I have gotten quite a few asks like these and unfortunately i am very bad at explaining stuff.
I just graduated from the gobelins animation bachelor a couple of days ago, but i will be going back in september for their masters.
However! I don't think you need an art school to get better at art, gobelins likes to give a lot of autonomy to their students and i think ive learned twice as much by myself or from my classmates than the actual school. (If you're looking for info on wether or not you should go to art school, contact students from the school you're looking to attend and ask them their experiences) Everyone has different opinions on these but to me art school is mostly about the network you build? There are a lot of important things you should know as an artist that people never tell you tho.
Anyways. For character design i recommend building yourself a large library of references, of artists that you like, and studying what you like about their art. Personally i do love that shapey stuff, so i love Nico Marlet, Shiyoon kim, Carter Goodrich, Julien Lerolland, Robert Valley, Deanna Marsigliese, Grace liu... etc
I also reccomend doing anatomy studies and life drawing on the side, even if you're more interested in a more flat cartoony artstyle, life drawing has taught me a lot about drawing fast, stylization, gesture, volume and 1000 more things.
For specific tips uhh, get loose with it, dont zoom in too much, and silhouette all the way.
