saw a post on bluesky about reimagining The Iliad as a mecha war and that idea goes unbelievably hard. achilles in his legally distinct gundam cutting through dozens of enemy suits. aggamemnon in his gold-plated mech. paris using a long range sniper rifle to exploit a design flaw in achilles' armor. the gods are all various megacorps who have a stake in the war bc it'll impact their profits.

He’s the anime version of Walter White, he didn’t just grab a sled, he crashed a race car down that slope the second it came into view.

Death Note wasn’t a story about power corrupting mortals, it was a story about an absolute lunatic chimpanzee of a man who got that button you can press to kill someone for a million dollars and never get caught, and decided, even though he never got the money and someone very definitely did die, to just mash that thing at terminal velocity like he was playing a Mario Party minigame for keeps.

...yeah, except, not quite. It's true that Light had thoughts like 'the world needs to be cleansed from evil' since episode one. But what characters like Matsuda later show, is that many people have theses thoughts, but at the same time never consider acting on them. When Light tried the death note out of curiosity for the first time, he was shocked by the realisation he had killed a man, even though that man was the kind of person Light wanted to free this world from. The problem started escalating quick when Light decided the only way to deal with this guilt was by killing more people. Just listen to the convoluted mental gymnastics he went through when explaining Ryuk his motives.

Amnesiac Light showed how he would have turned out without the death note. Not as a perfect person, but one trying to do the right thing, regardless of the bleak worldview he had at times.
