Here you will find a wide variety of art-related items of mine that range from fan art and original characters to old drawings and practices sketches plus any other artsy piece that I wish to share. I didn’t really have as much time to draw this year in general, let alone for Inktober, but I had to at least try to draw for a few prompts for the tradition. Maybe I’ll return to this for my own sake in the distant future whenever inspiration hits and time permits, but I managed to make these 8 solid pieces.

It could’ve been just due to poor timing, but I didn’t really have many good ideas when I came to drawing based on this year’s prompts. While the early ones did come pretty naturally, I could tell my mind was not fully present once I created the cursed “Toothy” Kirby doodles. Despite everything, I still think I created some nice drawing for what it’s worth. Some pictures came out a little dirtier than I would have liked due to using a new sketchbook, though I feel like I was able to redeemed them to some extent after adding some color. In particular, I’m very proud of the Poppi α art with the amount of details I put into it.

I don’t really have a lot to show for it this time, but some good progress was definitely made with regards to my creative endeavors. This was definitely a tiresome year for many, including myself, yet it at least gave me a chance to somewhat reflect on what I did and could make. I have a lot of ideas, both new and in progress, that I still wish to improve upon in 2021 and beyond, so I guess here’s hoping that some good advancements will be made.

Practicing my digital and ink-based art with drawings of two of my own characters.

Haven’t been able to draw a lot over this past month, but I now have the time and energy to be productive with my creative energy. So to ease me back into my doodles, I drew something familiar in a new way.

With the ink drawing, I really wanted to figure out shading when using a pen to make my drawings pop out more. I’ve seen other artworks using small tick marks to simulate shading, so I just tried to incorporate it here. I ended up shading a bit with pencil in the tick marked regions to try and help it look appropriate. I need a bit more practice with the ticks to get it right. Otherwise, I used a white border to help keep overlapping black areas form fusing together. For a first attempt, I think it looks nice, especially on the clothing.

With the digital piece, I also experimented with shading using similar tactics that I’ve used when on paper. Really I just wanted to portray my little robot digitally as it was harder for me to confirm its color scheme on paper. Viewing it digitally just makes it seem more alive, and it made it easy to play around with different colors until I was satisfied. I’m still not totally use to using my drawing tablet, but little projects like this helps me learn.

I originally drew and posted these images back in April during the actual event, but I just got a bit too preoccupied to log my post over here... Better late than never I suppose. Especially since the VOD upload are nearing its end, it’s kinda relevant. Either way, these were my drawing of the roster from the TRG Colosseum 2020.

It was definitely fun to think of creative poses for everyone, especially for the ones who I’d never drawn before. With a few exceptions, I had a design previously created for everyone in the top three images. For those cases, I would reference back to my older images and improve as necessary. In particular, I like the new hair design that I made for Chugga and NCS.

The remaining four images contained people who I had to craft designs for from scratch. It was a challenge to makes appealing designs for each of the musicians as I chose not to draw their instruments. Because of this choice, the posing now comes off as a little “stiffer” than I initially desire. Although, I feel like my art style adds a bit of a “cute/charming” flavor to them that redeems the stiffness in my eyes. Specifically, I’m proud of how Adriana, Toxic, and Sab turned out along with the 8-Bit pairing.

I like the variety of colors I used across each person. I chose not to do much in the way of color shading mostly due to time restraints, though I was also running low on certain colors towards about the middle of the roster. Overall, my coloring could have been a bit more solid, but at least it did work to make the image more visually interesting when scanning through everyone.

I initially wanted to draw this piece digitally, though I’d been out-of-practice using my tablet for some time due to prioritizing other life matter. Hopefully by next colosseum I’ll be able to support the event with something new. At least their was a definite skill increase in comparison to my sketches for the event from last year.

In the meantime, I have been making some sketches for a digital fan art piece that relates to someone from the colosseum. A part of it should be posted soon.

Ending off the 2019 year and the 2010 decade with my first digital art pieces of my Q-Me Cast.

I received a graphics drawing tablet as a Christmas gift this year and immediately wanted to try it out. After a somewhat rough trial period of breaking in the new device and adjust to the different drawing method, I managed to create these new character renditions.

My main takeaway from this mini-project is that line art is a lot more challenging to get right that I initially thought, especially when you’re not physics drawing on your work. The indirect nature of using the tablet is very odd to get use to and requires a lot of patience to master. Luckily I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, so I really look forward to seeing my progress this time next year.

In regards to these images specifically, I feel like the Green and Blue image came out the best with regards to my line work. Plus it just happened to be the most dynamic out of the batch. The other three characters turned out well in their own right, though my Grey character was oddly difficult to me to portray correctly. The amount of curves around him may have been too hard to represent digital, so I hope he becomes easier to draw over time.

With this first step taken, I look forward to seeing how much my creative senses will develop overtime. I don’t expect to drop physical art anytime soon as I believe the two art forms work together quite well. Still, I would not be surprised if my next few posts may lean heavily in one direct for some time. 2020 is shaping up to be a pretty good year.

At this point, I feel like most people would have dropped of Inktober and moved onto something else. Although for me, I chose to persist due to some weird mixture of pride, care, and stupidity inside of my head. Also this was only the second time I tried to participate, and I really enjoyed taking part in the event the first time around. I tried my best to keep up with the commitment, and I glad I saw it all the way through to the end.

Now because I was so far past the initial end of Inktober, I tried to push myself artistically by forcing on creating more detailed and expansive images in comparison to the usual drawings I was doing. This lead to images like the Kid Icarus ones where the tinier details were a bit tedious to portray on paper, but pretty rewarding to complete.

I also dabbled with a background in the splatoon image just to see how well I could recreate the game’s setting. Drawing more inanimate objects was also a bit different for me as I enjoy drawing characters a lot more. It’s was overall nice practice for me.

I felt like I struggled a lot with coloring images with ink as I’d worry the image would lose the line art and lose some of the details in the process. Once I committed to the fact that I was okay with using color pencils in the art as well, I did feel a bit more comfortable coloring. When comparing this year’s art with the ones from 2018, my line art was definitely my main priority with color only exists if I had the color as a pen. It became mostly limited to adding extra highlights to the images. This year’s pieces seemed to be created with a reversed mentality when color was a higher priority over the line art.

The only other factor I feel I need more practice on is transitioning from my sketching phase into my inking phase as certain area may become unnecessarily dirty from stray marking. Otherwise, I can definitely see a major improvement in my art in comparison to when I try posting for Inktober in 2018 as well as when I started posing in general. I look forward to trying this again next year, but for now it’s going to be real nice to draw something non-Inktober related for a change again~

With these images, I started by trying to commit to an ink only style. Although I eventually transitioned back into using color pencils again not that long afterwards. I guess I had to commit to this year being one of trial and error with regards to color mostly. Still, there’s nothing wrong with that idea frankly as each of these images turned out pretty visually appeal in my opinion.

A personal favorite from this set would definitely include the Ashe and Bob image as that one was a huge commitment for me to pose and color with my current level of artistic skill. I also quite enjoyed how the Ice Climbers image turned out with it color, pose, and simplicity. It’s just an overall cute image that appeals to my senses.

In the near future, I do plan to finish off the last 11 days of Inktober just for my own sake despite it ending a while ago. I want to do an appropriate comparison between this and the previous Inktober, but I can give my honest opinions if one year isn’t completely finished.

Been a bit too busy and tired recently to update about how far I made it during Inktober this year, but now I’m can update with my current standings. I was only able to complete up to Day 20 before the month ended. Thus, here are the images from Days 4 - 10 with Days 11 - 20 in the next post:

As a review of this first set of drawings, they all showed off the fact that I really wanted to make each image pretty with color. I’m not entirely sure if my images met the standards for usual Inktober post, but I still tried to find a nice balance between ink pen and color pencil for each drawing.

The only real struggle I had with these images occurred when I was coloring with the black ink pen as I really don’t know how to make lighter shades of black with ink. I practiced a bit in the 0% Ginko image and the Blue Shell image, but I wasn’t really a fan of how it turned out especially with regards to the shadows. Still, the solid black is very pleasing to look at like in the Animal Crossing image.

Otherwise, the posing and overall creation process of the images was very fun this time around. My person highlight would definitely be the Animal Crossing and Monster Super League images along with my Monstorous Q-Me Cast images from Day 2 in a previous post.

•Day 3: StephenGeorg and MalMakes Fishing in the “The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” art style

•Theme: Bait

Immediately switching from spooky to cute, I drew Stephen and Mal of the YouTube channel StephenPlays and MalMakes (and StephenVlog) in honor of their Let’s Play of TLoZ: Link’s Awakening. I’ve been wanting to draw fan art of this pair for awhile now, but I could never find the right concept to base a drawing on. I’m glad that I finally accomplished this goal and have a simple, cute art piece to show for it.

Items like the water and the clouds were strangely a bit awkward for me to draw, but they seemed to turn out pretty okay in the end. Making fitting designs for both Stephen and Mal was also a bit difficult for me for some unknown reason. In the end I feel like they turned out to be a pretty decent portrayal of their real selfs in the Awakening style. For fun I also included one of the decent rough sketches of Stephen and Mal while creating the concept of the final image.

•Day 2: My Q-Me Cast with an Alternative Zombie/Halloween Design

•Theme: Mindless

With this given theme, the only thing I could think of was to draw zombies to some extent. Overtime, I decided to zombi-fy my main cast of characters.

Because this in not an artistic aesthetic I’m use to drawing in, these poses and visuals became an interesting mixture of my art style, some online references/cosplays, and multiple creative liberties to make something...relatively creepy. I don’t think I will draw in this manner much more beyond this piece, but I won’t say that “I’ll never draw darker pieces again” as it was pretty fun to draw characters in an unfamiliar way. Only time will tell I suppose~

As for my personal opinions on each character design, I think Pink is my favorite nearly beating out both Grey and Green. The very withered visuals on Pink keeps it looking calm and gentle while also being eerie in my opinion.

Designing Green and Grey was honestly very fun for me as they held the most potential to look beastly and creepy respectively. I was very proud of how both of their faces came out in particular. With my idea to portray the skin color as gray, my character Grey was a little difficult to color, but not too bad overall. Both characters may have too much color on them in certain areas, but every decision is final as ink is permanent.

Blue and Orange are both relatively tame overall in my opinion. The idea for the portrayal of Blue’s head came pretty quickly to me. The extra details on his face were fun to come up with, but pretty simple in execution. Then Orange is pretty derpy looking overall, which despite being fitting for me made him the least creepy looking character. I grew to love the way his face looked overtime, but he resembles an old wither puppet more so than an undead creature. He just needs a hug.

Had to try Inktober a “biiiiit” off schedule this year, despite being so far behind. I still wanted to see how much of the event I can complete in the remaining time. Thus, in spite of my better judgement, I’m going to take on this personal Catch-Up Challenge for my 2nd Inktober!

•Day 1: Bell Kirby

•Theme: Ring

As an attempt to a simple start for Inktober, I drew a version of Kirby because he is always a simple and pleasing character from me to draw. Once the idea of drawing Bell Kirby came to me, the rest of the image came naturally overtime.

I decided to not use color on this image mostly due to not having pink or yellow ink pens available. Even though this image turned out pretty nice to me, it did motivate me to try and use more color in my future drawings as an attempt to differentiate these images from the last year drawings. The next few pieces will, and will likely, be in an experimental phases of trying to balance ink colors with non-ink colors to make the art more visual interesting.

After listening to some podcasts online, I felt inclined to share this group fan art I drew of some YouTube Animation community members that I follow.

The drawing was originally made sometime in December 2018 and colored a few months later, so it was definitely used as a means for me to practice using ink and color in my art. Despite the initial intention, I still did put a lot of effort in portraying everyone accurately. I hope to try something like this again in the future with even more animation community members included.

YouTuber, JoshJepson with Video Game Characters, Banjo & Kazooie

Continuing this current “YouTuber Content Creator Fanart” kick that I have been on recently I have now drawn JoshJepson of the YouTube channel of the same name. I drew this image after the announcement of Banjo-Kazooie joining the roster of Smash Ultimate. Seeing his joyful reaction to the reveal just motivated me to draw this for him.

At the start of the image, I was not really pleased with the way it was turning out. The initial sketch and the inked version of the image just didn’t appeal to me in the same way as other images that I created previously. It may have been the different eyes on Josh that threw me off. However, I do like how well I made Josh fit in with the rest of the “cartoony” aesthetic of Banjo-Kazooie.

It wasn’t until recently that I fully completed the color of the image and added color into the background. The color definitely did help bring the whole piece together in my opinion. I have a limited selection of colors at my disposal currently, but I’m proud of the displacement of colors I was able to use in the end. I still don’t really know what color I should use to represent the shadows on yellow. The gold is alright for the moment.

Super Mario 64: Masae Vs. Jules Speedrun

Here a fan art piece of the loving rival between Student MasaeAnela and Sensei FamilyJules in regards to their multiple Super Mario 64 Speedrun races.

For this image, I tried something new by coloring in the background of the image. The background colors are meant to represent the colors of the background in the final fight with bowser. They might not be exact, but with the limited amount of color pencil variety I own, I feel like it was not too bad for a first colored background attempt.

Drawing both Jules and Masae was mildly experimental, but fun overall. Jules’ hair was a bit difficult for me to perfect, but the final look seems to help add a bit of motion to his overall pose. Masae’s hair style differs slightly from my past design for her, but I feel this is a bit more accurate...maybe.

The colors of their shirt and overall were based on Jules’ YouTube channel logo and Masae’s chibinela attire. I made her hat blue because of the color of her name on her channel’s page banner. A lot of thought went into the creation of this image, and for that reason it is one of my favorite pieces now.

Fan art drawings and rough sketches of the YouTube content creator, Lucahjin.

I’ve been having fun practicing my art through the use of making fan art for creators I enjoy, and I look forward to making more in the futures.

In the case of these drawings, designing Lucahjin was only tough when it came to portraying the hairstyle and hair color accurately. I didn’t want her long hair to be too similar to other long-haired individuals that I draw. I also didn’t have any good shading colors that I was comfortable with using to make her hair orange, so I went with red as a close substitution. Beyond those points of contention, finding and making cute and interesting poses was a really enjoyable process for me.

I heard about an OC Challenge recently that I wanted to try it. This is what I created.

Challenge Rules:

1.)Character’s Hair Color has to be your favorite color.

2.)Character’s Eye Color has to be the color of your birthstone.

3.)Character’s Clothing have to be the color of your phone case.

4.)The character gets a bow if you’re a girl or a scarf if you’re a boy.

I honestly did not intend on drawing Ms. Masae this much within the span of about a month, but drawing her has honestly helped inspire me artistically as I got to practice using pen and adding color to my pieces. Now I’m still not the best at it, but I greatly enjoy the process of coloring my work now. I mean, three out of four of the images in this post are colors, so there has to be an improvement somewhere.

All of the images on the right side of this post were inspired by events that occurred during “The Runaway Guys Colosseum 2019 Charity Marathon” that has now finished up. With the amount of artwork that was being created and posted onto other social media platforms, I wanted to join in the fun as well, although I am not as quick to create as other artists. Still, the event will be my main motive to continue making artwork in the near-future for the community I adore.
