i feel like people are overlooking the moment at the beginning of obsession where nikki straight up asks "do you like me?" and once bear lies and says no she replies "ok, good." for starters, it was a chilling moment to me because this is such a classic experience of having a close guy friend, only to realize that he wants more from you. girls aren't dumb! nikki isn't dumb! of course she knows that bear is into her, she has eyes! she can see his stuttering and sheepishness and she's just dreading the moment she has to turn him down, to tell him that he's like a brother to her. just before she had told him that she doesn't feel real love in her life, and i don't think it would be a leap to attribute a small part of that feeling to her fear that her friendship with bear isn't as simple as she wants it to be.

it's also a chilling question from nikki because once she walks away bear knows that she doesn't feel the same way about him, and he makes the wish anyway. he is incapable or unwilling to take a hint and see that she doesn't feel the same way. and that question is the last thing she says to him before he ruins her life forever. it's unfair.

And even if that wasn’t the case, I’m not sure what you mean by “Unwilling to take hint”. She never at any point told him know.

I say this as someone with autism and has difficulty with recognizing tone and body language - You cannot expect everybody to be able to read the room. Sometimes you need to be upfront about what your feelings are.

Frankly, though Bear made many awful decisions throughout the movie, the truth is both Nikki and Bear were not the best communicators, which is where much of the tragedy of the film comes from.

Or when Nikki literally said, “Okay, good.” When Bear replied said he didn’t like her when she asked.

I feel like one of them was clear on how she felt about the other.

I mean, one of them has absolutely no feelings for the other so I feel like she has a LOT less to say, right? Like what do you want her to do, say “hey, I know you’ve never said that you like me, Bear, but I just wanted you to know that I DONT LIKE YOU.”

Nikki was a MUCH better communicator than Bear. She's the person who asked, 'do you like me?' very direct and to the point.

Bear's answer of 'no' was a lie. Technically a direct answer but it's not true. That is beyond bad communication. Lmao.

But when her response to Bear saying he didn't like her was 'good,' idgaf how neurodivergent someone is. Because this isn’t like unspoken social expectations that don't make any logical sense. It's literally a girl expressing satisfaction that he said 'no'. There's no ambiguity in that scene.

(The interview taking place outside the film isn't something Bear, the film character, has access to. Who cares. All he knows is he said no and she said GOOD. And walked away.)

Just saw the interview where Curry Barker explained that it's totally possible to get a normal wish from the One Wish Willow, and I love the way they did that so much. The reason Obsession happened isn't because it's trying to twist Bear's desires into something evil. It's not even because he phrased his want wrong. Obsession happened because Bear got his hands on a magic item that could do anything in existence, and chose to force someone to fall in love with him, which is an inherently evil thing to do.

This is the most considerate advice for doing stretches I've ever seen??? Initially I started to go, "...but I can't do that with my knee-" then he showed a way I could do it. I was like... whoa. A video for stretching that is actually considerate towards my disabilities. Astounding and impressive.

There is something sooo deeply American going on with Seattle Children’s Hospital that I think would brick the minds of everyone outside of the United States.

The CHILDRENS hospital has to restrict helipad landings because of noise complaints from the wealthy home owners living next to it. Only the most urgent patients can land directly at the hospital. While the other kids have to land a mile away and are taken to the hospital via ambulance. Which is an unnecessary risk to the child’s life and also makes the families pay for the helicopter AND ambulance.

I still think about how Mace Windu says to Padmé in Attack of the Clones of Dooku: “you know Count Dooku was once a Jedi? He couldn’t assassinate anyone. It’s not in his character”.

If Mace Windu, he who takes no shit and who suffers no fools, says “it’s not in his character” it tells you a lot about the kind of Jedi Dooku was and how he presented himself. But it also tells of the astonishing depth and speed of his fall. And you can see the deep wound of betrayal on Mace’s face when he draws his blade on Dooku in the arena on Geonosis.
