You know, back in my day (circa 2012 Tumblr) when we were criticizing or being negative about a show we no longer liked we made tags SPECIFICALLY for criticism and negativity of those shows (e.g su critical, Sherlock negative) and STAYED AWAY from the og fandom tags so the people who are still FANS of the show don't have to scroll through hundreds of paragraphs of foaming at the mouth tangents about a show they just want to enjoy with other fans of said show in peace

I feel for everyone who isn’t having the time of their fucking lives with The Vampire Lestat. Every week I clap and cheer for the antics of the world’s saddest buzzword-laden bisexual crash-out diva and his crew of the least healed men to ever grace the small screen. The songs are cringe delightfully camp, the wigs are a nightmare, I’m living my best life, I’m loving every second. Why the fuck would you have a blood shower in your tour bus. The onscreen mother-son incest is only like the third wildest thing happening in any given episode. It’s insane. I never want it to end

NO SHE ISN'T

THAT IS THE POINT OF THE STORY

'The odyssey of memory' is the point. We are seeing a broken family from 3 different sides but the reality is ALL of those sides are just subjective recollections. they are true to each individual, but none of them can ever possibly be 'the truth'. They lie to Daniel/the audience to make a better story, they lie to themselves to make themselves feel better, but they also just fundamentally misremember things because time and pain warp memory. We saw this over and over again with Louis in season 1 and 2. MEMORY IS NOT OBJECTIVE REALITY, THAT'S THE POINT OF THE STORY - you can retread the past as much as you like but memories are unreliable and if you base your understanding of events of your memories alone then you are remembering a lie.

Claudia is not 'the only one who we know told the truth' because of her diaries. her diaries are the angry subjective thoughts of a singular persons perspective. AND WE KNOW THEY'RE NOT ALL TRUE. In her diaries she talks about not being able to dream anymore, which emotionally tortures Louis, until he remembers that he saw her dreaming. The things she writes about Louis, Lestat and Armand are all coloured by her varying levels of affection and disdain for them.

When she remembers Charlie burning, she remembers it as a moment of Lestat taking pleasure in her suffering, fighting to force her to watch, lording his control over her, BECAUSE THAT IS HOW SHE FELT. When Lestat remembers it he sees it as a moment where he was cruel to her yes, but they both stood in mute still horror, her holding his wrist as though its some sort of horrific bonding moment, BECAUSE THAT'S HOW HE FELT.

neither version is true. neither version is untrue. both versions are how that night existed to the two of them. The point is not whose version is right or wrong. the point is no matter what actually happened that event caused a festering wound, and now that Claudia is dead it's one that Lestat can never hope to heal. He failed as a parent, and he has to live with that, forever.

You can tell the difference in Lestat’s intent based on who was telling the story.

In Claudia’s version of events, Lestat was being cruel by making her watch Charlie burn. Grabbing her with his hands and forcing her to gaze as his face melted. His face is serious as he tortures her with this lesson.

In Lestat’s memories, he was holding Claudia’s hand the entire time as she watched Charlie burn in front of her. His face is melancholic and tearful as he likely recalls Nicki being burned by Armand. He was enduring the pain with her in real time.

Claudia never knew any of this because she never looked back to see his face.

and if i said none of lestat's human friends understand him quite like tc does? how she goes from questioning what his lyrics and demands mean to understanding in that moment what he needed from the music. the way she is different from the other two. she doesn't cut herself on the wrist or hand, she taps her neck and beckons to his most vampiric nature, invites him in and accepts the horrific intimacy of what she is asking with all the cavalier attitude of a rockstar

Sorry to be contrarian but I really fucking like TVL. I like what they're doing. I like the writing. I like the pacing. I am excited for more. I can't wait to see what it's all leading to.

And I am tired of all this complaining. You're throwing away a meal you snatched before the cook was able to add all the ingredients.
