I’ve started journaling again which is more of a fun hobby than out of mental anguish. Mentally I’m doing pretty good.

So my journal is mostly composed to weird doodles and lists!! I love lists!!

But I’ve run into the issue of every journal prompt I find is aggressively positive or really sappy and I’m glad that works for some people. I am not some people-

I’m odd and strange and off putting

I like dead things and vicsera and the horrors

I don’t want to write about ten things that make me smile or great good ol things that I see throughout the day.

Idk this post serves no purpose I just want my journal to feel human. And being aggressively positive and overly happy isn’t how I human.

An heavy chapter . The contrast between little Shuraka and the man we see now isn’t quite so different, yet it’s impossible to ignore.

Not shocking, though… considering the world he was raised in. That environment shaped his reality.

Still, I can’t help but be deeply intrigued by his aura and all that may still be hidden behind those eyes

I think the contrast between Shuraka in Tei's company v Shuraka when he's the God King is interesting. We see when he is amongst other people (everyone who isn't Tei) he is terrifying. He knows how much power he wields and isn't afraid to do so.

However, when he is with Tei, he's squishy but we see a few times that he does attempt to test where the line is with exerting his authority. like we see in the carriage when he pushes a little (causing Tei to pull back)

Its where we get the line "He's like Mother" which DOES get expanded on later.

idk I think how his character is being set up and the duality of it is interesting.

I'm also wondering where they are going to go with it because Tei is going to figure it out eventually.

i've been reading blossoms of the white night, including the most recent chapter 19 so spoilers ahead.

i admit this series does have some problems that i can't quite put my finger on. i guess the overall colourism/cultural stereotypes thing but i haven't done a deep dive into it.

but i admit i am a huge sucker for political marriages and this was right up my alley. i am also a huge sucker for stoic guys and tei is so goddamn repressed.

with regards to the most recent chapter 19, i'm not super anxious about the introduction of the harem.

first of all, shuraka has shown time and time again that he is incredibly devoted to tei. he even made him his main consort. after twelve years of not seeing each other.

second of all, we know shuraka's blood is all backed up or something because he's not having sex. so even if he is hanging out with his harem he's not having sex. doesn't preclude an emotional relationship, seeing as how tei smelled rhyvann's perfume on shuraka. but combined with the fact that shuraka is so in love with tei, i'm not convinced he has anything more than a friendship/allyship with rhyvann.

but the third reason that i think everyone is missing is this one. when jakar was introducing the harem to shuraka, all of the members were princesses/princes from foreign lands. these aren't commoners that caught his eye. these are concubines that were sent to him to establish political ties. shuraka is young, but he's a smart leader. that's how he managed to establish control at such a young age. he can't send these concubines back because the kingdoms will see it as a rejection of a political pact. so shuraka's keeping them but it doesn't seem he has romantic ties with them. as to why they're older...i think it's simply just because shuraka is young so like a lot of people are older than him lol.

so i'm not really worried by the introduction of the harem. there have only been 19 chapters but we've seen time and time again that most of the insecurities come from tei's side. he grew up feeling like he always needed to prove himself so now that he's shuraka's consort, he feels like he has to fulfill his duty to make him happy, but only being aware of the practical side of things, like making sure he's healthy and safe. he thinks he needs to act like an empress in a historical cdrama where he has to line up concubines to sate shuraka.

tei's completely unaware that shuraka actually likes him romantically and that he doesn't need to do anything for shuraka to like him. i think with these recent chapters we're starting to see tei feel jealous about shuraka. but he doesn't even notice his own romantic feelings. i think he likes shuraka because shuraka has never asked him to prove himself. tei kind of did that on his own when he used to protect shuraka when shuraka was young. but as an adult, shuraka just wants tei to be with him and that's all he needs. he doesn't need tei to do anything else for him and tei is so confused by that.

I might genuinely throw up sun god shuraka has never felt safe ever. does not sleep for fear someone will kill him in a singular moment of respite. sun god shuraka meets the soldier from the land of ice and snow. and sleeps. deeply and without hurry. sun god shuraka closes his eyes and allows the world to fall away beside the prince soldier of winter tei.
