rewatching 9x01 and um. can't find a gifset for it, but sam's conversation with death? lasts probably 5 minutes in-universe and is probably one of the most validating and gratifying conversations he's ever had.

but it's so sad to watch because death says " i don't usually pass judgement but" and you automatically see sam's eyes harden up and brace for "freak, bloodsucker, bane of the earth," etc, etc. but instead death looks at him and says "well played, my boy."

everyone in sam's entire life has condemned him, behind his back and to his face, and at the end of his life, death is the one to recognize who he is.

I wish there had been a point where a singular Winchester had to play gay for a case because sam (evil) would trick Dean into doing it. I say trick. What I mean is that Dean would go well I’m not doing it. And Sam would go. That’s fine I kind of figured. I’m secure enough in my masculinity to do it. And Dean would go. Wh. Hey. I’m secure in my masculinity. And Sam would go. Awesome. Just act like yourself. And Dean would go what’s THAT supposed to mean and Sam (evil) would go it means gay people act just like you and me because they’re normal people. What did you think I meant.

“some people don’t deserve redemption” redemption isn’t something that’s deserved, it’s something someone does. it’s making the choice to change the way you live your life, to be better, to do good things instead of bad things and try to make up for the bad things. and everyone can and should do that, at any time, no matter what they’ve done. we can’t change the past, but we can choose what kind of person to be now and in the future. we have the responsibility to do so. it is so completely not about “deserving.”

I don't think Dean always really understands honesty as a full subject. if he tells a lie but it's vulnerable, it's true. if what he's say is a metaphor or represents what is real, it's true. if he's sorry or if he's empathetic whatever show he's doing is what is real. because at the end of the day his entire identity is also whatever it needs to be so why isn't that him?
