This day in 1776, 249 years ago was the day that the people in what we now know as america declared independence. declared that there will be NO king in this nation. that the people are smart enough and strong enough to determine right from wrong. that the people can self govern. this country was built on the hopes of democracy. hope that people can come together to determine right from wrong and that we can hold each other accountable and uphold morality. but now today that is not what’s found in our current political system. there is no accountability. no grace. no morality. our system is full of evil and greed. it is no longer about the wellbeing of the people who make up this nation but rather the wellbeing of those who are rich in this nation. and i full on understand that this nation wasn’t really ment for anybody who wasn’t a white man to succeed. but because of this nation’s diversity and ground principles of humanity (not necessarily equality) people who aren’t white were still able to make something out of nothing and have themselves a better life than what they once had. THATS what it means to be american. it’s to have humility. it’s to have morals. it’s to be gracious and kind to those who don’t look like you. it’s about community.
What we have been witnessing since november 5th is the loss of compassion and remembrance of what this nation is supposed to represent. And what happened yesterday july 3rd quite frankly was the nail on the coffin for many people across the nation and across the world. the core values of america have been lost in the pool of greed, corruption, hate, and individualism. our government is declaring war on the people who make this country.
while it is okay to be in deep despair, angry and saddened by what we are witnessing we also cannot stay down for too long. that’s what these very evil people want. it’s easier to have means of control when folks are depressed and become numb to the world around them. that’s how abusers get away with abusing people for so long. you get broken done to the point of no return. that’s why slave masters hated when slaves would sing in the fields. that’s why during jim crow they hated to see black folk find joy in community. that’s why predators prey on the weak. our joy and happiness is what keeps us fighting. it’s what allows us to try and see the brighter side of tomorrow. our joy is what keeps us alive. our fire and passion within is what helps push our drive for change. when kamala was running for president that joy, the bliss, the laughter is what pushed us to fight even harder.
hate has won too many times in this nation. but we have also seen what it’s like when joy, love, and compassion wins. maybe not in our lifetime but we’ve seen it in our history books.
i’m absolutely horrified about not only my future but the future of the people i know and those that i don’t know. I’m tired like many people across the country. but our fire and passion for change and a better tomorrow cannot die. we can rise up against what’s happening. we can demand better. we can over throw the government. we’ve seen it. that’s what July 4th 1776 was about. it was about the hard work and dedication that was put into making things right. it’s embedded in our constitution. It IS WITHIN OUR RIGHTS. a revolution is well within our rights. the question is do we fall and wallow in self pity or do we fight for the rights and change that we deserve so we can see a better tomorrow.
