New Friends

They called him crazy for living so isolated, but a creature his age barely noticed the passage of time. He stares out into the sky from his island and yawns, thinking about the next meal he might have. He closes his eyes and starts lazily swaying his tail in the water. This is an easy life and he definitely prefers it this way.
Unfortunately, Santiago is never lucky enough to stay unnoticed for long. He has a habit of putting his nose in other people’s business. When he opens his eyes, he sees a large creature soaring across the sky. His tail stops moving and he stares at the beast in awe. A large projectile soars behind it and Santiago knows exactly what is coming next. It’s definitely going to fall out of the sky into the sea.
The once lazy dragon rolls over with purpose and disturbs all plant life around him when he takes off. He heads straight for the falling creature. Whatever is attacking it would not get the satisfaction of seeing it die. Santiago twirls through the air before he crashes into the other dragon. Curbing his excitement for meeting another dragon for later, he twirls under it to carry it to safety on his secluded island.
His attempt to land softly fails and they crash into several trees clearing a spot that might be perfect for a human sized house. Santiago prefers to be himself, but for the dragon’s sake he needs to change to get a better look at his new friend’s injuries.
Kizzy doesn’t know how the hunters knew about her dragon form. She’d yet to reveal it to them, so how the hell did they know to get a fucking rocket launcher? She flies as fast as her massive wings will take her. She’s not built for speed, but for brute strength and it isn’t long before it literally catches her by the tail.
Spinning fast now, hurtling towards the ground, she expects to feel nothing but land soon. Instead, she’s wrapped in a cocoon of much cooler flesh. Eyes shooting open, she sees scales unlike her own. How...?
The pain doesn’t hit her until they’re on the ground and she’s crying for breath. She remains unburnt but there’s shrapnel, embedded in her tail and her hind legs. It doesn’t take long for her human skin to appear, the dragon receding into her body for safety. She trembles on the grass, naked and covered in sweat. The bottom half of her body is a bloody mess, soaking the ground beneath them.
