thereâs no Star Wars vs Star Trek dichotomy, they are both space based but have completely different themes, morals, universe rules, character arcs, and structure (initially movie vs initially tv show). it makes no sense to rank them against each other
the very idea that stone femmes/pillow princesses âdonât reciprocateâ implies there is nothing valuable in allowing another full access to your body as an expression of desire for them. that there is no reciprocity in holding another against you and within you. that there is no generosity in reflecting the desire of another. the problem is you look at us and see only how it works in relation to yourselves. stone butches and stone femmes see how works it always in relation to each other.
âAmong the many forms of alienation, the most frequent one is alienation in language. If I express a feeling with a word, let us say, if I say âI love you,â the word is meant to be an indication of the reality which exists within myself, the power of my loving. The word âloveâ is meant to be a symbol of the fact love, but as soon as it is spoken it tends to assume a life of its own, it becomes a reality. I am under the illusion that the saying of the word is the equivalent of the experience, and soon I say the word and feel nothing, except the thought of love which the word expresses. The alienation of language shows the whole complexity of alienation. Language is one of the most precious human achievements; to avoid alienation by not speaking would be foolish â yet one must be always aware of the danger of the spoken word, that it threatens to substitute itself for the living experience. The same holds true for all other achievements of man; ideas, art, any kind of man-made objects. They are manâs creations; they are valuable aids for life, yet each one of them is also a trap, a temptation to confuse life with things, experience with artifacts, feeling with surrender and submission.â
Been reflecting a lot on what the âlesbian communityâ is and honestly what is the lesbian community? To me, it seems like a myth. Just something people refer to, but what is it? Has there ever been a community of women who love women where it was only lesbians? Or even mostly lesbians? I donât think so.
Iâve been to a lot of different lesbian parties, meetups, talks, karaoke nights, Butch-femme meetups, dyke marches, Butch brunches, I founded and ran the only monthly lesbian party in the Rogue Valley, but not once has it ever been entirely lesbians, or even majorily lesbians.
Iâve seen it said that lesbians and bisexual women have âclose knit communitiesâ but the fact of the matter is, theyâre the same community. We share it together.
Also, many bisexual women I know once identified as lesbians, and most lesbians I know once identified as bisexual. I personally identified as bisexual from when I was 15 until I was 22. And I still question my sexuality from time to time. Hell, I know a lot of people who have even gone back and forth between lesbian and bisexual multiple times. There are lesbians right now who currently think theyâre bisexual and there are bisexual women right now who think they are lesbians.
I really do think people massively overestimate and exaggerate the differences in the experience of being a lesbian or a bisexual women. And the âlesbian communityâ that is so often referred to online is a myth, it does not exist. Women who love women all share the same community together.
dragon age prompt if u want it: hawkebela or merrillbeth (or merrillbela! if the first two dont appeal to you) dancing together in the ashes, whatever that means to you, however you wanna interpret it đ
AHH I WROTE THIS LIKE 2 WEEKS AGO WHEN U SENT THE PROMPT AND THEN I SAVED IT IN MY DRAFTS TO POST IN THE EVENING AND FORGOT ABOUT IT RIP. but anyways thanks for this lovely prompt!! i went with hawkebela, since iâve barely made content for them despite loving them both dearly. <3 as far as âdancing together in the ashesâ i definitely took some liberties and made it a little more sad than was maybe necessary lol, but i hope you enjoy nonetheless.
cw: mention of canon character death, alcohol mention, emetophobia.
Andrastian pyres smell sweeter than foundry smoke. Thatches of alderwood and apple boughs beneath the body will mask the acrid char of flesh. Hawke has always resented the tradition, ever since her father died. Lothering had smelled like this too, when it burned, sweet with straw roofs and flaming orchards.
Leandraâs pyre smells like everything sheâs ever lost.
Bethany was not given leave from the Gallows to attend. Hawke wonders, though, if Bethany can see the beacon of firelight from the window-slit in her cell, the orange cast on the Hightown Chantryâs cold facade. Or perhaps her cell does not face the city. Perhaps Gamlenâs missive has yet to reach her, and Bethany is still laboring under the delusion of future letters from their mother.
A cool hand runs down her bare forearm, pulling Hawke back to herself, and she offers a weak smile when Isabela silently threads their fingers together. Theyâve hardly spoken a word since Leadraâs death. Hawke is grateful that Isabela is among the blessed few that have not tried to coax talk out of her. Right now, her throat is all strain and bile. She isnât sure she has any words worth saying.
Nobility and other circumstantial mourners slough off into the night when the prayers have ended and bells have tolled, stripping the assembly down to those Leandra knew in her final years. Varric is comforting Merrill in the background, whose genuine tears have more than once moved Hawke to near fits of sobbing herself. Anders and Fenris are a reassuring presence behind her, having shielded her from unsolicited condolences and sycophantic intrusions for the entirety of the evening. And Isabela - an anchor, when Hawke finds herself at threat of drift.
The pyre burns on, sweet with sacred woods. Hawke breathes that smoke in like a drowning til she retches on the Chantry courtyard floor.
Isabela takes her back to the Hanged Man after the funeral. Hawke isnât sure she can handle going home tonight, to the place Leandra had loved and lost and won again. They sit hip-to-hip at the bar, Hawke lipping numbly at the foam on her tankard. She doesnât drink so much as swallow down bitterness.
The tavern space behind them is raucous as ever, the air thick and humid and briny. No one else her is mourning. People are dancing. An engagement celebration. The bride- and groom-to-be are dancing on a table as well-wishers skip in concentric rings around them, hands clasped, heels clicking. Tears of joy streak the work-worn faces of aunts and cousins who were forged in the guts of Lowtownâs foundries.
Hawke wonders, idly, if every damn thing in Kirkwall lives and dies in ash.
âHey.â Isabela nudges her gently, plants a kiss on her shoulder. âDance with me.â
âWhat?â
Isabela slips to her feet and tugs Hawke off her bar stool. âDance with me.â
Hawke makes a face, but she throws back the rest of her drink and allows Isabela to tow her out into the fray. Lute, fiddle, and fife set a rhythm for their feet; they fall into fluid step with the other bodies, jumping, swaying, stomping, touching, laughing. Beads of sweat drop like pearls off the warm brown of Isabelaâs skin, cutting lines through the fine gray film of ash that had settled there. At some late hour, loosened by their dancing, Hawkeâs lips find a smile. She smiles harder than she has in weeks.

Generally, people (who arenât transmisogynists that speak over trans women and brush aside our issues) seem to understand at this point that âf*mboyâ is a transmisogynistic slur and transmisogyny-exempt people shouldnât reclaim it. But I think itâs important to have a discussion about how the meme itself also ties into transmisogynistic fetishism, so thatâs what Iâll be attempting to explain today.
CW/TW: Transmisogyny; perisexism; misgendering; talk of porn, fetishism, and genitals; uncensored slurs; homomisia mention; minor p*dophilia mention
Not shaving and not wearing make up are literally nonbehaviors. Theyâre a complete lack of action. But doing nothing is considered masculine because women are not allowed to just be. this goes double for trans women.
Can I be honest? Iâm very, very confused as to why you guys are so upset about Beau saying sheâs in love with a woman, because itâs not the woman you want her to be in love with...? Iâm a lesbian and I feel like Iâm missing something here
The short answer is, people are disappointed because a ship they cared about was dismissed. There's literally nothing wrong with that. Disappointment is a normal human reaction to things not going the way you wanted, and people are allowed to express that on their own blogs and in their own ship tags. It's not an attack on anyone, it's just people sharing their feelings.
The long answer is, for a lot of people this has nothing to do with specific ships or which is 'better' or anything like that. I like beauyasha! Most people I know in this fandom do. It's about the way that beaujester was dismissed and why that stings a little harder for many wlw in particular.
It's about the fact that Marisha went on Talks and explained that Beau's feelings for Jester weren't just physical, they weren't fleeting, it was deeper than anything she'd ever felt before. It's about the fact that barely any time has actually passed in-game between that declaration and Beau "falling out of love" with Jester. It's especially about the use of the word "lust", which is painful to hear after seeing Beau called predatory by lesbophobic fans over and over again due to her feelings for Jester, after being explicitly told that the feelings we were seeing weren't that shallow.
And this isn't about blaming Marisha or anyone else. Nobody thinks this was done maliciously and nobody's trying to 'cancel' her. People are just hurt because we already see so few f/f relationships in media that are treated with depth and care that it hurts to see one completely brushed off, EVEN WHEN it's to pursue a different gay relationship. A lot of wlw got very attached to the idea of seeing a healthy depiction of falling in love with your best friend, and being suddenly told "No, actually, it was just fleeting lust" stings, even if it wasn't on purpose, even if it's well within Marisha's right to make that decision.
Just...... be kind. People are disappointed and sad and they're probably gonna be vocal about it for the next couple days. Even if you don't personally understand, just be compassionate. Blacklist the tag if it's bumming you out. People expressing their disappointment is not an attack on you, your ship, or the show.
