Hope

Exactly two years ago I was going through the most difficult point of my life. It was one of those "end-of-the-world" periods where the burden I carried could really be the end of me. It took my dad to make me feel safe and three others to make me feel blessed at a time I felt cursed. It was specifically these four people who I gave me hope and who I thank God for. Today is the complete opposite of two years ago. Today I feel on top of the world. Dreams are not mirages, but reality fogged up. The fog has cleared at this milestone and those dreams I never dreamed of have shown themselves to me. Today I met with Rae in Berkeley to have lunch. We were meeting to discuss the Journalism program at Cal. After sharing our experiences and her insight as to how she got accepted to one of the most prestigious schools, I feel confident that Berkeley is a realistic goal and a very possible reality. The takeaway: "Don't let what you've overcome be hidden from who you are". Those struggles, no matter how dark, make your dreams bigger and a reality. Find your four people who give you hope at a time it isn't feasible. That is a valuable trait of a true friend. Those people are the ones worth fighting for and keeping around forever. Hello happiness

Days like today are the best! They're the reminders that home is where I will find those happy-to-see-me, familiar faces. Yes, this sounds egotistical, but it's true. Those familiar smiles, embraces and genuine "welcome back's" and "how have you been?" are my home. This week I've been welcomed back and have rediscovered my happy place. The Best San Francisco Tour Guide

My sister came to town with her boyfriend for the first time in four years. After living in San Francisco for about five, I've mastered the tour I give to relatives, friends and acquaintances that pass through this city. My sister completely agreed and suggested I start a blog about my San Franciscan lifestyle. So, here we go... First and probably most importantly about San Francisco is its cocktails (Oh, how I love the San Francisco cocktail/bar/mixology/lounge scene!) Secondly (almost equally) is the food... Nom, nom nom nom... etcetera. The food is amazing, if you know where to go and thanks to my willingly boyfriend and friends, I have visited some of the most awesome San Francisco eateries that exist.  So, join me as I dive into my exploratory lifestyle full of art, food, cocktails, and adventures. Off to go have ramen with some friends in the mission and then camping for the weekend in South Shore of Lake Tahoe. I'll be sure to bring back photos and enough adjectives to (almost) make you feel you were there. As always,

Some people turn to coffee, alcohol, sports, and other vices to relieve stress; I cry my eyes out.

A hormonal, overwhelmed, frustrated, stressed-out, overworked, exhausted, emotional woman.

I've recently rediscovered Ralph Waldo Emerson. He was a religious man in the 1800s who wrote a lot about poetry, the individual, nature, love and experience. Most of all he was a believer (and leader) of transcendentalism — the philosophy that spirituality could be found in many things and known through intuition and analysis.

I find myself, at the age of twenty-five, discovering that same philosophy. 

Emerson was a great writer and it has been inspiring to read his many great quotes. I'm looking forward to sharing them as they apply to my everyday life.  

This quote in particular reminds me to make the most of those foggy days in the ironically named san franciscan neighborhood - the sunset district. If I can't live in the sunshine, and I can't swim in the (very cold) sea, then I can surely drink the wild air.

But today, it is beautiful in the city by the bay. Today, I can live in the sunshine ... and I will while drinking in that wild air.  xoxo,

Honor yourself

So many things have inspired me this past week enough to finally sit down and commit to creating a blog.

I volunteer in this wonderful organization where I help high school students create monologues and ten minute scripts about resistance and resilience that will be published in an actual book and performed live in a notable theatre company. A theme I am personally familiar with. Seeing these students write about events so important and personal in their lives with no filter, showed me how therapeutic it is to pick up a pen  (or in this case open a laptop) and write what is in your soul.

So here it goes. 

I welcome you to join me in my journey through life and divulge in my thoughts, words, feelings, emotions, moods, experiences and most importantly into my heart's desires. 

Moments come and go, but I'll never let la vita passa!
