Kat is too much for most boys, but Cameron isn't a boy. He's a man. Not necessarily a good one either. But the tension and spark between them are too much for either of them to ignore.

What compelled Kuang to write THE POPPY WAR? She certainly tells her own story best:
Welcome to the Nikara Empire. It’s a messy, war-torn place. Face-stealing demons crawl through gates out of the psycho-spiritual realm to haunt battlefields, and opium pumps through the Twelve Provinces’ arteries like blood. The only permanent thing about this country is war. And war orphan Fang Runin will do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means giving up her soul to a mad and ravenous god.
When I was growing up, I couldn’t find many books about myself–my appearance, my culture, heritage, or my history–on library shelves. When I decided to become a novelist, I told myself that I was going to tell the story that I wished I’d been able to read when I was younger.
But I’ve grown a little since then, and I’m no longer interested in the bright, sanitized fairytales you tell to children. The loveliness of popular Chinese myth conceals decades, centuries, and millennia of brutal warfare. Take just the nineteenth and twentieth centuries–the Opium Wars, the Boxer Rebellion, the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the Chinese Civil War. Take the horrors of the Japanese invasion, the Great Famine, and the Cultural Revolution.
That’s the history my family survived. I wrote this for them.
This is the story of a scrappy, angry, dark-skinned, flat-tongued, southern Chinese girl in a world with no mercy. It’s dark, violent, and more than a few parts read like you’re dropping acid. Enjoy the trip.
Best,
R. F. Kuang
When I Met You - Chapter 1 (on Wattpad) https://my.w.tt/zEfDZqyefM Katherine 'Kat' Loggins is a beautiful 15 year old. Her body has matured way beyond her years and so have her relationships. She has been hurt by every boy she has gone out with. She meets Cameron, a guy who is 8 years older than her, while camping. They have an instant attraction neither can ignore or explain. Over their first week together they find out each other's secrets and scars. Cameron has his own past to deal with, including a bad reputation with women. Rumors abound about him and Kat forces him to tell her the truth. Her parents decide to let Kat explore this relationship with Cameron. Will they make it past the first week? Can their love heal them both or will she destroy him before he hurts her? This is their first week together. I plan on writing their first 3 years, as she finishes high school. Book 3 will be the next 4 years, her college years. Hopefully I can write enough for book 4 and 5. Book 4 being after college when they start having babies and book 5 being her journals, where I will publish all the naughty stories I wrote at first. There will be no underage sex in any of these books. There will be talk of sex and lots of cussing. There might also be heavy kissing and some oral sex, not sure yet.

Satan’s Sons MC series
Reaper’s Claim
I didn't know what to expect from this series even though I have read other books from Simone Elise. I knew this would be very cliche and somewhat annoying but I liked it anyways. Abby was bratty and childish but cold and unnerving at the same time. Kim drove me insane at the beginning but when the girls swapped roles I started to like her. Reaper (Kade) and Trigger are so stereotypical. I was a little annoyed at just how cliche all the bikers and the MC really were. But yeah I will totally be reading the rest of the books because I know that eventually Abby and Reaper will have closure, probably not a happy ever after but at least an ending. It was cool to see Jax and Amber again. I love their series and can't wait to see more of them here and there.
Reaper’s Rival
*Spoilers* Everyone in this book was annoying. Abby with her lying and self-loathing. Kim with her brooding and whining. Roach with his stubbornness. Reaper with his pouting and self-destruction. Trigger with his ego. But Reaper was also loving and attentive and caring, when Abby would let him. I was so upset and crying when Abby lost the first baby. And so happy when she had a healthy baby at the end. And wasn't it so kind of Jacobs to wait until she gave birth the take her. What a gentleman! I was happy to see Jax and Amber again, but seriously Amber starts a lot of shit for Abby and Kim. Overall I was less happy with this book than the first but I was happier with Reaper in this one. And Drake, poor love sick, Drake. Daniels wasn't really as bad as Damon but not right for Abby. I'm giving this one 4 stars because I like some of the characters and the general storyline.
Reaper’s Redemption
I liked the overall series even though several times the overload of cliches was just about too much. Abby made me finally like but still not love her. And Kim just made me frustrated more and like her a little more. I loved Reaper and Trigger in this one. I felt bad for Trigger. He tried to go against everything he was for Kim and she still pushed against him. Reaper experienced what no man should ever experience and came through it just a little worse off. I felt worse for Tyson than anyone. That poor kid has been through a lot in such a short period of time. The epilogue sets up Forbidden so well and I am excited for it. Ms. Elise LOVES cliches and at times I went with it but Abby's story is the same as Amber's in the Monarchy series. I was excited for Amber and Jax to be in these stories but then Amber just became a shit starter and a nuisance.
This is a cliche filled motorcycle club romance series with the typical bad boy biker and the sweet girl who goes bad but gets her guy in the end with the house and the kids. But I loved it even with all its faults. BUT I hate the covers. Good grief the girl on the last one looks like she was taken off one of those barely legal porn sites. YUCK!
Just Juliet
Lena is AMAZING
I loved Loving Lakyn so I had to read Just Juliet. This is not Juliet's story, it's Lena's. Lena takes much the same journey as Scott, although her's is less rocky. I wasn't entirely sure I was going to like Lena but I do. I also like Juliet much more now that she is clean and less self-destructive. AND OF COURSE MORE Lakyn and Scott. I love them so much. I could read so many books about them. Scott was so great to Lena and it seemed obvious to me that he and Lena would stay friends after high school. Lena and Juliet having to be apart made me sad but they both were able to grow and understand themselves better and I hope that when they met again they will have a better relationship. The wedding in the epilogue made me SO HAPPY. I could picture the whole thing and loved it. I would recommend these 2 books to anyone not just people interested in books about LGBT teens.
Loving Lakyn
Messed up Kid with Messed up Family and Friends, But I Love Him
Everybody is Messed so Deal with It. Lakyn is an abused neglected gay suicidal teen who attempts to kill himself and is them rescued/adopted by his uncle away from his abusive parents. But his uncle is still mourning his aunt and so is his out of control cousin. Then Lakyn falls in love with a popular boy who is still in the closet and spirals out of control with the help of his cousin and school bullies. But this has a happy ending. I loved Lakyn and Scott. It was obvious from the beginning that they were going to mean something to each other, even if neither knew what. Juliet on the other hand I was less than impressed with for most of the book. This isn't her story since she has her own book but we see so little of her other than the destructive part that its hard to like her. Scott, I loved, but it was obvious that his parents and social standing were going to get in the way of his relationship with Lakyn. Poor Uncle Ben and Rick, they have so many things to deal with taking care of 3 damaged teens. Uncle Ben taking in Lakyn was amazing but allowing Scott to live there until his mom came around was beyond great. Uncle Ben being blind to Juliet's problems was frustrating but I can see how her issues would get dismissed because she appeared normal. Rick giving up his independence to take care of Lakyn was also great. I couldn't imagine giving up my life to take care of someone else, but that is what family is supposed to do. I have never had any of the issues that the author tackles but the way she took them on is both engaging and insightful. The list of triggers at the beginning was annoying but I guess that is some social hand holding authors have to do now. Everyone in this book has problems and the ways they cope are not always good but that's life. We all have issues and we all deal with them. Teens are the worst at coping since they don't have the years of experience necessary, USUALLY. I hate that Lakyn does. I am glad and amazed that Reagan wrote a book about bullying and didn't use social media other than texting. So many stories today use social media just like real teens as part of the story. Overall this was not a book that I thought I would like or would normally even pick up but I loved it. The characters are likable and relate-able and there is enough good times to out way the bad ones. And just a little naughty sex. There is lots of drug use which I am not fond of but is a typical teen coping mechanism.
Being from central Texas I know lots of stories about Enchanted Rock. The most popular is the wendigo or skin walker, which is similar to a werewolf. I love this story and the change of main character from female to male. Friederike being the small town weirdo and Rain (Aaron) being the big city smart ass is the complete opposite of the usual. I like Freddie in the end but not much at the beginning. I am not a fan of 'because I said so' as an answer for weird shit. I loved Rain so much, but he moved too fast for me. I felt like going from 'she's hot' to 'lets turn me into a werewolf so we can be together' was way TOO FAST. The other characters were alright and I liked all the good guys. And of course I hated all the bad guys. I would like to see a sequel to this story since I loved the epilogue.

Check out my profile on Wattpad, I'm Kysha Plante https://www.wattpad.com/KyshaKitty?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_profile 39 year old Texan living in Florida. Fur-mom to 4 cats and 2 dogs. Married for 17 years. Prolific reader of sci-fi and romance. Blogger reviewer for Harper Voyager.
I got this eARC from Harper Voyager. It took me forever to read because I kept getting bored. The book is well written but I just couldn't keep focused on it. The humans created artificial intelligence that ended up taking over and the humans become extinct. The mainframes start fighting and trying to take over all the robots. Some find a way to stay separate and have to hide out. Brittle travels the land finding broken robots and taking their parts to trade for her own worn out parts. She has few friends and travels alone. Going from settlement to settlement she fights other robots. In the end her friends are harmed because of her and they still come back for her. Other reviews said this is a book about humanity and how we think of ourselves and others, but I see this as a political and social commentary on how we are too dependent on computers and machines. I can actually see this as a possible future. Humans are getting lazier and more likely to just let others, including machines, tell them what to do. I liked to the book. The last few chapters are really worth reading the whole book. Brittle and Mercer are enemies and then allies and it is amazing how they put aside their differences. The robots in the book have more of a human side than most humans now. Once the robots became awakened and sentient they started being better people than people. I really think this would make a good movie, but it would have to be all CGI.
I truly love this series. I got all the ARCs from Inkitt. Kaden is the big bad wolf or so everyone is taught to believe but he isn't. His mate, Mara, is from the most innocent of packs and has no idea about the world she lives in. He kidnaps her to play a piece in his brother, Coen's plan to harm Coen's fated mate who has rejected him. Mara doesn't do it and meets many other people who help her understand the world a little better. After she comes into heat she is saved by an unusual ally who may not be an ally afterall. I was a little surprised that I liked this book so much. After reading Alpha Landon I really expected to hate Kaden but in fact I loved him. He was so unlike the legend of him and so willing to do anything for his family and his mate, even kill his own brother. Mara is aggravating in her innocence but being that she is from Purity Pack it makes sense that she does not know about mating or sex. I was happy when she grew somewhat of a backbone and defended herself as best she could. This book was just as well written as Landon and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
This series has different covers for the formats, I just happen to like this cover the best.
I was given a copy of this book to read by the author. I would like to apologize to the author for it taking me so long to review. Even though this is the first book of the series it felt like a sequel. I had some questions that were not answered, like how did America fall into dystopia and how are all these men actually connected. The poor people being ruled by a few rich elite and the rich elite fighting amongst themselves seems way to familiar right now. America has dissolved into a dystopian society and a secret group is trying to change the future for the poor but first they have to get some of the rich on their side. The Fourteenth Colony has spies in all the places that rich people frequent and they gather information to be used against the rich. When one of their spies important information from the wife of a rich man and is then captured the Colony has to enlist his brother to get him back. At first there seemed to be only a few characters but as the story progressed there were almost too many to keep up with. The main character is Tom but his brother Jack is also very important. Mary and David, along with the other 14th Colony people, are side characters that I am guessing play a bigger part in the next book. The rich men who control everything are kind of hard to keep up with. They all seem bad but with a slight good purpose to what they do. Except for Warren that man is just crazy from the get go. I could easily tell he was the main bad guy. I was a little shocked at the end to find out the connection between the rich guys and the Fourteenth Colony. The story itself unfolds at a quick pace. The timeline is only a few days but so much happens that you could get lost along the way. The author does a great job of slowing the pace at some points so that the reader can catch up with the characters. The book does not end on a cliffhanger but if you need to know what the Fourteenth Colony does later then you have to read the next book. I am fine with how this book ended and due to time constraints probably will not read the next one. Overall 4 stars
I was given a copy of this book by Exclusive ARC and Inktt. Given the title I should have known it was a shifter book but it didn't dawn on me until several chapters in. I haven't read any of the other Alpha series so I was confused by some of the characters. I think these are stand alone books but having knowledge of traits or background of some of the side characters would have been nice.
This is a friends to lovers story with the usual forbidden romance thing thrown in. I like that Althea was in love with Landon when he was geeky and still loved him when he wasn't. I'm not sure that he was in love with her when he was geeky though. Him marking her came at a weird time but I can see how his Alpha newness would have his hormones going crazy, like puberty in humans.
I liked how their relationship advanced even though he was a little TOO Alpha at times. Landon was definitely not looking for another mate at any point in the story. Cyrus just seemed wrong for her from the beginning. Missy was not what I would call a best friend either. It didn’t surprise me that they betrayed her. I felt bad for Kace, even though he was bad. His logic was twisted but for someone who I might consider rogue it made sense. I think he might have his own book so maybe we get to know him more. Coen was a mystery that I think needed more information. He was her fated mate and everyone knew but Althea. That makes no sense especially since her dad was so bent on her having a proper mate. Wouldn't her fated mate be the most proper mate? If Althea has a fated mate then shouldn't Landon also? Who is she? The other Alphas are also a mystery. I am guessing you have to read all the books to know each of them. Althea being in trouble all the time seemed a little cliche also. Why was Landon always having to rescue her?
This is a good story that needs more fleshing out. There were inconsistencies in the story and many typos. I think the epilogue could have been better or just left off. The cliffhanger at the end is a big no no for me. I hate cliffhangers.
Apparently this book got a new cover once it was published. I like it better!
