I’ve always loved Fiona Apple’s cover of “All Alone” by Irving Belin. I’ve heard many renditions of this song, but I think this one does it more justice than any other because she captures the hopelessness that is at the core of longing for someone with whom you are no longer in contact. Stripping down the song to a piano and vocals intensifies the emotional impact too.
