I have to say I love my job! On Monday of this week we were able to deliver a months worth of food and toys to children of 38 families! They were so grateful! We don't think about the people in our own neighborhoods having trouble feeding their families. There are some amazing organizations like Salvation Army and Christmas stores. Christmas store is a business that will open around thanksgiving and people donate throughout the year and people get amazing discounted toys for their little ones. My boyfriend works with a guy who went to both and the only this his daughter wanted was a new bicycle. I couldn't stand for her not to get one. I see how hard he works! I called the owner of my employment and he insisted that we go buy him one and they will pay for it. I love seeing people who have plenty helping those that are really trying. The families that we delivered to were amazing. A few acted like they expected it, they were just like ok thanks just set everything over there. Some were in tears and thanked up 100 times! You could really tell that these people were trying and just couldn't do it. One lady said that she had taken in 4 of her grandkids and she was disabled. She physically couldn't work and that she was on food stamps but because she didn't have custody of her grandkids they wouldn't give her any extra. She said that she could take her children to court but obviously couldn't afford the court costs and lawyers. She said she makes crafts and sales them to her neighbors to try and make it by. It just breaks my heart to see these people in our own backyards struggling. Then you would have people who didn't have heat. She had the house shut, bed in living room and dining room open all other doors shut and had two space heaters plugged in. Another lady was home and her husband, I'm guessing, was laying in one of the two beds in the living room they had a huge flat screen TV. They had 3 small children running around with no shoes or shirts and one in diapers outside. It was about 42 degrees. I went to school with the mother, she was beautiful her senior year! I don't know if she had 2 teeth in her head. These stories break my heart more than most because the children are being raised in an environment like this. All in all I know we helped a lot of children out with the food and toys and that's all that matters! I pray for these people in my community everyday because if I could help them all I would. Please remember to give to the families in need but sometimes you cannot think of that parents. Think of the children, they are the ones that need us! There are so many organizations that will help out...I push for the Salvation Army every chance I get! Merry Christmas!
