one of the really fun parts of being mentally ill and/or neurodivergent and watching films like Perfect Blue is they become infinitely more terrifying because of how relatable certain themes are

like, dude. the terror of realizing you've been stuck playing parts for so long you don't know if there even is a real you anymore? losing the ability to feel like yourself even when you're totally alone, because now you only feel real when others tell you you are? not even knowing what your identity was in the first place and being forced into decisions where you're supposed to know who you are to actually make the right choices (how do you know what the right choice is when you don't know if it's honoring the desires of your true self or not)?

look me in my eyes and tell me that's not even a little bit autistic-coded. tell me that is not extremely relatable to those who mask (and, of course, dissociate, since truthfully that is probably more what the movie was trying to get at). you'd be lying!!

Making motivational "it's never too late to transition" posts is really undercut if the age you're highlighting is still young. Claiming that your transition was late and it worked out great for you actually makes older people more afraid to transition if you're saying that shit in your 20s. How do you think a trans person in their 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s feels when you're 23 and calling yourself a late transitioner?

It's never too late until you're in a coffin. It is worth it for a single day of being yourself, even if you're 110.
