Feelings
Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black (Although Sirius isn’t in this fic)
Word Count: 1.2k
Summary: A short story in which Remus realises he has feelings for Sirius.
~
Despite it being his responsibility, James was late. With an upcoming game against Ravenclaw, James thought it best to call an impromptu team meeting for one last practice. Which he was currently late to. Shit. As he raced up the stairs to the dorms, a shrill voice in his head that bore an unnatural resemblance to Marlene hurried him along. He crashed through the doorway, racing to his trunk to grab his gear.
“Quite the entrance as usual Prongs.” James nearly jumped out of his skin, turning to see Remus reading on his bed. “Merlin Moony, please stop doing that.” He turned back to his trunk, digging around for his helmet and gloves. He gave up and grabbed his jersey, stuffing it in his quidditch bag. Remus sat quietly, watching him. James got back up, and turned around to face Remus. “No sarcastic comeback Moony? Did I enter an alternate reality?” Remus didn’t answer him again, opening his book and staring blankly at the pages. James put down his quidditch bag, forgetting his rush.
“You alright mate?” He didn’t answer. In fact it had seemed as though Remus hadn’t heard him. James put down his bag, taking a step forward. “Moony?” His eyes seemed to refocus and take in his surroundings, “Oh, um.. No?” James snorted. “So you’re not Moony? Have you seen him then? ‘Bout this tall, a real wanker.” he chuckled. “You’re an idiot, you know that?” There was a pause while James waited for Remus to look at him. When he didn’t, James sat softly beside Remus, scared to move too quickly.
“You’re sure you’re alright?” Remus turned his attention away from James, looking at his hands. “Of course, why would I not be?” He wouldn’t meet James’ eyes. “Moons, you only talk formally when you’re worried. What is it?” He sighed.
“It’s just… I’m worried about Sirius, he’s been acting weird. Or I just keep noticing things.”
“What?” Last he checked, Sirius was still the same idiot he always was, happier even, now that he was free.
Remus shuffled to the end of his bed, his ankles hitting painfully off the bed frame.
“Haven’t you noticed? I’m not sure what it is, but I swear something’s up. He’s louder than normal, and I’m sure he’s up to something, that git.” He stood up and started pacing the room, bunching the ends of his sweater.
“Moons, I’m not sure-”
“And he has this look in his eye! When he looks at the fireplace, and the sky. When he’s flying it’s like… Merlin I don’t know but don’t you think he’s been acting strange?” Nothing of what Remus was describing made sense to James. James got off the bed and walked over to Remus. “What.. Why does this matter?” Remus pushed past him, towards the door.
“You don’t get it!” James panicked, if Remus left now there’s no way he could get him to open up again.
“Then explain it to me!” A hint of desperation catching in his voice. Remus paused, hand resting on the door knob. He didn’t turn around, but he stayed.
He sighed. “Well… What do you see when you see him then, Prongs?” James hadn’t really thought about it before. Sirius was his brother, regardless of his stupid family. “He’s… He’s a right git I’ll tell you that.” Remus snorted as James continued, fiddling with his hands. “He’s definitely not Sirius without that head of his, both hair and brains. Although I suspect he’s missing the latter.” Remus throw a shoe at his head, James barely dodging with a stupid smile on his face. “Seriously, Prongs. NO don’t make that a pun. What do you see?” James leaned against his bed frame. “I guess, I see a big softie with a touch for the dramatics? If you ever repeat this I WILL steal your chocolate, but he’s smarter than he lets on, ‘suppose.” Remus turned towards their dorm window, wrapping his arms around himself. “Guess that makes sense. Shit Prongs, I sound like an idiot now. Sorry.”
“Please Moons, if you’re an idiot there’s no hope for the rest of us. Seriously though, don’t throw another shoe at my head I swear, maybe you’re right and something is wrong? How do you see Sirius?” He paused. “I think you’re right about the hair thing, and I remember he always sweeps it out of his eyes as he reads. Should get a haircut, idiot. He always has this really warm look in his eyes as he watches the fireplace. And while I know he doesn’t try to, he lifts his pinky when he drinks tea.” A fond expression passed over Remus’ face as he talked, gazing out the window into the field. It reminded him of something, but he couldn’t place it. “And he has this little dimple when he laughs.” Remus chuckled, and it dawned on James that Remus looked exactly like Marlene when she was with Dorcas. Did… He stood up and walked over to Remus.
“Those all sound like good things, mate. What makes you think something’s wrong?” Remus’s eyebrows knit together. “I.. dunno. It was just things I kept noticing and it made me feel weird about it, so I figured something was wrong.”
Here it was. James hesitated. "Do you like him?"
"Course I do James, it's Sirius."
"No like, do you.. fancy him?"
Remus spun around to face him. “What?!” The tension in the air thickened, the conversation ready to go south. James put up his hands in retreat. “It’s not bad if you do!! It’s just.. The way you describe him, Moons, you sound like Marlene.” He opened his mouth to argue, hands balled into fits. But nothing happened. His shoulders slowly fell as something new crossed his face. “Fuck.” He pulled at his hair, leaving his hands there. “Moony?” Remus turned away from him. He moved towards Remus. James said softly, “Moony, it’s okay you know? No one will bother you about it, and if they do I’ll sock ‘em.” Remus didn’t say anything, remaining perfectly still. “Remus?”
James placed a hand on his shoulder, and he tensed at the touch. Carefully, James stepped forward to face Remus. He frantically rubbed at his eyes, lip trembling. “Oh Remus.” James' eyes softened, bringing Remus into a hug. He sniffled, new tears falling down his face.
The room darkened as they stood there, clouds moving in front of the sun. After what felt like an eternity, Remus wrapped his arms around James, hugging back. He sighed. “I just… you’re right, shit. I can’t- I don’t know what to do.” James hugged him tighter. “It’s okay Moons, we’ll figure something out, always do. Although, you’ll never want to spend time with dear old Prongs once you're off snogging.” James pouted, wiping away a fake tear. Remus pushed back laughing. “Oh, sod off.” James chuckled, grabbing his gear and heading to the door. “Right. I’m here though if you want to talk though, you know that?” Remus sat back on his bed. “Mm. And James? This is between us right?” James nodded. “’Course Moony.” He grabbed the door knob, placing his other hand on his heart. “They grow up so fast.” Closing the door as a book flew towards his head.
*If harry grew up in the 2000s* Head canon that when Harry was young James liked the kids movies they watched more than Harry did. Anytime Harry sat down to watch Shrek, Cars, or the Incredibles James rushed in because he had the intros memorised for each. It one day gets to a point where he doesn't care about watching them alone, and Lily teases him about it for the rest of their lives.
*Everyone passed out after the party*

Small Lily head canons for her birthday:
- Used to really hate her birthdays until she had friends to spend it with
- Always asks for school supplies
- Best part of her birthday is the letter her parents send her
- Sometimes Petunia will send her a letter and it’s the highlight of the month
- Prefers brownies over birthday cake
I don’t care if this is an overused trope: Remus running a second hand book store, Sirius running a tattoo parlour next door.
James Potter would’ve loved Andrew Garfield rip
The marauders era characters as music genres:
James: Disco (and everyone hates him for blasting it)
Sirius: Grunge/Electronic
Remus: Classic Rock
Dorcas: Indie
Marlene: Pop
Lily: Bedroom pop
Mary: Hip Hop
Peter: Easy Listening
Regulus: Punk Rock (let's be honest here)
Marlene has never lived in a world without Dorcas, born a day before her. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS INFORMATION

Under the Stars
Part Two
Pairing: James Potter/Regulus Black

~
The next day was dreadful, even for a Monday. With every step he walked with James he was sure some big, horrible surprise would pop up. Maybe the statues or paintings would sing, or paper hearts would rain from the sky. He shuddered at the thought. But to his surprise, they made it to the great hall for breakfast without the world ending. They even made it through breakfast with no interruptions. Odd. Regulus started to get concerned when he finished his classes for the day, and nothing happened.
Did James maybe forget? And why would it matter if he did, it’s not like Reg was expecting anything, right? They’d made it through dinner with an odd silence, James not even cracking a food related pun. James finished picking at his meal (another odd detail) and said goodbye to his friends, grabbing Regulus by the hand and leading him out of the great hall.
Regulus asked where they were going, but James would only tell him it was a surprise. It took a few minutes, but Regulus realised where they were going. The Room of Requirements. They stopped and stared at the door for a moment, before James told him to close his eyes.
“Ladies first~” James said in a singsong voice, Regulus kicking him in the shins in return. Despite that, Regulus walked into the room with his eyes closed.
When he walked in the room, the air changed immediately. The air was crisp, but not cold, and the room felt cosy. He heard the door close behind them, and James told him to open his eyes. He gasped; the room was beautiful.
It was in some ways like the astronomy tower, with a dome roof. The room, however, was much smaller, and strewn with cushions and pillows. Regulus let out another gasp as he stared at the ceiling. It seemed to be enchanted like the ceiling in the great hall, but instead of the snowy view that was provided there, here, all he could see were stars.
“Come sit.” James said, sitting down on one of the cushions in the middle of the small room. Regulus did so, and started to name some of the constellations. Orion and the Cansis Major were right in front of him, and when he turned he could see Cassiopeia high in the sky.
“James this is…” He turned to look at James to find him looking at him.
“You said you hated grand gestures, so I made something private so you don’t have to worry. It’s like your own viewing of the sky! Is… is this okay?”
“Yes, yes! This is amazing, James! I….” Regulus trailed off, aware of the jumper beside him in his bag.
“Wait, I got something for you too. Well, I made it. A-and if you don’t like it that’s fine! I’ve never made something like it before and-”
“Hey,” James said softly. “I’ll love it no matter what.” So before Regulus could doubt himself again, he pulled the jumper out from the bottom of his bag, and handed it to James, looking anywhere but him. He felt as though he’d shrivel up and die if he saw the disgust in James’ eyes.
“This is… And there’s little stars on it! Reg, did you make this?!”
“Yeah but-”
“I love it. I love it so much, and it means so much that you made me this.” Now Regulus was confused.
“But Lily makes you clothes all the time?” James sighed.
“Yeah, but Lily’s… Lily. And I love her for that, of course, but you’re… you? Merlin I’m not making any sense am I.” While that was true, Regulus understood, just the slightest bit.
“No, I think I get it… And thanks, for saying that and well,” Regulus gestured to the room. “For this.” Regulus didn’t realise until James looked at him, but he was smiling.
James laughed. “Well I guess I am pretty amazing, huh Love?” Regulus snorted. “You're an idiot, James Potter.”
“If I’m not mistaken I’m your idiot, Regulus Black.” He said with a stupid smile, spacing out the syllables in his name.
Regulus rolled his eyes, sighing contently, scooting closer to James under the star-covered ceiling.
“Yes James, you are.” James kissed his cheek. “Happy Valentine's day Love.”
“Happy Valentine’s day James.”
Under the Stars
Part 1.
Pairing: Jegulus
Word Count: 760
Summary: Regulus wants to make something for James for Valentine’s Day.
~
“So you hold the needle like this, vertically. And then when you go to loop the yarn you kind of do a circular motion. Am I making any sense?” Lily said, looking up from the demo she was currently doing. What she was saying was very straightforward, and yet Regulus found it very hard to follow.
“Not really? Merlin, I don’t know if this will work. Maybe you could make him a jumper and I’ll pretend I made it?” Regulus whined. It was his idea in the first place to crochet something for James, but it was a lot harder than he imagined. James loved the stuff Lily’s made for him, and Valentine's day was coming up, he had to do something for his boyfriend. Knowing James he’d go all out, against Regulus’ request for no PDA.
“I’m sure you’ll get it soon Reg! It took me a while to crochet like I do know, and I have faith you can as well. It’s mid January, so you have a good few weeks to make it for him. And I can help with the dimensions and templates, as it’s a lot harder. I’ll start again.” And she did that thing she always did with Reg, reassuring him. When James properly introduced Regulus to his friends, he imagined it would go horribly. Maybe they’d expect him to be like Sirius, or like his family. They were surprisingly welcome though, and in no time he was initiated into the group. Remus would argue with him over classics, Peter talked about classes and Marlene and James would talk quidditch with him. And he became very good friends with Lily, to his surprise. He knew James had harbored feelings for her at some point, and he figured it would be awkward, and yet there was never a cold silence.
So now here he sat alongside Lily in the library, figuring James wouldn’t go there, to learn how to crochet a jumper. Which was utter madness. He swore he was doing the same motions as Lily, and yet he couldn’t even form a row.
“Aghh, how do you do this for so long? I’m losing my mind even watching you do it.” Lily just chuckled in response.
“I’ve been doing this for years, it’s second nature at this point Reg. And if you don’t want to do this for him, which is really sweet I must say, just give him something else. He’s really not picky.” But Lily knew she couldn’t talk Regulus out of it. So they sat together for what felt like forever, until Regulus could form some rows. The look on his face after starting a new one was one that could pary the light of his star. It was almost impossible not to share this joy with James, as they ate their dinner together that night.
Every weekend Lily and Regulus would get together to work on the jumper. He would practice his crocheting during the week, then plan and start the jumper with Lily. They’re very hard to crochet for a beginner, she’d say, but Regulus was committed. It took weeks, a lot of yarn and a lot of agony, but it was done the weekend before Valentine's Day.
“You finished it! That’s amazing Reg! And look at the stitches! How did you get them so neat around the shoulders?” Lily gasped in amazement. The jumper was a nice royal blue. Regulus thought it would be nice since he didn’t normally wear that colour, and it brought out his eyes. The yarn used was small, which made room for details around the neckline, little pale stars Lily wove in. What’s left now was to actually give it to him.
“But how do I do it, Lils? What he really hates this colour, and that’s why he never wears it? He’s probably going to expect something grand, knowing him.” Lily snorted at that.
“Please Reg, you’re afraid to raise your voice in the library. I don’t think James expects anything grand of you. He knows you.”
“Have you met Madam Pince?! I guess you’re right though.”
“I tend to be, and I’m sure he’ll love the gift regardless of how you give it to him. A good snog would never hurt though.”
“Lily!” Regulus yelled, fortunate to be on the other side of the library from Madam Pince.
“Shit, Lily I gotta get ready for quidditch this evening. Thanks so much for the help. Really, I would not have been able to do it. Cheers.” And with that he ran off.
