Daeron the Daring & Princess Jaehaera
when you're writing THE most feminist show of all times called house of the dragon and because you're such a feminist your two main characters are women BUT in the original book they're supposed to be enemies and that's like NOT feminist and progressive at all, so of course you'll right the wrongs and make the "BAD" woman see the error of her way and join team women. BUT in order to do that you have to make the BAD woman NOT be a political player for HER OWN TEAM so you really have nothing to do with her character. instead of just giving her LESS screentime as a LESS feminist showrunner might do, you decide to add unnecessary SA scenes EVERY fucking episode.
Dudebros acting like rukia fans want to see her solo yhwach when we just want to see her be treated like the important character she is. This current fandom loves to downplay her significance not just to ichigo but to the storyline in general while ignoring the fact that:
- She was the first character created
- She was the og protagonist of snipe
- Ichigo's character design was changed to match hers and Kubo said that it feels wrong to draw ichigo without rukia.
- she was called the fixed heroine and the shinigami protagonist
- Kubo chose to feature both of them on the cover of the final volume, making it the only volume with two characters AND singled out ichigo and rukia in the thank you note of that volume.
They are the two main characters like it or not. Even og IH shippers understood that she was a main character, hence all the merch and art, and that ichigo and rukia's bond was central to the story even if they didn't consider it romantic. Calling her a side character and failing to understand why people are upset by her treatment in the last arc in light of Urahara's last words is at best poor understanding of narrative devices and storytelling and at worst willful blindness.
Someone legit told me that Urahara's final words aren't that deep and that he only singled them out because they are the closest to him which a) is completely incorrect, they are not the closest characters to him like where did that even come from?? hello yoruichi and b) shows piss poor understanding of foreshadowing and narrative significance. Characters words and actions have meaning and serve to move the storyline along, especially a character's final words.
Dudebros acting like hur hur rukia fans think the entire series is about her. I know it is difficult but can you use your singular brain cell for a minute and understand that from a narrative pov, Rukia should have been involved in the final battle. Effing ganju played a role and his importance to the overall storyline pales in comparison to Rukia.
I will never know why Kubo decided to shaft his most popular female character and deuteragonist but it's piss poor writing. But what can I expect from a fandom of bootlickers who can't even acknowledge the misogyny in his writing.

re4r but they get more downtime (and ashley gets a gun)
Since I hear the new version of the Bleach anime is coming to an end, just a reminder that the ending of Bleach is a horror story in terms of characterization, where every single main character gets an ending that's the exact opposite of what their character would have wanted.
Chad: One of the first things we learn about him is that he made a vow he would only ever use his great strength to defend the people he cares about because he was taught to abhor violence.
His ending: He becomes a professional fighter, beating people up for money.
Ishida: Before he was able to make friends with the group, he'd gone from a sweet kid to a loner with an emotionally negligent father who prioritized his medical career over his grieving son.
His ending: He becomes a doctor, at what looks to be the same hospital as his father, whose career has isolated him from having time with his friends.
Orihime: She's a smart girl who was almost at the top of her class and had so many dreams for what she wanted to do in the future (teacher, open a bakery, etc.) that she wished she had multiple lifetimes to do it all.
Her ending: Not only is her job doing all the household chores and taking care of the kid she had at 21, she didn't even get to go to college.
Ichigo and Rukia: Even if you go by "Ichigo and Rukia weren't meant to be romantic, they're just best friends and that's okay!", the ending is just awful for that too, and for their respective romantic partners. Ichigo and Rukia haven't interacted with each other in so long that their children (who look to be between 6-9 years old) don't even know of each other's existence in the epilogue. And both Ichigo/Orihime and Rukia/Renji wind up being bad parents! Ichihime don't know that their very young son's going out and doing demonic rituals at night, and RenRuki don't know where their daughter is 95% of the time either.
It was truly one of the worst, maybe even the single worst, endings I've ever seen a piece of media have.

Adult Grief
by Louise Glück
Because you were foolish enough to love one place, now you are homeless, an orphan in a succession of shelters. You did not prepare yourself sufficiently. Before your eyes, two people were becoming old; I could have told you two deaths were coming. There has never been a parent kept alive by a child's love.
Now, of course, it's too late -- you were trapped in the romance of fidelity. You kept going back, clinging to two people you hardly recognized after what they'd endured.
If once you could have saved yourself, now that time's past: you were obstinate, pathetically blind to change. Now you have nothing: for you, home is a cemetery. I've seen you press your face against the granite markers -- you are the lichen, trying to grow there. But you will not grow, you will not let yourself obliterate anything.
