I find it so interesting that Jason's coma in Lost Days is only one year long because like. Technically there's a scientific reason for that because comas longer than a year tend to be life-threatening but considering every other neurological info in Lost Days it's safe to say Winick isn't married to medical accuracy. So for him to put Jason in a coma for one year and then keep him in that "not awake not asleep" limbo state he fabricated out of weird neurological shortcuts, it's like, there's so much nuance to Jason's states of awareness during that time on purpose and it's all linked to age which I know to be on purpose because the literal framework with chapter titles mimics child development on top of it being a twist on the coming of age genre. It's important for me to keep in mind that the reason we're all having those debates in the first place is because he created a limbo state to put Jason on that yes, I can try to investigate using medical science, but the explanations don't fit great because it's all made up, Winick made that up on purpose. He introduced a first layer of nuance when he made Jason come back after being dead for month, then a second bigger one with one year of coma, and then a third one with the "not actually catatonic" ambiguity. Red Hood Lost Days is a twist on the Coming of Age story with visible psychoanalytical inspirations and Jason's age is purposefully constructed as ambiguous on different levels and the psychophobia in Winick's characterisation of Jason feels heavily coloured by psychoanalytical frameworks and resulting discourse and conversations surrounding Jason both in fandom and canon tend to build on the psychophobic "crazy manchild" archetype and all of those have to do with one another!!! Honestly more than calculating timelines (though those serve to help prove points) I wish the focus was put more on the interrelations between those facts because those are the core of the Jason age discourse. People often talk as though we made up the ambiguity out of ableism, and I think whatever you end up making of it, it's important to be aware that the ambiguity is intentional and it is in fact ableist in its intention. Lost Days as a story on several levels only works on a technicality and it feels disingenuous to call it dumb writing when the fact that it's a technicality seems very much the point. Lost Days lays down the imagery of a pseudo-parental bond in Talia's mentorship so that when Jaytalia happens it appears shocking and provocative while being technically acceptable on a technicality (because Jason is technically eighteen and he's not actually related to her). The technicality is the point!!! The technicality exists specifically so that Jason can be characterized simultaneously as a child and a grown adult and that's what is meant to make you uncomfortable!!! It's supposed to make you think that Jason and Talia are fucked up for doing it (which yeah, is both insulting to Talia and by the book typical psychoanalytical victim-blaming) and it's not supposed to be read as downright sexual assault because the ambiguous technicality is the entire point!!! Because putting Jason as a literal manchild is a clear Oedipus complex characterization that justifies everything else Winick has or will write about Jason and his depiction of "bpd" and the boundaries between the concepts of "psychopath", "psychotic" and "not crazy" as employed by Winick to describe Jason in that liminal state -ambiguity is the purpose it's not an accident none of this is an accident it's very cleverly intentional it's because it's intentional that it's bad can anyone hear me come oooon

What would be some reasons Nina would leave during Season 3 other than, the Osirian and Chosen One can't be together? In all honesty, I never really vibed with that reasoning but understood why the writers chose.

I have an idea for my story, but thought I would toss the question out there for fans of the show to respond.

I had this idea as soon as I learned back in 2012 that Nathalia Ramos wouldn't be returning for Season 3 (if it happened, as I don't think it was officially renewed yet), and it draws inspiration from Het Huis Anubis. But chances are it would have significantly altered the plot of season 3 if they went this route.

Imagine Nina returns the Cup of Ankh in Egypt, only to catch a curse of her own. This curse causes her appearance to change, not unlike what happened to Appie (Alfie) in season 3 of HHA. Who knows? Maybe Alexandra Shipp would have been the recast Nina (though I would probably assume they'd go with a different actress). This would have allowed Nina's story to continue without relying on Nathalia Ramos being there.

The only reason why this might not have worked is because it would have required Nathalia to return to film for one episode, which I'm not sure she would have been willing to do. So I can see why they decided not to go this route, though it would have been 100x better than "The Osirian and Chosen One have to be kept apart."

Another idea I heard on the Wiki back in the day (and was used in a few season 4 fanfics) is that Caroline Denby didn't want Nina to meddle in the ceremony. So she made up the whole "Chosen One/Osirian being apart" thing and told Nina that to convince her not to go back to school. That works, too.

OOH REALLY GOOD QUESTION. I'm leaving out Prison and Meteor because they're so Big and their main power is their Bigness, and Baby because it's closer to the mobs from Prison, but for the rest, in order:

Bomb Shadow- I would definitely do a bomb embedded In Him somehow. Like it's in his chest and he can set it off to damage enemies but it hurts him too

Crow Shadow- Arms turn into wings like Ultimate Lifeform Kars.

Mobility based form rather than combat. Probably inorganic looking like jet wings or something, based on the theme of Gun and Wolf giving mechanical looking upgrades.

Poison Shadow- Dual pistols replace his hands and he can shoot bullets/energy shots or poison

Mold Shadow- COVER HIS EYES WITH THE MOLD FUZZIES. Like Blackveil Vaal Hazak

Suit of Mold Armor and every time he gets hit it spreads spores

Death Game Shadow- I'm thinking about how the face of this Nightmare spins and how it echoes the way his driver spins. Maybe it would let him turn 180° at the waist or something? Just hyper articulation like an action figure

Disaster Shadow- Big cape like lv50 Brave and elemental attacks, maybe a big tank or a valve on his back that lets him change his damage type and it adds different effects to his punches and kicks

Cat Shadow- Easy, big clawed gauntlets replace his hands

Not meaning to be snarky here but british trans people have been reporting on this for ages and it's only really making a splash in the US now that erin reported it. I'm glad that she's taking on the morally necessary international perspective but we've been pretty fucking loud about it. I just sometimes feel like americans don't appreciate that everyone else keeps up with your news out of necessity but the reverse is much rarer.

Trans Kids Deserve Better, the under 18s direct action group that do legitimately more than the vast majority of cis or trans adults, vandalised the NHS headquarters with bloody handprints and "release the trans suicide youth report" because they knew just from being trans kids that there was a massive spike that wasn't coming through in the numbers

TransActual and the Good Law Project have reported on the suicides quite extensively, doing FOIA requests and doggedly pursuing the people responsible who have repeatedly tried to cover it up with no real answers for even the incomplete data that could be accessed which disproved the claim of no rise in suicides. I don't remember which weeks it was now because it was so long ago but on Red Planet we've talked about this several times and keep an ongoing update on Wes Streeting's war on trans kids.

There has been extensive reporting in outlets even as liberal and wet as Pink News about clinic wait times, bolstered by the data accessing and reporting by QueerAF, WhatTheTrans and others.

Even Erin's article is largely just repeating what the Good Law Project's press release said. She hasn't done anything wrong there to be clear, it's just the lack of people broadly paying attention to this story has been a little frustrating is all. The UK getting treated like the 51st state is ingrained by reactionary political currents like the anti-trans movement and it needs to be called out very loudly especially when children are literally being killed by it.

I guess it would've been cool if more people believed the kids from TKDB and reported on it a lot sooner is all. I hope the links are helpful to people

Like there are so many things about this that are not just violent but insulting and dehumanising that will be easily forgotten if nobody is paying attention until it's a story deemed worthy of americans.

Wes Streeting indefinitely extended the ban on puberty blockers the day before what would have been Brianna Ghey's birthday. He was doing it in early November 2024 so that everyone would be too distracted with the US elections to care, and it worked. A sense of international shaming of Britain for being so transphobic was impossible because US elections sucked all the air out of the room

The relationship between the UK and US is actually a very core part of what is being done to us here and I don't want to leave that unsaid.

UPDATE: Fandom has told us that their decision is final, and the wiki will be deleted on April 13. (I shouldn't have to say it, but please do not harass anyone about this.)

With over 9,200 pages, we are the biggest collection of gender identities on the Internet, especially the biggest source that is readily available. We are a community that has existed since 2009, and has taken off in terms of growth in the last few years.

Today, Fandom decided to close the Gender Wiki. We were given absolutely no warning, and they've only given us a two-week deadline to move the entire wiki to a new host, which we are utterly unprepared to do. The download would also not include any of the 17,000+ images on the Gender Wiki, many of which do not exist anywhere else on the Internet.

Fandom staff says that they won't continue to host our wiki because it "spreads harmful misinformation". They believe we have gone too far in "positioning everything as a gender identity", referring to xenogenders. They mention pages with xenogenders referring to suicide/self-harm and violence --- which we, the staff members, were /already/ in the process of deleting before this notice was given to us. They decided that the best solution was not to ask us to delete those pages, or even delete the pages themselves, but instead to remove our entire database.

There are many other wikis on Fandom with much worse references to violence than the Gender Wiki, which Fandom appears to have no problem with whatsoever.

I cannot express enough that this is erasure, and it will absolutely negatively affect the LGBTQ+ community to not have this treasure trove of information readily available.

I am an admin on the Gender Wiki, and I can assure you that our entire staff team is already trying to appeal to Fandom staff. I'll add any updates if they decide to respond to us, but they have no yet given staff any more information than the above

I live on Oahu, in Hawaii, and between March 9 to March 23, two Kona low storm systems slammed into the islands. Oahu's North Shore got hit particularly hard. Residents had to be rescued by bulldozer; the town of Haleiwa was completely cut off by floodwaters. It's a testament to the strength of the community and the first responders on the ground that no one died. I got lucky, only a few possessions of mine got damaged, but I have friends up there who have lost everything.

I was up in Waialua this weekend assisting with clean-up and supply distribution, and while a lot of places are donating materials, the need is just so great- we ran out of diapers larger than a size 3 within the first hour. The Hawaiian Council is matching every donation, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000, doubling the resources available for relief and recovery efforts.

honestly this part made me think like even more that the shadow nightmare was really similar to him... i mean, it makes sense though given it was made from his subconscious yknow.
