it's kinda weird being an intersex trans woman on this site for a number of reasons but in particular there is SO much white-knighting for "afab trans women" that paints denying that that makes any sense at all as intersexist. Like, I'm an intersex trans woman you fucking melt. what makes me a trans woman isn't the amount of shaving I have to do, it's the fact that there was an M on my birth cerificate when there shouldn't have been, and it's affected me all my life! Only one of us would be sent to rot in a men's prison and it's not you! If my hormone deficiency had been discovered before I was 18 I would have been forced to take testosterone! Sex is not real and physical traits do not determine your trans status!

the amount of stress that the monogamous people in my life have about dating is fuckin insane to me. like... the dangling sword of "i want to find a Permanent Exclusive Long Term Sex Romance Partner" seems to hang over every interaction once they cross the boundary of "just friends". like ohh i want to find my Soulmate but i dont wanna rush it but the clock is ticking. meeting strangers for a date and the entire interaction is colored by "do i want this person to be my sole source of Sex And Romance?". at what point are we exclusive? what counts as cheating? youre the only person i love so if i want sex or i need attention or to vent it has to be you or ill freak out.

One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

You must understand that perfectionism isn’t striving for excellence, it’s a crippling fear of being flawed and therefore worth abandonment or punishment. It’s a kind of psychological avoidance. You’re avoiding fear and failure , not embracing the thing you want to do bc if it was about the thing you want to do you’d be fine with partial victory.
It's seriously fucked up that there's no way to speak frankly with a professional about suicidal thoughts without the looming threat of involuntary institutionalization and, by extension, psychiatric abuse. How, exactly, are suicidal people supposed to be aided in not feeling suicidal if they aren't allowed to safely express it through what are supposed to be the appropriate channels?

9 Facts About Dysautonomia

Dysautonomia is pronounced dis’-oughta-know’-me-uh. Dysautonomia is a group of neurological conditions that impact over 70 million people around the world.
Dysautonomia means “dysfunction” of the “autonomic nervous system.” The autonomic nervous system controls all of your involuntary bodily functions like your heart rate, breathing, maintaining proper blood pressure, digestion, sleep cycles, body temperature control, sweating and more.
There are many different types of dysautonomia, including, but not limited to, neurocardiogenic syncope, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, inappropriate sinus tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension, autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy, pure autonomic failure, and multiple system atrophy.
Dysautonomia can also occur secondary to other diseases. Diseases that commonly cause autonomic nervous system dysfunction include all types of diabetes, Sjögren’s syndrome, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s.
Due to the malfunctioning of the autonomic nervous system in people with dysautonomia, symptoms can include tachycardia (a heart rate that is too fast), bradycardia (a heart rate that is too slow), poor blood flow to the heart, brain and other organs, chest pains, lightheadedness, fainting, nausea, a gastrointestinal tract that moves too fast or too slow, blood pooling in the extremities, shaking, too much or too little sweating, cognitive impairments (“brain fog”), headches, and much more.
Some, but not all, dysautonomia symptoms can be minimized by laying the patient down. This helps restore normal blood flow to the brain and chest area. This is why it can be so difficult for dysautonomia patients to stand sometimes.
Dysautonomia comes with a wide range of disability – from mild, to very disabling, to death in rare cases. While some dysautonomia patients can continue with work, school and social activities, many cannot, even with the best treatment currently available.
Some dysautonomia patients will get better over time, by either learning to manage their symptoms better, or by actually recovering from the illness. However, some remain sick with dysautonomia indefinitely, and some progressively get worse.
Many dysautonomia patients experience years of diagnostic delay, and have difficulty finding physicians to treat their dysautonomia once they are diagnosed, because most doctors have not received training on how to diagnose and treat autonomic nervous system disorders.

sometimes "but you don't look disabled" is not even about the visibility of your disability. sometimes it's about "you look like an actual person and i picture disabled people as some weird creatures that i can never ever meet and now my reality is crashed by the fact that i see an actual disabled person and they look like a person."
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
