I miss when ads were a single click and then theyâre gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesnât even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you canât do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that thereâs nothing I can do about it.
Is this a new AI trend or am I just extra lucky to get a comment like this on AO3
what the actual fuck
Hello???
It's AI! It's all over Reddit, but basically if they mention you being alone for Christmas, it's definitely AI. There have been HUNDREDS of comments that are just some variation of this over and over again; if you're ever wondering whether a fic comment is AI or not, check it out on Reddit, most of the posts are referencing these kinds of comments. It's fucked up, but the main theory is that recently, AO3 denied a bunch of tech bros the ability to train their AI systems on fanfic, so this is their revenge. They want you to stop writing. It's pathetic, just delete and block <3 I promise your fic is lovely!
Here's some proof of my above claims!

And that's FAR from all of them unfortunately. But your writing is good; it's a fucking AI hatebot who wants people off of the platform. Stay strong!! I'm so sorry that happened to you
Oh thank god
I hate to think that ao3 had such vile people (sure there are some rude or entitled comments) but NOT this
Thank you so so much for this clarification
thereâs an LGBTQ+ youth center in seoul called dding dong (iâve been told this is a pun) that iâve donated to over the years - because south korea is such a conservative country, theyâre kind of the sole providers of this much needed work that thereâs an increasing demand for, and are fully funded by donations. i got an email today explaining that they very suddenly have to vacate the physical space theyâve been in (which was a donated space), and need to raise $20,000 USD to secure a new one. theyâll also need to pay for the space every month going forward.
as someone who spends a lot of my free time making up pretend gay stories about rich and famous people in korea, itâs always felt important that i also do something to acknowledge the reality for actual queer people in korea, especially youth who donât have many or any other options for support. the project updates i get about their work are always really touching and i would be so sad to see them struggle or even be forced to shut down due to this. i know money is tight for a lot of people, and there are so many things happening in the world that are worthy causes, but i just wanted to share this one because of its significance to me.
here is their regular fundraiser on globalgiving if you have any ability to donate
merry christmas xoxo

i wish we were able to talk about women's rights without someone mentioning how much they do or don't want to have sex with them. i don't care if you're a lesbian Stop finding worth in women purely from their perceived attractiveness
"I think women should not be expected to shave for societal respect / to avoid discrimination" "yeah𤤠i love bush" ok well that's not what we're talking about is it.
i hate how many posts about trans women deserving respect always devolve into "I love girldick" or "trans rights but I don't want to date a trans person" because that's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. you should not respond to feminism with "YESSS I loveeee you because I see you as nothing but a sex object" you people sound like other men I get stuck talking with that end up saying "free the nipple so I can see boobies in public" and thinking they're feminists. why can't we just respect women regardless of your attraction to them or not. why does it need to be brought up in every conversation regarding their rights
looking. at you
Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
This reminds me of a study in paedagogics. Basically, the level of education achieved by children later in life is in correlation with how many books are present in the household
i love writing out numbers and then putting them in parentheses like "one (1)" even when i dont need to i think its funny
Lakes and graveyards are very similar in that if you detonate a large explosion inside either one a lot of dead bodies come to the surface.
Hi, um. How is being the necromancer's apprentice going for you OP?
You want I should raise dead, I raise dead, no problem. You want banish dead, no problem, have plenty more nitro. I do this, ten minutes.
CHUNKY STEW IS NOT BANISHMENT.
Chunky stew, very bad necromancer. We banish, no problem, no chunks. I give you number of cousin Yvgeny. Will power wash house, very good prices. No other necromancer does this for you.
Is....is...is Yvgeny....alive?
Eh. Is alive enough.
For peace of mind and tranquility, you need a brushbuddy in a hat <3
washing dishes is evil because you go "oh fuck there's so many dishes this is gonna take foreverrr" and then you enter the dish abyss and emerge with your abdomen somehow covered in water and your hands all wrinky and then you look at the clock and what felt like half an hour was actually 10 minutes
OBSESSED with this shot of Anakin and Fox in TCW. Look at them. Anakin's giving Fox the middle-aged-mom-who's-been-called-to-her-son's-school-because-he-got-in-a-fight-and-refuses-to-accept-he-started-it-and-is-making-it-the-lady-in-reception-who-has-no-idea-what's-going-on's-problem treatment. I love Fox being mildly scared because that is A Fucking Jediâ˘ď¸ and not just any Jedi, More-Or-Less Space Jesus Anakin Skywalkerâ˘ď¸ he's managed to piss off but also RADIATES the aura of "how fucking dare you point at me i'm just doing my job here bich" in his posture. Absolute cinema. 10/10. This is what Star Wars was made for.

We (Tuckington nation) talk a lot (and rightfully so) about how everyone else met Agent Washington: The Merciless Killing Machine, wheras Tucker met Wash: The Sorta Lame, Very Human, Guy.
But, I think another fun aspect of thier dynamic is the Tucker that Wash sees and recognises. Tucker is so incredibly human to everyone around him, like the other sim troopers, hes funny, and generally a little non threatening, at least compared to the freelancers and mercs you may be accustomed to. And Wash sees that guy aswell don't get me wrong, he learns to be human again with that guy, they hangout a lot, but he also sees the Tucker: The Great Force to Be Reckoned With, wielder of a glowing fucking sword you do not want to be on the business end of, (funny personality aside)
Idk, its just another thing about them I love, like as much as we do a lot of explorartion of hands accustomed to murder and violence learning to be gentle and to love again about Wash, but if you think further, Tucker's onscreen kill count is the highest of the whole show. And in universe, Wash is the only, or at least the first to notice that potential.
Neat.
I really can and will blame the 9-5 for everything. "We're in a loneliness epidemic" well, we have to spend a third of our day interacting with people in a professional way that makes forming real friendships difficult and then we're peopled out by the time we're done. "People are eating more and more unhealthily" people have to spend more than a third of their day doing work related tasks and they don't want to spend their tiny amount of free time making food. "People aren't involved in their local communities" after spending more than a third of their day doing work related things people are tired and also all those community events take place during normal working hours. "People need to get more hobbies" after spending more than a third of their day working, people are TIRED and don't want to do anything that takes yet more energy. "Literacy is dying" to maintain your critical thinking skills you need to read/watch things that make you think and after spending more than a third of your day doing work related stuff you are TIRED and don't want to expend even more brainnpower. "People need to get outside more" People. Are. TIRED. Because they have to spend all of their time working or preparing for work or recovering from work or doing all the chores they couldn't stay on top of because of work. I can blame fucking anything on having to work, it is truly the root of all fucking evil.
Hey OP, love your scalding take here; don't forget about commutes.
Once you factor in commute times (which even for short distances can be grotesquely inflated due to the fact that so many people are all commuting at the same time, but that's a different conversation) many people are actually devoting upwards of 10-12 hours a day on "work related tasks."
