvious that they didn’t have talent. “You are in the drama club but not in the music or choir club. Are you auditioning to become an actor or can you also sing?”
As the other explained what his plan was, Jian was not the least impressed because if anything, he wanted the other to get out of this place but of course, it wasn’t like he was going to say anything about this. “No, not really but you have about two years to come up with a better one and I hope for your sake that you do.” He told Taejoon this as he looked through his file but before he could ask him if there was a subject that he might not hate, the other started talking about Sying again. The ex-jock just wanted to sigh because this kid couldn’t keep his mouth shut for a second and it was getting on his nerves. “I am sure the story is hilarious but I am more interested in whether you have considered doing something else other than being a start as you put it.”
ksjitae
for once, minsu had actually been around all day, which probably spoke for itself given the all black outfit and grumpy looking expression which was kind of just natural for him now. but given that jitae was too tired and lux had gone god knows where, minsu was at least able to settle down without a pounding headache from their dissociations. and now he’d been in the music room for a good few hours really, fingers plucking at guitar strings because if there was something that they all had in common, it was music. jitae liked the piano, lux liked to sing, and minsu liked guitar and singing together. though give or take that they all actually liked singing, jitae was just on the shyer end and usually kept it to himself. lux and minsu knew though.
what minsu wasn’t expecting though was for the door to open, and not a student enter but a staff– particular staff; jian. who entered looking a lot like he was trying to disappear maybe, which was odd, but minsu just watched for a moment with interest before shrugging him off. “s’fine.” because it wasn’t like he was to bothered honestly, though when there was a knock on the door, minsu’s head tilted as the older male turned to him. “fine, whatever. but i thought it was the students that were supposed to hide from staff.” he hummed dullely for a moment before getting up and answering the door. sure enough, there was staff member, and after a few comments that he was the only one here, and no, no one had passed by, the staff reluctantly turned and left, and minsu stayed put a moment to make sure he was gone anyway before closing the door. “they’re gone.”
Even as the other told him that it was fine, he wasn’t sure who it was since he hadn’t really talked to the alters or even Jitae that often. Yes, they were around almost since he started working at keisung but it wasn’t like he went out his way to talk to the kid. As a psychology professor, he should have been more interested in Jitae but he tried to extinguish that curiosity every chance he had. Of course, before he could leave or say anymore, someone knocked on the door and the guidance counselor found himself looking for a hiding spot. It was embarrassing, to say the least especially when the younger made the comment that students were usually the ones that hid from staff but he put it aside as he listened to the younger tell the annoying staff member that he was not there.
A sigh of relief left his lips a moment later when he heard the younger close the door but it was only when Jitae said that the coast was clear that Jian came out of his hiding spot. “Thanks.” He simply said instead of explaining why he was hiding because it was already embarrassing enough to be caught doing that by the younger. “Who would you be? Hopefully not Lux because I swear if you flirt with me right now, I am throwing you out of here, I don’t care if you were here first.” Maybe he shouldn’t have been so harsh but even though he had not talked to Jitae or his alters, he had the displeasure to meet Lux and there was no way after the day he had that he wanted to deal with him.
ksxara
It had been a long time since she shared a closet with a man. Not that her good-for-nothing ex-husband shared it with her for so long considering they divorced not even three years later, but it still had been a long time since she did it. But now, while not many of her clothes were with Jian, it still made her feel warm that she was experiencing it with him. Ara’s laughter rung out when Jian took his shirt away from her, her dress left in her hands as he became even more annoyed at her. “I drive you crazy?”, she teased, her playfulness coming out. “Well then, Joo-ssi, I’ll take the bathroom first. Feel free to share with me if you wanted to.” And she gave him an air kiss before locking the bathroom door to take a quick shower. Besides, if Jian wanted to share the bathroom, he could unlock the door easily.
Just as she was putting on her dress, she was reminded too late that the dress she had pulled out was zipped up from behind. And so she did the best thing she could possibly do: she went out of the bathroom with her dress unzipped and had looked for the ex-jock in the apartment. “Jian?”, she called out, before finally smiling as she found him, that little sense of déjà vu hitting her which she had promptly shaken off—she didn’t need to be reminded of that time they slept with each other and then had almost broken off their friendship because of it. “Can you help me zip up the dress?”, she said as she turned her back on him, her back exposed to the man. And if he saw what lay underneath her dress…well, it all fell to how he reacted to that then.
Even though there were times that he could become the flirty young man that Ara met almost ten years ago, when it came to his work, he turned back on the grumpy man that everyone in keisung knew so it was no surprise that he was not amused by the fact that she wanted to wear one of his shirts to school. Giving her an unamused look as she laughed and teased him again, he waited until she was inside the bathroom to shake his head as a smile appeared on his lips because he knew that she was going to be the death of him. It was only when he heard the sound of the shower that he looked for the outfit he was going to wear that day and once he finished making his bed, he placed it on the bed.
He had some time before Ara would be done so he headed to the kitchen to grab some water before settling down on his couch to watch the news. He hummed when he heard her call his name and the next thing he knew she was in front of him asking him to zip up her dress as she revealed the black lingerie that she was wearing. “I swear you are going to be the death of me.” He told her as he stood up and even though there was annoyance in his voice, the way his lips curled made it obvious that he was just putting on a show. Of course, he could tease her as much as she could so using his finger he traced his thumb down her spine slowly before he finally zipped her dress fully. “Let me take a shower and then we can leave.” He whispered into her ear and even kiss her on her neck before he made his way back to the bedroom to grab his clothes and then head to the bathroom.

at least they had moved on from the awkward conversation about the student, so he now he wasn’t really nervous anymore. which was good because that had been pretty awkward and now he didn’t have to really worry about fumbling over his korean anymore because he wasn’t nervous. “i really play every position sometimes because growing up i was always at different heights and i was always filling,” it was not like he had one huge growth spurt and just shot over everyone. sometimes he was the tallest and sometimes he was in the middle, it was rather weird and always meant that he could never really stick with one position. he was trying to change that now he was pretty sure he didn’t have much growing left in him. “well, i hope so,” was all he could really respond with. but just because he was putting in the work didn’t mean that anyone else was going to. “that’s the plan, yes,” he responded with a grin and a nod of his head, “i want to go to college in the states and play college ball there.” it had been his dream for years now and he was pretty determined to get it.
As they continued talking, he noticed that the younger didn’t seem as nervous as when he first spoke to him but as he listened to the younger talk about basketball, it was obvious that it was because the sport was important to him. The guidance counselor might not have planned to go professional but that didn’t mean that he was not serious about the sport. If it wasn’t for the fact that he was staying clear about any teaching/coaching job that brought back memories that he didn’t want in his life, especially right now, he would have jumped at the chance to become the coach if the position opened. “Then you must be pretty good if you managed to pull off all of the positions. Is point guard your preferred position?” He really should have left by now but the basketball player in him didn’t allow him to do that. It was no surprise to him when the younger explained that he indeed planned to go professional but he did not expect him to say that he wanted to go to the states to play. “I do hope that you achieve your dream. What year are you in and what’s your name, again?”

he had been thinking that just giving short answers meant that this would be other with sooner. it was not like he had much to say about what he was asking in the first place, this was just one pointless meeting which was now just being held in the middle of a corridor. that was his own fault, however, seeing as he had been too stubborn to actually go to his office or show up when he was supposed to show up. and he doubted that it was going to be the last time he decided that he couldn’t be bothered to show up, either. he would just have to do better at evading who he needed to.
“you shouldn’t even bother to chase me down in the first place because it just going to be like this every time,” a huge waste of everyone’s time. it was probably just easier if jian lied and say that he had seen him just to avoid this. “you are joking,” he snorted with a shake of his head, “i’m only in that dumb club so i can write shit about people i don’t like.” besides, it was not really like anything else interesting happened around here to write about that everyone didn’t know about already in five seconds because gossip travelled faster than a wildfire. “and my parents have made it quite clear they are done helping, otherwise, i wouldn’t even be in this dump. do you honestly think i want to be here?”
If there was something Jian didn’t want to do again was to deal with Taeyun and so when the other said that he shouldn’t bother to look for him again, he could agree with the younger. Then again, there was a part of him that was petty enough to do exactly the opposite just to spite the younger but of course, he was smart enough to know that there was no way he was going to do a favor like this again. The only reason he accepted to do favors for other staff members was because that meant he would have something to hang over their head if he was ever in need of something and well, it was also kind of his job to help professors whenever they had to deal with troubled students. “I really pity whoever has to deal with you in the future, especially your teachers but be careful, life has a way of making you pay for what you did to other people.”
He doubted the inferior leader would follow the advice he was giving him but that mattered little to him since he was not the one that was going to deal with the consequences. As he listened to the other, he couldn’t help but realize that Taeyun was either naive or he really didn’t care about his future. If his family was not willing to help him, then how was he supposed to impress the interviewers if he wrote trashy articles and had no flashy experience. “Truthfully, I don’t care if you want to be here. You are here and while some students can manage to get a job even though they graduated from here, you need an edge to be noticed or they will hire the ones with the degrees from good universities. Find an internship and make contacts or you are going to find yourself without a job and homeless if what you said about your parents is true.”

Yuri figured that she could mess with the staff member’s mind, but decided to leave it alone. She truly didn’t know who the kid was, nor did she care to know where they were. She just loved to be a nuisance sometimes. It thrilled her simply out of boredom, whenever she felt the need. The young adult glanced at her phone, before looking at the male observing his facial expression. She could tell that he was on a serious search and possibly running out of options. Letting out a sigh, she placed her phone on the table, and folded her arms. “Alright, I can tell you’ve been doing this for a while, so I can try to help. I guess. Consider it a good deed of mine for the day.” She leaned closer to him and took another look of the photo, before sitting down correctly. “Implicating myself? Yeah, no. I can do stupid shit, but I’m not stupid. Also, I don’t involve myself in other people’s mess if I’m not already apart of it.” Smoothly slipping the phone from his hand, she leans closer to other students at the table. “Any of you guys seen this kid? No? Yes?” Taking in their responses, she nods and turns back to the male. “Once again, it’s a no. Although, they do look kind of young. Do they do sports or something? Check that way.”
The more the younger talked, the higher his eyebrows rose and instead of replying to her words, he remained quiet because he wasn’t that interested on the reason she decided to help him. No, he just simply wanted to find the annoying kid and get on with his day. He wondered if it was a blessing that he was not Yuri’s counselor but then again, half of the students in keisung were annoying so the less students he had to deal with, the better. He was not convinced by her reply but he guessed only time would tell if she had told him the truth. “Good to know. It might be helpful for everyone in your clique to learn to do the same.” Usually the misfits were easy to deal with but the trouble came when their friends were attacked. He fully understood them but at the same time, he wish students would just stay out of trouble and not make things worse He was definitely not amused by the fact that she took his phone without even asking but at least he got the answer he was looking for which was that none of them had seen the student. “They are in the swimming team but since they skipped all of their classes, I doubt they are going to be at practice. My phone, please.”
ksxsying
she was still nervous about being here, but it was easing a little as she realised than he wasn’t as intimidating as she’d thought be would be– and considering she’d heard that jian was apparently a scary person, he wasn’t appearing that way? but then again, she did know that he knew about her condition and obviously that could’ve changed things anyway. “ah, yes, i know.” she nodded gently, “everything’s been okay right now though, i don’t mind it too much and my roommate isn’t bad either.” she smiled softly once more then, because she was at least lucky enough that things were mostly going alright now.
“they’re alright! again, i mean, different from what i’m used to because before i was at the school of arts, but it’s not too bad. i’m just.. getting used to schooling like this again anyway, because i’ve been homeschooled most of my life.“ she was mumbling again, words a little rambled out because she let her thoughts run just a little for now. “i’ve been to radio a few times, and i have astrology next week. it’s fun though, i like having other activities to distract myself. and the masquerade coming up is another one..“
As the younger mentioned her roommate, the guidance counselor immediately thought about what Taejoon had said and once again, he reminded himself that it was none of his business. Then again, this girl was gravely sick and well, even though he didn’t want to get involved, he knew he just couldn’t do anything. “That’s good and if your roommate decides to be an ass, let me know. I am also his guidance counselor so I can talk to him.” Taejoon might be annoying and talked about useless things but he managed to get him to his office so he hoped that he could talk him into leaving Sying alone if he got to be too much.
Although he read in her file that she had come from a school of arts, it was as she mentioned it that he was reminded of that fact and he knew that there was no way she would ever get used to the difference. Then again, in his opinion keisung was better than homeschooling since she got to make friends and live like a normal college student; he wasn’t sure if she was okay with socialization though. “Was the change from homeschooling to a proper school hard?” He needed to know if she was still struggling with it and if she was, then he would need to talk to her teachers to make a plan. “I am glad that you are looking at it that way instead of thinking of them as burdens. Are you helping with the decorations or just attending the ball?”
@ksjitae
Right now the only thing Jian wanted to do was to strangle someone, a specific someone that didn’t seem to get that he had no intention of doing him another favor and had been waiting for him at his office after a meeting he had with the principal. He knew that the staff member had seen him turn around and leave but he didn’t know if he was being followed. Thankfully, he knew the school better than most and if the staff member was following him, then by the time he found himself in the music rooms, he was sure he had lost them. Still, there was no way he was going back to his office where he knew the other would be waiting for him and slipping into one of the music rooms, he closed the door behind him before he realized that the room was not empty.
“Oh, I, um, I thought it was empty.” He told the student that was already inside and the thought of leaving passed through his mind as he spoke. It was obvious that he was interrupting the other and it wasn’t like he wanted to stay there when there was someone he didn’t know. Of course, as he took a better look at the student, he realized that it was Ryu Jitae or one of his alters, he wasn’t sure. Before he could open his mouth to greet him or acknowledge that he knew who the other was, there was a knock on the door and the guidance counselor ran his hand through his hair because if that was the staff member he was going to strangle them. “If it’s a staff member, I am not here.” He whispered to the other as he looked for a place to hide and really, this was so not how he expected his day to go.

at least the conversation seemed to have moved away from the kid that tian had never seen before. that subject was just making him anxious about things and suddenly a lot more self-conscious about what he should be saying. but basketball was something that he could talk about without having to worry about the words which were coming out of his mouth. already he was starting to feel a little better, slipping into a more relaxed stance. “i run the point,” he always had and always would, it was just what he was best at. though, most of the time he was always switched into other positions because of his height, especially when he was younger and towered over everyone else. it was starting to get better, but he still found himself playing power forward or center half the time. “and i hope we will win the next one. we’ve been working hard and i’ve been putting in extra hours as well,” though he did know it was a team game and the whole team had to be on the ball if they wanted to win. it would just come down to if everyone else was on the team was doing their part in practicing.
The guidance counselor listened attentively as the younger spoke and the corner of his lips curled a little into a smile when he mentioned that he had been putting extra hours. He had done that when he was in high school but not so much when he was in Keisung because by then he was too busy being a reckless college student. Knowing how everything turned out, he would have done some things differently but now that he looked back on it and saw where he was, he was satisfied with how his life turned out. “I was shooting guard when I was on the basketball team and I am sure that you will do well if your teammates are following your example.” It was as he told the other with a nod, that he wondered if the other was a jock… no, not a jock but their high school equivalent. “Are you planning on going professional?” He asked instead but then again, he realized that even if he said no, that didn’t mean that the younger was not a… player; after all, he had been a jock and majored in psychology before he became a psychology professor.
ksxtaeyun
like the guy was actually going to start talking about his file. buy the looks of things he didn’t even have it on him, so unless he had his file memorised, which he really doubted was the case, it was not happening. not that tae was really bothered if it did, there was nothing in there he didn’t mind people knowing about. it might be different if he had some deep secret he wanted no one to know about in there, but he did not. the only secret he had had not happened at this school and was not in his file because no one, besides him, even knew about it. so he really wasn’t worried about it.
but what he couldn’t believe was that they actually were going to do this stupid meeting in the middle of the corridor with people walking past. the questions were dull and he didn’t even need to think about them for very long, but he really was not in the mood for this right now. “yes, job, no,” he just responded, folding his arms a little tighter across his chest. he really didn’t see the point in giving more detailed answers, the longer he stood around giving a detailed report about his plans, the longer this meeting would go on. if he was being honest, tae didn’t even really have any plans. he hadn’t thought about it, his only plan was to get out of this dump so he could do something a little more interesting. “anything else? or are you finally going to get the message to buzz off and bother someone else?”
Pressing his lips together, the guidance counselor wanted nothing more than for the other to take this seriously and answer his questions with more than yes and no answers. Was it too much to ask? It wasn’t like he wanted to be there and the only reason he was here was that someone else didn’t want to deal with the inferior leader. Not that it was any surprise now that he had spoken to the younger and he pitied whoever had to deal with him as a teacher. Of course, when the younger spoke again and show little respect, Jian narrowed his eyes and openly glared at Taeyun.
“Oh, is that what you were trying to convey? If I had known that you wanted me to bother someone else, I wouldn’t have chase you down.” Sarcasm could be heard in his voice as he said this and if the other thought that he was done, he was very wrong because now he was going to ask things he wouldn't have asked before. “You are in the newspaper club, do you think whatever articles you have written there are going to help you find a job? Are they so masterfully written that they would wow the interviewers or are your parents helping you get the job you want?”

Noh Ji Wook Looks™ | Ep 2
ksxsying
sying had always known in some capacity that her life was never going to be long. that she wasn’t going to be one of those women living into their eighties happy and healthy still. no, because she would never be a hundred percent healthy, and the moment that she’d found out that yet again, there was another issue threatening to end her life quicker than she wanted– anyone wanted. it made the realisation dawn in her again that she wasn’t going to live the happy, almost fairytale life, that she wanted.
and today she had a guidance meeting anyway, and she already knew at least that the staff knew her predicament and it wasn’t like she had a say in not telling them anyway, because they did deserve to know at least anyway. but she offered the smile back then when walking into the room and sitting on the chair, even if there were nerves within her. but sying nodded, noting the name before moving onto listening to the question. “it’s alright. not.. like where i was at before, but i don’t really hate it. it’s just a lot to get used to.” she mumbled a little bit, fiddling with her uniform then.
As the younger replied to his question, the guidance counselor simply nodded because even though he had not come to Keisung as a high schooler, he knew how different it was to the schools he had attended. Not only that but adding that to what she was going through, Jian was sure that that made everything harder. “Understandable. I am sure you have been told this before by the principal and any staff you have talked to but if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask. Our job is to make things easier for you and we will try to do it without attracting more attention to yourself, I can assure you that.” It was strange to try to be so accommodating but then again, when he was a professor, he was like that.
“How are your classes? Have you gone to any of the clubs you signed up for?” Even though he was asking almost the same questions he would ask other students, it would be obvious to those students that he was acting differently. For one, he was actually trying to look friendly even if his smile was small and he was showing interest as well. Maybe it was the fact that she was sick or it gave him an excuse to act softer than he usually did but at least for now, the old Jian was making an appearance.

there was a cigarette between his fingers now as he lifted it to his lips alone with the lighter, still eyeing both the picture and the guidance counsellor as he lit up without really caring what the elder had to say about it. there were worse places for it anyway, and frankly, joon would smoke wherever the hell he wanted, around whoever as well. sometimes just to piss people off too– but jian was the one that approached him this time, when joon had been minding his own business too. “thanks for the tip, now i might just start making them do that to piss you off. or just hang around ara-noona more when you’re trying to come see her.” because joon might’ve been turning up for guidance now, but it didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to fuck around still to get on jian’s nerves, given that the elder male seemed to forever have something against him even when he wasn’t doing anything wrong. “wow, i’m taking that as a compliment, jian. i’m glad you’re finally acknowledging that.” he chuckled though, “you know you could always just figure out the kids timetable and wait for their next class, right? it’s easier to track a high schooler than a college kid.”
At the sight of the cigarette, the guidance counselor sighed inwardly because of course Yongjoo would be a smoker and it made him wonder if everyone in the rebel clique were since Ara was one too. He had the desire to take the stupid cigarette from the rebel leader but he doubted that that would stop the other from smoking and if anything, it might encourage him to smoke around him during their sessions. “Aw, and here I thought we were finally bonding. I guess I was wrong but go ahead, do your worst. I couldn’t care less, Yongjoo.” Jian was not known for being sarcastic since most of the time his voice was monotone and matter of fact but as he spoke, it was obvious that his words were laced with sarcasm. If the younger thought that he could threaten him, he was wrong and as he always did whenever students said things that he didn’t care for, he paid little attention to his words about taking it his words as a compliment. “I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t tried that already. They skipped all their classes but don’t worry, I will find them one way or another like I found you.” In the past, he would have simply told the other that but this time he allowed a smug smile on his lips.

the counsellor seemed to be relentless when it came to the pursuit of getting him to go for their sessions, and taejoon couldn’t really see why. what was the point? he sure as hell couldn’t imagine himself being in the elder’s shoes, having to listen to shit about other people’s lives he had to pretend to care about. “sure, whatever,” taejoon responded to his warning. there really only were so many places he could go without encountering the counsellor, so he walked by the counsellor without any intention to get away for once. the rest of the walk towards his office was quiet, which was just as well because taejoon had no desire to talk to the elder unless prompted. and he was going to make sure that the other regretted ever doing that in the first place, plotting to put his plan into action.
entering the counsellor’s office, taejoon threw himself on a couch, draping his legs over the armrest. that was going to leave a mark on the fabric by the dirty soles of his shoes, but he really couldn’t care less about it. “classes suck, but that’s not really anything new,” he quipped, “but yes. friends. i can tell you about them.” he sunk further onto the one-seater, letting his feet dangle over the side of the one-seater. “did you know my roommate is an idol? sying, from olympus.” he turned his head to face the counsellor, “you’ve probably heard of them, unless you’ve been living under some rock. anyway, she’s pretty cool, i guess. not as pretty as her sister, but i think we’re getting along okay. she’s like sick, or something, i don’t know – but i’m trying to get in her good graces so she can possibly give me her sister’s number. she’s hot. like, really hot.” taejoon wiggled the toes in his shoes absently, hoping that the pointless talk was effective in throwing off the intended course and purpose of the session.
As the younger settled on the couch, Jian was reminded again that it was impractical to have a white couch but while in the past he had not gotten rid of it because it was not his, now he kept it for a very different reason. He doubted that the student that was so fond of it would return but maybe it was the hope that she would come back that made it hard for him to replace the white couch. Of course, as the guidance counselor placed a chair nearby the high schooler and sat down with his file, the younger easily distracted him as he answered his questions and none of what the student was saying was what he wanted to hear. Of course, at the mention of Sying’s name, the guidance counselor furrowed his eyebrows because he was sure that he had read her file. It became obvious that he had been right when he mentioned that she was sick.
“I see. Have you given any thought of where you are going to go to college or are you planning on staying in Keisung?” He didn’t like hearing that the other was just trying to be friends with Sying just to get her sister’s number but it was none of his business. At least that was what he told himself as he asked Taejoon about his plans for the future. “I know you are a second year but it’s not too early to think about that or your major.” This was definitely not what he signed up for when he came back to keisung because he was supposed to only deal with college students and now he was in charge of kids that were maybe more infuriating than their older counterparts.
