You know, the usual force-puller needs to see the object he/she wants to pull. Or at least the general vicinity of the object.
Ezra had fallen through at least FIVE layers of cloud. He’s practically unseen from the Ghost. (Even when he entered the topmost layer of cloud – before the Title Screen – we already see him ‘disappear’ in the cloud).
And he’s falling faster and faster (gravitation = acceleration; an object will falll faster and faster through the air until it reaches terminal velocity, limited by air friction). Ezra had fallen for at least about 10 seconds. Assuming the same gravitation as Terra, his velocity without air resistance would have reached 98 m/s = 352.8 km/h = 219 mph. Assuming same air density as Terra, Ezra will hit terminal velocity of 195 km/h (122 mph).
So Kanan did a WIDE AREA SEARCH-LOCATE-LOCK to catch his Padawan, FALLING AT THE SPEED OF 195 km/h… with EYES CLOSED.
Then he GRABBED his Padawan with a human-survivable G force, and LIFTED HIM UP.
An object free-falling through the air, in 10 seconds will have traveled 490 m = 1633 feet. Slightly less due to air resistance. We see the Ghost also slowly lowering itself. But the fact is Kanan lifted his padawan HUNDREDS OF METERS UP THE AIR.
