( rei )
“You too; I know you from the papers, of course, but it’s nice to meet you face-to-face.” Settling into a chair, Rei didn’t waste any time launching into the true topic of their meeting.
“Altering the nature of the United Republic seems a dangerous proposition–if for no other reason, then because people are so divided on the issue. On one side, people think it’s a practical move, governing Earth States which have been struggling to govern themselves since the dissolution of the Kingdom. But personally, being from the Fire Nation–I feel hesitant to support any move in the direction of empire building, and that’s what it feels like, no matter what the intention may be.”
She sighed, rubbing her forehead with her fingertips as if warding off a headache.
“What do you think?”
As Rei spoke, Lin listened patiently, considering all the woman said. Much of what was being said echoed the thoughts Lin had on the matter. However, she took her time in responding. While she is not and never will be a politician, she’s learned the value of watching her words over the years. When the matter was as sensitive as this, Lin simply couldn’t afford to be careless.
“There is no EASY solution, but I don’t believe that this is the right one. What the president seems to be conveniently forgetting is that, at the end of the day, the individuals within all our states will carry out his orders, his wishes, and his legislation. At the end of the day, when riots spring up and protests become violent, it’s the innocent lives of civilians that are put at risk.”
She sighed softly.
“Many in the Earth Kingdom were brought together under Kuvira -- as I’m sure you know -- unwillingly. While the president may have good intentions, that doesn’t mean much to the civilians in those areas. Raiko is asking for a change that the world simply isn’t ready for yet. Personally, I don’t believe that he should be the one attempting to unite the Earth Kingdom. They don’t take well to outsiders. At least, if nothing else, Kuvira was one of them.”
Lin’s frowned. “There’s a saying -- no good dead goes unpunished. I have to wonder what ‘ punishments ‘ President Raiko will be facing for his actions.”

Just as a reminder, I will be MOVING BLOGS. This is where I’ll be reblogging my replies ( although tbh it still needs to be set up ). Anyways! I’d really appreciate it if you followed me there.
so lin’s become more of a muse than i thought she was + i want to add some more ATLA/LOK. for that reason, over the next few days i’ll be moving my threads / blog to a main account shortly . feel free to go ahead and follow if you’re interested in migrating over there. since this is connected to my other main blog i’ll still be checking notes regularly as well as responding to messages.
@rxsilixnt ||➹ from now on we will be using code names ||➹ lin edition
how about them single parent!au's??
im on the bus and my 2-year-old won’t stop crying, except you just smiled at them and they did
i asked you to babysit one time and now my child keeps asking when you will spend time with them again
you asked me to the store with you and your child, and now my distant relative we met thinks im married with a baby
we are friends and my child’s first word was your name and im jealous but also kind of endeared
you’ve been sleeping at mine because your house is being renovated and we aren’t even dating, yet every time you wake up to the baby crying and sigh, “i’ll go” i feel like we might as well be married
we’ve been on a few dates and my child just asked us when we are getting married
our children are in the same class and we both hate their teacher, eventually the parents’ evenings are just us competing who can call out snarkier comments
we are the only two parents who agreed to attend the school trip (bonus: “so i guess we share this hotel room?”)
our children are best friends….yeah
“i’m so sorry that my child pointed out how your shirt- actually nevermind i agree, that shirt is horrendous”
you crouched down to coo at my baby but i forgot to tell you their favorite thing to do is to play with people’s hair and now they won’t let go of you

Movements graceful, his back and posture perfect. His eyes a burning ember of gold that slowly begins to glow brighter.
“I’m sure I would like to know the specifics officer, or is vagueness a new requirement for the police force.”
Lin stiffened slightly, hands relaxed as she prepared for a fight. No way would she let this SCUM get away again.
Her eyes narrowed. “Murder. Organized crime. Fraud. Theft. -- Those are just the major ones.”

( kya )
There was unrest and Kya had gone in search of the core reasons to why. Something had called to her one evening during sleep and it had interrupted her concentration ever since. A strong pang almost like a warning and she took heed of it. Family was family and it was a lesson she had finally learned and took to heart. From the instinctual warning through what she could sense, she explained she needed to go to Republic City and left her mother in the hands of people she could trust.
The healer traveled a long way via ship and eventually appeared in the city that used to be her home. It had changed and she could smell it in the air. Fire was burning in some locations and the smoke wafted over the waters. It brought her a feeling of worry but also of things to come. Whatever was wrong was going to get worse before it got better. She walked carefully and kept her bending to herself when it sunk in to just who was causing the chaos.
Eventually she entered the bunker when a few older people recognized who she was. She slipped around and went to work on others more than herself. Those that needed calmness from soothing hands to rest, or those with serious injuries from fighting people with strong precision. Kya continued her healer’s work until a hand gently grasped her arm. She drew back from healing a young girl to see an old friend. Lin’s voice was tired from what she could hear and she was concerned for her.
“I just arrived not too long ago and I’ve been doing work as best as I can to help. I don’t know exactly what is going on but call it instincts that made me come here. I felt something was off but it’s hard to explain. More like a sensation of something being wrong like you would get with your work I imagine. It’s the best way I can describe it.”
Drawing back, she stepped in a bit closer to Lin to look her over. The bags were noticeable as well as the lingering feel of her hand on her. Tension was high in her but something else was there as well. Something behind the green eyes she knew quite well as friends.
“What’s happening here, Lin? Most importantly, are you okay?”
Lin withdrew her hand, crossing her arms across her chest, hip cocked just slightly to the left. “Well, you weren’t wrong. Things, as you can see, have fallen to shit.” She sighed softly and glanced away, a scowl tugging on her features as her jaw tightened. It was difficult to confess, to admit that no, she isn’t o k a y.
She decided to do what she always did -- focus on the facts, on what’s comprehensible before even considering delving into her own emotions.
“There’s an extremist -- Amon -- who’s discovered a way to take away people’s bending.” Lin swallowed thickly, glancing around at those around them. It was likely that may of these people had gone through exactly what she had. The hot flash of her body turning against her, disobeying her commands as she screamed at it to stop. Lin could only HOPE now that it hadn’t been for nothing. She could only hope that Tenzin and his family had gotten away safely.
“We were forced to scatter. I-” her voice dropped and she glanced around again. “We shouldn’t have this conversation here.” It wouldn’t do good if word got out that the Avatar was quite possibly missing -- maybe even taken. No, if they were going to discus it, they needed to do so privately. In addition to that, Lin wasn’t exactly eager to admit her shortcomings in such a public place.

Lin hadn’t been intending to stare, something about the man just felt familiar. She couldn’t quite place it though.
“Have we met before?”

“Is this seat taken?”
“So you have the hots for the bartender?”
“Are you a tourist, you don’t seem to be from around here.”
“Was that joke supposed to be funny?”
“Well this bar is a riot, isn’t it?”
“Did you just touch my thigh?”
“Sorry, I just touched your thigh. Yeah I’m not sorry.”
“Are you a cop?”
“Don’t hit on me, I’m in a bad mood.”
“This is the perfect end to a horrible weekend”
“Let me just say, -you are the most beautiful man/woman in this bar.”
“So, do you have the stuff? I have the money.”
“Hey, you look like a friend of mine. Are you?”
“Can I buy you a drink?”
“Please don’t buy me a drink.”
“So everyone hit on you tonight, huh?”
“It’s about believing, keep your hopes up.”
“Your friends abandoned you?”
“So who broke your heart?”
“I can’t stand this song, it reminds me of someone.”
“Well you look more miserable than I do. High five?”
“She’s not showing up, right?”
“Let’s fight, my fist is dying to meet yours.”
“Nice outfit. Going to a fancy dress party or?”
“Can I borrow your phone?”
“Please don’t involve me in whatever shady plot you’re mixed up in.”
“Does this bar serve food at 2 am?”
“You don’t happen to have a spare sofa for me to borow tonight?”
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“The world is coming to an end, let’s fuck tonight.”
“I’m waiting for someone, but thanks.”
“You’re too pretty to be straight.”
“I’m not gay.”
“Can I take a picture of you? I’m such a great fan.”
“I have to pee but I’m too drunk to move. “
“Was that an insult?”
“I just got dumped.”

A bored glance given to the officer, his dinner was now ruined thanks to her. Silverware put back into place as he adjusts his posture.
“And what is the accusation this time.”
Hmm maybe he missed someone.
“What isn’t there an accusation for?” She shot back, her patience wearing thin. There had been an informant who’d given them piles and piles of evidece against the man.
Lin wasn’t going to let him slip through her fingers again.
“I’m sure you’d rather come with grace and dignity over a humiliating defeat.”

@rxsilixnt
Rei generally didn’t enjoy mixing with the police. It usually meant meant she was either the victim of a crime, or being accused of one. Both were a colossal waste of her time.
This was different. Lin Beifong seemed a fair, level-headed leader, the few times Rei had met her. That was exactly the type of person whose opinion she needed. She was shown to the back of the station, where the Chief’s office was, and sat in a small waiting room which was clearly not intended for the criminal element of the city. It almost felt like an office building…kind of…almost. Not really. Hands thrust into the pockets of her best overcoat, Rei tried not to fidget as she waited to be shown into the office.
As chief of police, Lin’s days were often filled with meetings and things that begged for her attention. Since the annexing, her list of things to do had only grown. Meeting with people in private audiences wasn’t exactly high on her priority list, but she’d made an exception for Rei. The woman had influence, and as Lin was sure, a valuable opinion on the recent legislation. When the appointed time rolled around, Lin stood, stretching slightly before going to her office door.
She saw Rei, and she beckoned her in. “Thank you for your patience. I apologize for the mess.” Lin closed the door behind her guest, moving around to sit back in her desk chair. “Sit, please.” Once Rei looked comfortable, Lin launched into business. “I trust you’re here about President Raiko’s new... decisions? I feel that’s all I’ve been hearing about lately.” She gestured to the paperwork with a tired sigh.
She seemed to remember her manners, and she bowed her head slightly. “Pleasure to finally meet you.”
