The fact alone that Rian had Finn given to him, a character who used to be a Stormtrooper, and he didn’t make his story truly relevant, to the point that a large part of his screentime could be cut and nothing would change… Like how is this even possible? He sent him on an undercover mission in the FO and nothing came of it… how is this possible????
This is the part that upsets me the most about this movie. I don’t know how Rian could have messed things up so bad. It was probably a lot more work for him to find something for Finn to do that was separate from the main story, than it would have been to make Finn one of the main players of the story and had him right along side Rey, Kylo, and Luke. Finn’s impact to the story is basically nil, and I’m sure someone is going to make a version that cuts out the Finn and Rose scenes just to cut out the “fluff”. It really sucked watching reviews on youtube and people were like, “the movie was great but my one complaint is the stuff going on with Finn was a waste of time”. After watching the movie once I had my fill.
The other part I hate is now I can’t believe anything John says about Finn’s character in episode 9. He seemed to truly believe Finn was going to have a much greater impact in episode 8 with the whole “Finn’s not playing anymore”, but alas that wasn’t the case. I understand now that John has to say whatever he is told to as part of his contract to sell tickets, but unfortunately I can’t trust any of it since the only one who has any influence on Finn’s story is the writer/director. Its a shame.
