I’m a big fan of animals with tautonyms, or scientific names where the genus and species is the same word. Along with the anhinga (Anhinga anhinga), other personal favorites include the wolverine (Gulo gulo), the Eurasian magpie (Pica pica, with a subspecies known as Pica pica pica common across Europe), the striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis), the Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo), and the infinitely memebable fish, the bogue (Boops boops).
