Shall we begin?
More fun facts about ancient Celtic marriage laws: There were no laws against interclass or interracial marriage, no laws against open homosexual relationships (although they werenât considered âmarriagesâ since the definition of a marriage was âcouple with childâ), no requirement for women to take their husbandâs names or give up their property, but comedians couldnât get married
Itâs Adam and Eve not Adam Sandler and Eve
I want to expound upon âcomedians couldnât get marriedâ thing because itâs actually really interesting. Satire was respected in Ancient Ireland. It was thought to have great power, enough to physically maim the subject one was making jokes about. Satirists could bring down kings with a witty enough insult. That was actually their original function. When the king didnât do right by his people, a bard was supposed to compose a poem so scathing it would raise welts on the kingâs skin to oust him (it was illegal for a âblemishedâ king to rule.) Unwarranted satire was considered a form of assault. So what it boils down to is ancient Celts being like âThese people are too dangerous to reproduce. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH CHILDREN. EVER.â
whats a king to a bard
Thats literally a dnd skill

Even if youâre unemployed, even if youâre taking time off from school, even if nobody is calling and making plans with you, get out of bed, take a shower, put on clean clothes, wear some cologne or perfume, turn all the lights on, do some laundry, clean up a little bit.Â
Doing all this stuff causes a shift in your perspective. Do it in spite of your situation.Â
Thatâs the only way to create sustainable happiness, because if your behavior is dictated by your circumstances, youâre always going to be miserable. Donât let the world determine your mindset. Let your mindset determine how you view the world.
ok but like when did self-sacrifice become synonymous with death? writers seem to have forgotten that people can make personal sacrifices for the greater good without giving their lives. plots about self-sacrifice and selflessness donât always have to end in death. suffering doesnât have to be mourning. you can create drama and emotional depth on your show without killing everyone. learn to explore the meaning of living rather than dying
Death. Is. NOT. The. Only. Way. To. Advance. The. Narrative.
Fun things to sacrifice for your loved ones in your free time that donât include death and actually set up for a whole new season of high level drama:
- humanity (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - memories (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - love for that special someone (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - emotions (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - rank/position/ - yourself/your brain/your skills (give yourself over to bad guys and become their brainwashed agent so your loved ones live) - years of bloody ruthless traditions to make way for peace (hi lexa and fuck jroth tbh) - freedom (includes that of speech/mind/will) - your grandpaâs fortune - hell even material possessions have that girl sacrifice her goddamn house so they can pay off her gfâs student loans or whatever juST STOP KILLING CHARACTERS TO FURTHER YOUR PLOT
Other things to sacrifice:
- your most sought-after goal
- a strongly-held belief or conviction
- your own chance at happiness
I think weâre kind of starting to get away from this but have yâall noticed how in the vast majority of popular media, sex scenes donât actually tend to involve a lot of talking/fumbling/awkwardness unless itâs for humor or to indicate that the people having sex are a.) probably Wrong for each other somehow or b.) inexperienced, possibly having sex for the first time?
but âgoodâ sex, between people who are experienced and In Love etc, is almost always effortlessly athletic and steamy and they somehow telepathically know exactly what to do. Iâm not talking about knowing what their lover enjoys, thatâs entirely feasible, but they never even have to coordinate what theyâre doing. thereâs no âdo you want me on top?â or âdo you want to do [x]?â or accidentally getting in each otherâs way.
the overwhelming message that Iâve always gotten from pop culture is that Good Sex happens without communication and, more dangerously, that needing to communicate is a sign that youâre somehow bad at sex, when in reality thatâs almost definitely a sign that youâre, you know, a considerate partner who actually gives a shit about people being comfortable when they have sex with you. Â
why doesnât this have more notes
because I posted it less than 12 hours ago; give it time, friend
Not only that but like, overwhelmingly sex in media is portrayed as this steamy, well-oiled, SERIOUS machine. Like⊠whereâs the fun? Pop culture seems to be so obsessed with this communication-less pantomime of actual intimacy rather than the reality of intimacy going hand in hand with not only consideration but humour and mutual vulnerability.
Sex is by nature so awkward and odd and it NEVER works the way you see in films or on tv. Itâs never seamless and perfect and that is not a BAD THING.Â
Youâre not âdoing it wrongâ if youâre having problems getting a good rhythm and keep messinâ each other up by trying to help.
Youâre not doing it wrong if youâre laughing and talking and not taking it seriously.
And additionally, and now this is a complete tangent from the original point here, but youâre not doing it wrong if you donât manage to get off or get your partner off.
Sometimes sex is just the action and not the climax and thatâs COMPLETELY FINE. My partner and I struggled a LOT with this when we first started having sex because we both had terrible guilt when we couldnât reach climax or couldnât get the other off because we felt like that was what the whole point of sex was.
Media puts a lot of PRESSURE on sex and what it looks like that shouldnât be there and itâs AWFUL.
The focus is just so ⊠wrong.Â
hey @thepixiepaige no big but this is the best commentary anyone has ever added to one of my posts
The Wow! signal.Â
A signal sequence that lasted for 72 seconds in 1977 but has never been seen again. The signal appeared to come from a globular cluster in the Sagittarius constellation, but to this day no definite answer for where the signal originated can be given. Â
This signalâŠ
After numerous checks and re-checks, itâs been found to have definitely come from an extraterrestrial source.
It was broadcast at 1420 MHz. This frequency isnât used by Earth communications for science reasons. Itâs a frequency which neutral hydrogen emits at in interstellar space and is useful in radio astronomy.
Interestingly, emitting a strong signal at this frequency is a likely way to get someoneâs attention if thereâs anyone listening, because any other radio astronomers in the universe will definitely know of it and be making observations of it.
That really is a very strong signal. Against the backgrounds, it looks to me like about 30 standard deviations (give or take).
Actually, that globular cluster (M55) is just the closest object to the transmissionâs source. It appeared to have come from a region of mostly empty space (though itâs worth remembering that distant red dwarfs or brown dwarfs could be too faint to be detectable).
The astronomer who found this and scrawled âWow!â on that printout was Jerry Ehman at the Big Ear radio telescope in Ohio. Credit where itâs due.
Despite a lot of efforts, this kind of signal has only ever been recorded this one time. Thereâs a chance we may never know what it was.
It is unlike any other kind of phenomenon ever observed in astronomy. The only logical scientific explanation is that it was one of two things: Either it was a completely unknown and incredibly rare astronomical phenomenon which modern astronomy is completely unaware of â or it was an intercepted alien transmission. There are no other possibilities.
I really love the Wow! signal.
Okay but what does it sound like?
