People who hate/criticize the character Laura Winslow for not being interested in Steve must not have watched the same show as I did, though Steve is indeed a iconic character in black television history, he was also a fucking creep, a certified stalker, pervert and did not take “NO” for an answer. BIG RED FLAG. Nothing disgusted me more than when he terrorized Laura and then guilt tripped her into thinking she was too mean or at fault. On several occassions he just threw rules of consent out the window and we just kept applauding his character because  “He’s a nerd, he’s harmless. He truely loves Laura.” Neglecting the fact that Laura is allowed to reject anyone for whatever reason she chooses and only gets exceptionally mean when Steve won’t back down. “But she likes Stefan! and he looks the same as Steve but cooler, proof she’s a vain bitch.” Her being attracted to Stefan is more proof she wasn’t into Steve not just because he wasn’t physically attractive to her but because he had an awful invasive personality. Steve never changes, he never gets more considerate of Laura’s feelings (unless its a guilt trip moment) and He did manage to wear her down over time and in hindsight thats horrible. She just learnt to say yes because saying No didnt work.  Laura ending up with Steve was predictable and taught a generation of geeky heterosexual men, black men particularly that they are entitled to the affection of women and that they should continue to pursue women even after they says NO. That is rape culture and misogyny. Nerdy, Geeky, ‘weak’ men aren’t excluded from this.

My dude I get where you’re coming from, i’m not saying Steve would rape laura, its a family show and it was written off as an intense crush. But Steve’s motto of “wearing her down,” and gaining affection or pity (from a girl who clearly didnt like him) through manipulative ways, is indicative of rape culture. Which doesnt have to just be the action of rape but the perpetuation of cultural practices that promotes not taking “no” for an answer and using all kinds of underhanded methods to get women into bed/relationships. Which raised a generation of men to think thats normal, which can cause rape, in real life. He stalked her, forced her into situations in which she had to talk to him, and terrorized her family , no matter how many times she said ,”No. I don’t like you.”Its played off as her playing hard to get and that he should try harder but in real life its not that way. On several ocassions laura reacts with justified disgust that steve invades her privacy,barges into her life and ruins her efforts to do something and even though he is clearly wrong, in the end he is painted as the victim who needs comforting because Laura shouted at him for the fifth time that day( to go home steve!drop dead steve etc I dont like or want you). One incident that comes to mind, (there is at least two incidents of stalking and coersion every episode) is when he reads laura’s mind, and she has such a severe reaction it opened my mind to how awful steve could be. THey cut the laugh track and allowed laura’s actress to react like a real woman would. It was intense.  From then on, The romance to me doesnt seem lovable anymore because he spent years forcing her to love him, “learn to love me or have no peace!”. He took away her choice. His character promoted boys/men taking away a girl/woman’s choice to reject them.

Idk if you followed the story, but Tay from Dormtainment. There was a Tumblr girl who publicly accused him of stalking, beating her,etc. and it basically ruined his career. Apparently they went to court and he had evidence that she is actually the abusive one with threats and physical violence. She made a public apology (not public enough) and admitted to lying and manipulating but I saw some ppl talking about it and wanted to offer an update to anyone.

Nah I hadn’t been following that story, since the initial blow up.

Hello Tumblr people,

So yes I was in a manipulative situation. When dudes go through this stuff its hard to talk about.

This stuff should NOT happen in front of audiences. The internet gossip is a poison that makes healing ten times harder. I posted some evidence to my instagram, but really,  unless you’re showing internet audiences humiliating pictures like this…

No one will believe what’s happening to you.

I know. I look like…

But all jokes aside. You guys were used as an abuse tool.

The audience of the internet are looking for violent photos and statements and videos. That’s why it’s best to leave this stuff to AUTHORITIES. Internet investigations get in the way of actual justice. So I won’t tell the story on the internet to attract more negative gossip.

So the best thing to say about this is Domestic Violence teams got involved. The city attorney got involved. They made sure that I didn’t get charged. And I have boundaries to keep this situation away. That’s why you can’t find info online outside of gossip sites. There is no case.

I’ve had to take a few years to heal from that situation and such a public humiliation. The story started on this site, but went everywhere. I’ve had emotional wounds from witnessing domestic violence in my life so when I went through this publicly, I had to go through some therapy.

I’m much better now. Proved to myself how strong I can be mentally. And I healed some past trauma as well which was cool.

I refuse to put my head down and be filled with shame. This stuff happens. So I’m hoping to show how much different i am through being myself again.

So thanks to anyone who had any concern. And I apologize to anyone that may have been hurt or triggered by this situation.
