A daily task with seemingly no dire repercussions would prove to turn Yachi’s life around. After she had had dinner and cleaned the kitchen, emptying the trash can would be the final chore of the evening before she could settle between the blankets on her sofa and indulge in the many romcoms she had planned on binge-watching.
What could possibly intervene?
It was at that moment when the bag of trash had been dropped into the dumpster and she had opened the door to her house, that an arm snaked around her waist as a hand clamped her mouth shut. Her muscles had tensed, a primal scream muffled by the palm pressed against her lips.
‘ Not a single sound. Go inside and lock the door. ’
With bulging eyes and a racing pulse, the sound of her heartbeat trashing in her ears, Yachi had not refused to cooperate considering she still wanted to live to see the next day. Trembling in the stranger’s hold, she had moved inside and locked the door behind them. Outside, cars drove past, brakes squealing and tailpipes backfiring before the sounds diminished to quietude once again. Tears welled in the corners of her eyes; posture as rigid as ever.
Then he let go of her.
The blonde had turned away from him in an instant and backed away in quick, jerky steps and almost crumpled, refraining from sinking to the ground to retreat into a fetal position. She had expected a brute to appear in front of her, a murderer with some sort of weapon in their hand they would decapitate her with. Instead, it was a hunched male who had earned a terror-stricken glare. Brown eyes trailed from his face to scrutinize him further and settled on a tattered, bloody button-up shirt.
Perhaps she had misjudged the situation?
‘ Y-Y-Y-You’re— b-b-bleeding. ’
He was no more than a stranger, one that had barged into her home and had petrified her. Yachi had every right to deny him any consideration for the harm inflicted but she was a kindred spirit after all. Additionally, she was still too frightened to take the appropriate measures. Wounded or not, taking a chance and thus risking her life by reaching for the phone which lay on the counter in an effort to call the police seemed senseless.
. 京賢 .
He was so goddamn pissed.
Once he got back to his hideout, he was going to hunt down those responsible, and it was not going to be pretty. Someone was going to pay for this whole fiasco, and the minimum payment was going to be their miserable disposable little lives. Kyoutani growled curses as he rounded another corner, holding his bleeding stomach just as a shot hit the spot where his head had been not even a second ago.
Where the fuck were his stupid men!? Was it that hard to get rid of rioters? Why did he deal with people to begin with!? He should just blow the warehouse up. Lips curled into a grin. Now that's an idea. A noise further up caught his attention.
Some bird, taking out trash.
Oh, if that wasn't almost a metaphor for his life at the moment.
The sound of cars and people approaching the alley he had briefly hid in made him decide his next move before he had the time to think about it properly. Sure, he could have just pushed her inside and followed her, but that could have meant noise. And right now, he tried to slink under the radar of these idiots. Covering her mouth with the less bloodied hand of his, he had muffled the scream he knew would have happened.
Moving her had been easy. She was light. Small. And once the door was shut and locked, he had crouched down against the door with her still tight in his grip. His heart thundering in his chest while he listened to the goons running around, kicking a trashcan down. Since it was dark, they probably missed the small trail of blood that he'd left behind. Kyoutani grimaced, his grip uncomfortably tight on the smaller frame against him, though he soon moved one hand to reach for a knife he had on him, while still having a tight grip with his other hand over her mouth. Once the people dispersed and moved away, he let out a deep breath, and also let her go.
Her scrambling away would have been amusing in another situation, but for now he was too hurt and too tired to care. "No shit, Sherlock," he growled, voice slightly strained from the pain that was now starting to take a hold of him. There as even a smudge of blood against her door from where he had slumped down earlier, while still holding her, thanks to the gunshot wound on his back and the cut on his arm.
His injured and blood covered arm shook, and the grip on his knife loosened, the item soon dropping onto the floor. Mentally he snarled at himself for being so weak. "The fuck you starin' at? Never seen a man bleedin' before?!" he snapped next. He looked around in the dimly lit hallway, most of the light seemingly coming from the living room and, what he assumed was the kitchen. Everything... smelled... cozy. And soft.
No petrol, no smoke. No gunpowder, no death.
Kyoutani went to get up but slumped back down with a loud groan. He took a few deep breaths through his nose. Opening his eyes again, glaring at the woman in front of him.
"Gonna let a man bleed out on your threshold, huh? Cold hearted bitch. Admirable," he laughs, but regrets it soon after as his face contorted in pain for a brief moment. He felt so weak, and he hated it. Good thing his men weren’t around to see it. It would cause some talk.
nekomamalibero:
It feels like it’s been ages since they’ve been able to talk to one another like this. Life had just been so busy for the two that meeting up with one another like this felt like it would just be impossible. He was just lucky he manage to take some time off before going off to see Kyoutani. The attitude was still the same as ever. Something he didn’t mind seeing. Nothing he couldn’t handle.
Yaku’s smile widens a little more as he begins to stretch in front of the spiker. “I’m happy to hear you’ve been doing well. It’s better to hear it in person anyway then through text or phone. Even on vacation days, I’m always ready for some more training.” Where’s the fun in not challenging every amazing spiker in the country after all. “How have you been in general?” The libero position himself on the opposite side of the net as he prepares his stance.
. 京賢 .
He glanced over to Yaku from the corner of his eye as he started to stretch. Kyoutani turned his head first to look at the male, and then faced him properly. He agrees with a nod. Speaking face to face was far more nicer than over phone or through texts. Made it more... real. It was easier to pick up subtle hints of someone’s well-being. “Rest is important, though. Have you been resting properly?” his brow is arched to put more emphasis on the question. And since it had also been warm lately, “...have you remembered to drink enough water?” Kyoutani rolled his shoulders, stretching his arms and back a bit. Technically he didn’t need to, as he was all warmed up and ready to go, but didn’t hurt to do a few stretches while Yaku got ready.
“... ‘ve been good. The new team is... interesting.” He has no idea how to better describe the team. Kyoutani got along with the others surprisingly fine. Even more so with Tsukishima. “...I guess I made new... friends,” he hums, while going to pick up a ball from the basket, putting distance between him and the net next. “Koganegawa is loud, and dorky, as all hell. Tsukishima is pretty cool. The rest are less annoying than I thought they would be,” he twirls the ball in his hands, bounces it a few times. “How about you? Hopefully no one’s giving you trouble.”
Arching his brow, he silently asked if Yaku was ready. Then he tossed the ball up, took a few steps, jumped and hit it. The ball flew over the net. He had aimed at the left corner, furthest away from the libero. Boyfriend or not, it’s not like Kyoutani was going to make it easy for the other.

Yachi always derived great pleasure from the idea of hiking the meandering dirt paths that passed between sheer rock faces which offered breathtaking views she could take photos of. The birds chirping, leaves crunching underfoot replacing the sounds of stones tumbling down a steep slope as she entered the forest. The smells were what it made truly captivating, however. Though it was not the crisp air or the fragrance of pine needles and earthy moss, it was that one of ozone; fresh and sweet.
That one of his.
Their previous encounter had been brief and ever since then he had been on her mind. Despite the scent that lingered around, the blonde had never succeeded in coming across him again. Regardless of the many trees she had bumped into by accident, fate had been persistent in not allowing her the chance to meet him once more.
Until now.
Yachi had followed the faint smell and once she had commenced its pursuit, it had only grown stronger. Her trail, however, ceased when a tree trunk blocked her way, a small note attached by some tape. Curiously, she had grabbed the piece of paper and read it.
if you wanted my number, you coulda just asked
Her heart fluttered, thudding against the ribcage as a blush crept across her cheeks and tinted her ears the same rosy color. Lips firmly pressed together to conceal a broad smile that adorned her face.
The smell of ozone, though stronger than ever this time.
A gasp was emitted from her, a high-pitched squeak burrowed at the back of her throat, but which’s sound was usurped by an exciting bark that belonged to a certain Akita. Slowly, she turned around, note trembling slightly in her grip.
Oh, this is slightly embarrassing… Be cool, Yachi, be cool.
‘ O-Oh… hi… ’ An audible gulp, ‘ This— yours? ’ She waves the note around.
. 京賢 .
Kyoutani loved his hikes away from people, so the fact that some girl had suddenly latched onto him in a desperate attempt to get away from someone, had been quite the surprise in the middle of nowhere. Though he could understand the urgency, due to the location. Having locked eyes with the guy for barely a few moments, it had been evident the dude was up to no good, even if they eventually moved away while he kept the girl some company. He might look like an alpha dragged through hell and back, but he was not going to let some idiot hurt a timid little thing like her for their own pleasure.
(If Kyoutani had seeked the guy up later, and beat him to an inch of their miserable life, it was for him to know. Though, there were mentions on the news how a well known offender was barely clinging to consciousness when found by someone.)
She had smelled nice. His dog had liked her, and the bastard barely liked anyone. Kyoutani's clothes had smelled of honey and baked goods for days after. The scent lingered in his nose like an itch he couldn't get rid of. Even when he had been surrounded by other alphas in a fight ring again to work frustration of feelings he didn't understand, the scent would still somehow come to the forefront of his mind. It was slowly driving him crazy, especially when he went on another hike and the forest seemed to smell sweeter than usual.
Of her, to be exact.
Kyoutani was intrigued, but also confused. Why was the trees smelling of her? Was she fine? There weren't anything that would give off signs of distress. Just the sweet scent of her and the bark it was rubbed off on.
It became an odd little game. Their little game of tracking. Kyoutani didn't scent mark trees nearly as much as she had, but he would occasionally rub the glands on his wrists against a tree, to let her know he'd noticed.
Though, all fun comes to an end at some point, and he figured he could reward her for being so persistent. The note was really just a whim, but what he saw from where he was situated as she picked it up, it was more than a pleasant surprise. Kyoutani smirked, walking closer, leaning against a tree near by. The one short happy bark from his dog almost covering the squeak of hers. Hiro trotted over to her, nuzzling her delicate hand that soon waved the note around.
"Do you want it to be?" he asked, the unscarred brow arching slightly, the ghost of a smile curling on his lips giving her the answer to her question. Kyoutani pushed himself off the tree, and walked over to her. His height had him towering over the girl, but she didn't seem to mind it too much.
"How have you been? Any more twats trying to bug you?"
@bloedend SNARLED:
He seizes up the blond, death glare apparent on his face. 'Oy, oy, oyyy.' Tanaka sneers, face mere inches away from Kyoutani's 'What business do you have with our manager, Yachi? Watch yourself, mad dog.'
. 京賢 .
Kyoutani looked down his nose at Tanaka, eyes narrowed at the display of aggression. It irked him. More so the almost babying manner of Yachi. Kyoutani’s upper lip pulled up into a snarl, and he steps sideways, deliberately bumping his shoulder with the crow’s as he walks past him. And rather forcefully too.
“Don’t think that’s any of your goddamn business.”
@bloedend ASKED:
She fidgets nervously, bouncing on one leg to the other before coming to a standstill before him. A deep red color had settled across her cheeks, knees and shoulders trembling at the sight of him. Before giving into the urge to flee, she instead pressed onto her toes and plants a kiss onto the spot she could barely reach: just below his jaw, before yelping upon realization what she had done and turning around to scurry away.
. 京賢 .
She was a cute little thing. Slightly timid, for sure, but really cute. Her voice was pleasant to listen to, and she was smart. In addition to it all, she was kind and so, so soft. Kyoutani was almost scared of hurting her every time they held hands or he was close to her. It was silly, really.
Every time he was with her, he couldn’t help the way his shoulders relaxed or how his scowl smoothened out just a bit. His intense gaze was on her, offering Yachi nothing but all of his attention every time. And why wouldn’t he? She was interesting, and he wanted to learn more about him, even if his approach to asking her about her interests and such were a bit clumsy at best.
Today he was in for a small surprise, however. Yachi had approached him and they’d moved slightly aside. Seeing her fidget around like a shivering chihuahua had his heart flutter. It was adorable. What he hadn’t seen coming was the kiss she planted on him, just below his jaw. Eyes widened in shock, and his ears turned red, even his cheeks caught some color this time around as his brain caught fully up to what had happened.
Cute.
He’d hunt her down a bit later, and ask her out on another date.
@nekomamalibero ASKED:
"Oi Kyotani. I hope you haven't been slacking off with practice. If you need someone to receive your spikes, you have me to help out."
. 京賢 .
He scoffed, and by old habit also lifted his chin in an annoyed and standoffish manner. “I’m not. I’m doin’ perfectly fine,” he grumbles, arms crossed over his chest as he tries to be rather nonchalant about the fact that it made him happy that Yaku would be willing to help out by receiving his spikes. Besides, he had a... good team he was on nowadays. The teammates were... alright. Maybe he could should tell Yaku about that too? That’s something you do, right?
His posture changes to a more hunched over one, where he stuffs his hands in his pockets, lower lip jutted out in a pout, as he refuses to look at the libero while mumbling, “but.. if you’re offerin’, I’m not sayin’ no...” He kicks at an invisible pebble, cheeks slightly pink.
“I want to eat lunch with you.“
3rd year Kyoutani proceeds very cautiously in order to get closer to 2nd year Yachi.
