Itâs always âI love youâ and never:
âIf youâre in bed next to me, I will take your hand. If you are not, I will go find you. I will spend the rest of my life, if I get that lucky, seeking you out. Not because I promised you or because youâre there. But because I will want to. I will want to be beside you. Every day. Forever. Every morning, I wake up and I think, âGod, yes, her.â If that can be enough for you, itâs yours until the day I die.â
5/5 STARS đ
Oh to be loved the way Vanessa and Joan love each other
Lucy in 1996 on 'Rosie'. They talked about Rosie playing Rizzo from Grease on Broadway about a year or so before Lucy herself starred in the role. I love Lucy's singing here. I've probably watched this a couple of hundred times over the years. Hard to believe... 1996, when three of my very favorite shows ever were gracing the airwaves... and they are STILL three of my favorite shows. And two of the women from those shows are the only women I ever had a real "butterflies-in-your- stomach, what am I fourteen years old?" crushes on. Ironically, both with the initials L.L.
Xena: Warrior Princess 06.08 The Ring
Gabrielle: The Fire Dancer
If Gabrielle does anything best, itâs knowing how to stall to buy Xena time to do whatever it is sheâs supposed to be doing to save the day. Here we see her put on a little performance where she plays with fire. Anyone who says Gabbyâs element isnât fire, speak up now or forever hold your peace. I definitely think it is.
All we really care about in this sequence is seeing Aphrodite watching her friend dance, totally transfixed by her. Because we all know sheâs got a thing for her.
Xena would look very different if it was from Xenaâs perspective, eh? Or basically anyone not Gabrielle.
Gabrielleâs perspective is the show we get to see.
But then we have our own filter over the top of it.
Hence Gabrielle is âWeâ. We is Gabrielle in Xena.
As R.J. STEWART intended. She represents the audience. What it would be like to be with Xena.
Because if it were the other way around, the TV show would not play like a campy high-romance action fantasy. It would play like a depressing drama and there would be no doubts as to whether Xena was suicidal.
Thank the gods we see Xena through Gabrielleâs lens.
Thank the gods The Xena Scrolls was actually a thing and the creators embraced it as how the narrative of Xena should be shown and told. And not Xenaâs way.
Ok, but I want to talk about Gabrielleâs face here real quick. Because itâs actually really painful. Think about it- Gabrielle is probably wondering when Xena was with someone else, who Xena chose, and you can just see in the third gif that, for a moment, she thinks itâs a joke. She laughs, as if Xena is going to roll her eyes and say she just said that to get everyone to stop talking. But then Xena doesnât, and Gabrielle is just there, looking at her, wondering when Xena cheated. (And while we know Xena never did, because she loves Gabs and says herself that she has no idea how it happened, at the moment, Gabrielle doesnât have our knowledge. She just thinks the woman she loves chose someone else, and it clearly hurts).
Good or Bad Xena? Happy Women's Day!
GABRIELLE: âHave you seen Xena? Sheâs tall. Sheâs beautiful. Piercing blue eyes. Swings a mean right hook. Looks like she might have swung if already. Xena?â
Love how Gabrielle always fixated on the most minute of details. Like how Xena was wearing Dianaâs pink dress in âWarriorâŠPrincessâ and Gabrielle tells her that she likes it while looking directly at her cleavage showing even more than it does in wearing the leathers.
She was not subtle about her attraction to Xena and yet she was completely oblivious that she was attracted due to her completely mistaking it for hero worship.
But if it was truly hero worship would she even pay attention to the colour of her eyes, the curves of her body or even her height? Facets of her appearance.
Only the mean right hook comment makes any sense.
Hero worship, my ass. Gabrielle, you gay as fuck for her.
Not to mention that time when she was under the influence of Henbane and all it really did was make her confess her feelings because drugs/alcohol doesnât make you make shit up. It makes you reveal shit you suppress. It makes you completely uninhibited. Stuff you probably havenât even admitted to yourself yet.
I really like that little moment in âThe Questâ while Gabrielle is racked with grief over Xenaâs death where she confesses to Iolas that she loves Xena. The way Renee played that confession in body language was almost like that was the first time Gabrielle identified it herself. Finally realizing that her love for Xena was romantic - and sure, maybe some of that was because she admired her heroism. But that was barely relevant under the new context that she felt empty without her.
Why is it only when we lose the ones we love or almost do we recognize our own feelings and desires for them?
Itâs not just âthe kissâ that makes âThe Questâ so iconic.
That whole episode was literally a gay/queer narrative and burgeoning romantic arc just based on this alone.
Just on the recognition that Gabrielle was in love and never really got to tell Xena that while she was alive and âthe kissâ was just Xenaâs way of showing and proving that she feels the same and always has and that they donât really have to say anything to each other about it.
Actions mattered more. That was always how they declared their love for each other. All in the actions.
Fighting and sacrificing for each other was their love language. Their love was always in the greater good.
This is what makes Xena so fucking iconic and even legendary as a queer show. Because WLW love stories have never been written this well. Established this well.
They made sure that you could not separate the main narrative from the characters and their WLW love story.
Vice versa.
Whereas many other âqueer showsâ just give you a narrative/plot/story arc and loosely and lazily interweave the queer characters around it.
âXena: Warrior Princessâ was the exact opposite.
Xena and Gabrielle and their love WERE the narrative!
Itâs just that narrative could not be explicitly gay/queer.
Yet somehow that just made it even more gay/queer.
Copyright class actions could financially ruin AI industry, trade groups say.
AI industry groups are urging an appeals court to block what they say is the largest copyright class action ever certified. Theyâve warned that a single lawsuit raised by three authors over Anthropicâs AI training now threatens to âfinancially ruinâ the entire AI industry if up to 7 million claimants end up joining the litigation and forcing a settlement.

gabrielle is always like, "have you seen xena? yeah she's tall, she's beautiful. she's dressed in a leather corset with armor plates around her perfectly shaped breasts (spoken for). her eyes are piercing blue and her long black hair flows in the wind as she fearlessly jumps on hordes of armed men and crashes their skulls with her thighs and chops them up with her sword and it is now covered in blood and she is a little bit too. i blow softly on her wounds as i sanitize them so it doesn't sting. when we settle for the night to sleep under the stars, she lights the fire and invites me to lie down next to her, and as she slowly drifts to sleep she stretches her arm and cuddles me, her body tracing the silhouette of mine, and her breath on my cheek keeping me warmer than the flames. she cannot sleep without me and i cannot sleep without her and nothing can ever tear us apart, not even death, for the ties that hold our souls together transcend all of time and space. have you seen her? yeah she broke my frying pan again, i am soooo fucking mad at her right now."
Tumblrites, the hour has come for us to practice one of our most sacred rituals.
Likes to charge, reblogs to cast.
it is a slippery slope from âwow renee oâconnor should play sappho in a xena reboot and mentor gabrielle in poetryâ (assuming we have to recast) to crying at the image of original gabrielle teaching basically a younger incarnation of herself how to write about her love for xena
Itâs funny, most people can be around someone and then gradually begin to love them and never know exactly when it happened; but Ruth knew the very second it happened to her. When Idgie had grinned at her and tried to hand her that jar of honey, all these feelings that she had been trying to hold back came flooding through her, and it was at that second in time that she knew she loved Idgie with all her heart. That's why she had been crying, that day. She had never felt that way before and she knew she probably would never that way again.
it's so funny to me how brunhilde was supposed to be this double agent to gain xena's trust and steal the ring of power from her but all it took was a single look into gabrielle's eyes and she was like "fuck odin and his plan"
Yep. That lesbian was u-hauling from everything she ever knew the moment she laid eyes on Gabrielle.
Itâs still insane to me that there is actually a fully canon (confirmed-in-the-text) lesbian character in Xena. No implied messaging within subtext or anything like that.
Just straight up sapphic and gay as fuck for Gabrielle and the only reason Gabrielle was not reciprocating her advances is because sheâs insanely in love with Xena.
The Ring Trilogy is very maintext in this way.
Xena: Warrior Princess was truly ahead of its time.
