Guys this is my Apollo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians
listen like. people are totally entitled to their opinions and criticisms of the pjo show but. sometimes it’s just hard to hear/read. I know the show isn’t perfect but seeing the cast & producers talk about it and seeing the level of love and excitement theyve put into the work, idk, I feel for them having people tear it to shreds. criticising the author himself for not adapting it well when he’s doing something different with a new medium, saying they’re sorry for the kids who love the books but have to act in this “terrible” show as if these kids aren’t THRILLED by the opportunity and just so committed to giving the show their best.
(watch the behind the scenes documentary. seriously.)
again totally valid criticisms & opinions!! but you win some and lose some in an adaptation. eg. trying to expand on themes, keep a consistent tone, appeal to a broader audience (including those of us who loved the books as kids but are now!!! adults!!!), keep within budget, etc etc all these things involve some trade offs. sure some of the humour and goofiness has been lost but we also get amazing beautifully acted scenes that really expand on core themes of family or who is a monster etc etc.
speaking on a personal level I have had a hard time these past few months and this show became a genuine escape, a way for me to connect with my sister watching the episodes together, a rediscovery of my inner 12 year old who waited so long for this. and I know there are people who are like me and they had certain expectations and that’s why they’re disappointed and that’s so valid, but it’s a lot of negativity sometimes, & I just wish we could give a little grace bc making a creative thing is hard, and pleasing everyone with that creative thing is impossible, and most of all, maybe we could revel a little bit more in this unique complex piece of work that lots of people poured their hearts into with nothing but the best of intentions.
as someone who has taken a few greek myth/history courses in university, i just want to say that i’m so happy that they took the kleos route in the new pjo show.
in all the myths, with achilles’ and heracles’ being the most prominent, kleos/eternal glory drives why they do what they do. they want to be recognized by others for their feats for as long as possible
without spoiling, with clarisse, luke, annabeth, grover, and percy’s story lines it really makes sense cause they’re all trying to find their own kleos
one of the most intimate scenes i've ever read i'm so serious
Something I love love love is that Percy keeps referring to the gods as their familial titles.
“Your son.” “Your dad.”
This boy knows love. Knows the warmth of his mother’s gaze. Knows how to wrap his arms around friends, tells them they matter, they’re important, they’ll be okay. Knows how to see the best in people, see the good. He’ll hold fast and brave the storm.
He knows how messed up all the games are. All of the god’s stupid rules, and squabbles, and schemes, and pride. That none of it matters
Percy really said y’all don’t know the meaning of family and that’s so sad.
DEMIGODS!
My friend Suz and I just ventured on a journey that is somewhat of a passion project. We first bonded over Percy Jackson in 2019 when we met, only to discover both of our dreams to work within film. Now, 5 years later, we're launching our Percy podcast, where we discuss Percy Jackson and the olympians chapter by chapter and the myths we come across as we go through the story (I can finally use my A in classical studies for something useful). Our introduction episode and the first chapter is already out on both spotify and youtube, which you can find if you go to the camp navigation in the link above. Next episode is out on Sunday. Really hope you're willing to give it a listen!
honestly it pisses me off whenever i see someone hating pjo series. but like, its not for everyone, and you cant make everyone happy. i love how its different from the books cause i dont think i really wanted to see all the same thing again. it now feels as if the percy jackson universe has expanded . and they are doing it right. the show feels like its sepcifically for readers waiting for decades for this. and i love it
Percy calling Kronos grandpa 😭😭 and Sally being like 😐 no. My favourite son and mom duo fr
“I’LL BE RIGHT BY HIS SIDE” AND CUT TO PERCY LOOKING AT ARES APPROACHING WITH THE WATER BEHIND HIM BECAUSE POSEIDON HAS HIS BACK…VILE. DIABOLICAL. I WILL NEVER RECOVER.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023) 1.02 | 1.07
“Ares…is a moron.”
I honestly don’t think that anyone is more amused by the whole “this douchebag decided to try and fight the child of the sea god on a fucking beach” of it all than Poseidon.
annabeth saying zeus will never let percy leave olympus alive and percy replying "I'm done running from monsters" like the line between gods and monsters is completely blurred
I'm GAGGED they GAGGED ME
not gonna lie the show thus far has felt like rick riordan just subtly rewriting his book the way he would do it now to better develop characters and relationships and such and personally i’m here for it because it means we get shit like the consensus song and medusa being a sympathetic villain because girl she was a victim !!
Percy Jackson proving he’s a true New Yorker by not knowing how to drive in the slightest and yet still feeling well within rights to lay on the horn and criticize the guy who cuts him off.
“how is annabeth head of athena cabin” have you ever met an autistic 12 year old girl. she’s running that shit like the navy
Okay,
I’m sick and tired of people bashing this series. No, the movie was NOT better. It got so many things wrong. This series is doing a much better job at adapting the story and they have scenes that actually happened in the book. Don’t even get me started on the sequel The Sea of Monsters. That movie has to be the worst adaptation I’ve ever seen.
People who think that the movie was good clearly don’t know much about this series and what happened in the books.
Yes, Percy Jackson and the Olympians does have some flaws, but everyone I’ve seen (on Reddit mostly) has been hating on it so so much and acting like it’s the absolute worst adaptation ever.
Just enjoy the series. If you don’t like the way the show adapted the story and characters, then just don’t watch.
I seriously don’t get it.
