More proof that Jimmy is mentally ill( probably had BPD) for the people who think he’s just simply an evil mastermind.
Jimmy walked out the cockpit and then sat down in this position. Not only does he’s having a panic attack(when Curly is screaming at him, Jimmy doesn’t respond or even look at him. He just keeps shaking his head while holding his head with hands), but the fact that you think he would stay in the cockpit and lock it to make sure Curly shouldn’t get inside and redirect the ship.
That means he redirected the ship towards an asteroid, took off the autopilot feature that would make the ship automatically move out the way of an obstacle, immediately he realized what he was doing, and gets so anxious that he leaves the cockpit to have a panic attack.
They crashed because Curly had to run all the way from wherever he is to the cockpit so he didn’t have enough time to properly steer it away; all he was able to do was somehow prevent the ship from crashing so hard onto the asteroid that the whole ship would blow up. But Jimmy had more time to maneuver the ship out the way.
Jimmy didnt try to prevent Curly from going in the cockpit to save them all nor was he paying any attention to him.
I’m not excusing what he did or justifying it, but I have the ability to see that he immediately regretted his decision and is mentally ill. When he was talking to Curly and hinting on it, he appears to be completely ready for death and to end 4 lives in one go. But when he does actually does it, he’s not gloating about how he’s going to get away with sexual assault and how he’s happy everyone will die because he hates them all. No instead he looks like he’s having a panic attack.
Not only does this show that Jimmy struggles with impulse control( one of the symptoms of BPD), but also that he appears to struggle with emotional regulation.
Couldn’t calm himself down to pilot the ship and he got overwhelmed and scared.
jimmy later says that the crash was an accident and cause they(specifically he) was trapped.
He realized he didn’t want the ship to crash but he also couldn’t see the reason to keep on living. Plus, he would be questioned on what he did and punished. I think it was a combination of getting too panicky to pilot the ship and being overwhelmed to make any kind of decision because he didn’t know what to do.
Which is why I think he called it an accident. Not just cause he’s too cowardly to admit that it was intentional( even if it was for a short time), butbecause he felt like it was an accident since he wasn’t in his right state of mind when he made that decision.
He makes impulsive horrible decisions when he’s too stressed out. Honestly, I think he was planning on using the gun on himself but Anya hid the gun so he couldn’t do that anymore.
He should’ve thought about what he was planning on doing way longer so he could realize that crashing the ship would make things worser not better.
