Give me a character, and I’ll break their ass down:

1. How I feel about this character.2. All the people I ship romantically with this character.3. My non-romantic OTP for this character.4. My unpopular opinion about this character.5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon.

John Brown: 1. I find him to be quite mysterious and intriguing. I also feel his sense of humor might be the driest of all Black Butler characters, with the only possible exception being William’s.2. Historically, we could ship him with Queen Victoria; rumors spread that they hooked up after Albert died. She was said to have been buried with a photo of him in one hand, and that that same hand bears the wedding ring he gave her (it had once belonged to his mother). A bouquet of flowers was placed over that hand, shielding that photo and ring from the sight of those who viewed her open casket. In the manga I only pair her with her dearly departed Albert, so no “quality time” with the queen for our John Brown. Therefore, I have no romantic ship for him.3. I don’t know just how loyal he really is to the queen, but John is true besties with that favorite white horse of his.4. I think it’s super popular opinion that he could later be revealed as an angel. I’ve been giving some consideration lately, though, to the crack theory he’s not the original John Brown in her service. I don’t recall who suggested that to me (if the person who suggested it reads this, I hope they remind me), but it’s somewhat plausible. Historically, John Brown was an old, kind of scruffy Scottish dude who died in 1883, right? So how do we have this young-looking and kind of cute guy filling this role? Sure, we like our manga and anime filled with cute guys, but…? What if the original John Brown died in the manga, too, and he’s been replaced by this (possible angel) pretending to be him? What makes me consider it the more I think about it is that blasted “Windsor affair” hinted at by Vincent and Diedrich. Their discussion about that happens about a year or two before the attack on the Phantomhives, so 1883 or 1884. They could be talking about some weird event (potential scandal) that took place in 1883 involving Queen Victoria and (the original) John Brown. This isn’t so much an unpopular opinion as it is a relatively unexplored theory-in-the-making.5. I want a huge reveal that he’s an angel. Bring it on. I’ve been waiting for him and his horse to be the manga canon parallel to Ash/Angela and Pluto (but without the bestial fooling around) for so long now…. But seriously: 😇👱🏼➕🐴= 🚫…. 😅

Victoria and John Brown (for the ship meme)?

Woohoo, we are talking pseudo-historical shipping now! Hmm, let’s see what I can come up with for this pair:

1. John said “I love you” first. Technically, he’d said it many times while holding up a puppet of Prince Albert, and Victoria had replied “I love you too, my dear Albert”, but one day John set the puppet down and THEN said it. Victoria’s initial reaction was to say what she always says, but it came out as “I love you, too, my dear sweet Al–”, and then she gasped and covered her mouth with a shaking hand when she realized John wasn’t holding the puppet anymore and had used his regular speaking voice.2. Victoria would have a background pic of John wearing a kilt and standing next to his favorite horse. (The real John Brown often wore a kilt, so why not?) John would have a background pic of the two of them posing together, both of them wearing those reflective shades. Making Victorian gang signs, trying to look tough. Hahaha!3. John leaves love notes on foggy mirrors, but for the longest time Victoria thought they were messages from Albert from beyond the grave. He had to start signing them “– John”.4. John gives Victoria future tech gifts that Victoria likes but doesn’t quite understand how to use, even if John explains them to her… so to her they are novel nicknacks that collect dust on a shelf. Now she has, among other things, a tamagotchi that “died” years ago, a shake weight that makes her blush profusely, a collection of Popeil gadgets, and a Furby (in Voodoo Purple) that still speaks mostly Furbish, though it has (Thanks to John) learned to say “Everything will be ok” and “The future is bright!” Victoria wants to dedicate new structures, like bridges… and public spaces, like parks… to John, but he keeps talking her out of it to avoid scandal.5. Victoria actually initiated the first kiss because it would have been highly inappropriate for John to do so.6. John sometimes wakes Victoria up with a kiss, but then he gets a bit downhearted when she sleepily mumbles “mm, Albert” as her eyes flutter open. She doesn’t seem to realize what she said, and John never mentions it.7. Queen Victoria doesn’t do tickle fights. She does not like the sensation it creates not the shortness of breath.8. Victoria takes baths, not showers. John will offer to bathe her, but he would never ask to get into the bath with her. And she never offers.9. John will sometimes have Phipps prepare something special for lunch or snack, but then John will serve it to Victoria himself. There’s no claiming John made it; obviously Phipps did. But Victoria appreciates John putting in those special orders and personally serving them.10. They don’t exactly go on dates. Victoria goes on public outings accompanied by her horse master. In the public’s eye, they are be seen as queen and loyal servant, nothing more. However, they have developed a complicated system of secretly communicating private thoughts to each other in public. Neither of them gets nervous unless they suspect someone’s catching on to their code. Then they change it up a bit to confuse anyone who is paying attention.11. Victoria doesn’t like “the nasty things”, so John kills the spiders.12. Victoria doesn’t drink enough to get drunk. John never drinks in front of her, though he might down a pint or ten in the kitchens. It hardly affects him at all. He’s completely sober again by the time he returns to her side.

Heheh, I hope this will do it for you. A hard one to write, for me. Victoria comes across to me as kind of dry and stuffy. John puts up with her lofty attitude because she was raised to behave that way. And he always feels as though he’s competing against a dead man for her attention and affection… because he is.
