I just think there should be more fans of Pacific Drive. I just think that "abandoned government facility in an exclusion zone in the woods full of mad scientists and eldritch horrors" is like, the ideal fanfic playground.
Like sure, there's the SCP foundation, you can go into that humanitarian mess all day long. But ARDA? That's a fucking bureaucratic nightmare. Like this organization is recklessly causing all the anomalies and they will not admit it even to their own researchers. They're looking at a pile of car parts shambling down the street like "Wow, wonder what could be causing that. Anyway we need five bajillion more tons of gasoline with which to power our hot new technology to impress the soviets." and "Yeah we know the entire staff had concurrent violent hallucinations of the Hat Man last night but you shouldn't talk about it." and "We know 18 people died last time but we've got to dump more irradiated garbage in that hell portal, stat." and "What's that, Dr. Lombard? You haven't slept in 8 months and neither has anyone else? Don't be silly. Unrelated, we're holding our staff meetings at 4 AM now."
And did they stick it out to the bitter end? Did they go the way of so many other unethical research facilities, utterly destroyed by their own hubris? Fuck no. They just walked away. Gave up and closed down. No cleanup. Nothing but some big concrete walls separating Seattle from 8-foot spheres of acid. And sure they technically evacuated the place, but hundreds of the staff were like "you can't make us leave." so now they're just. Living in there?
Plus I mean, shit, we've got the old man yaoi built in. I just want someone to draw Tobias and Francis carrying each other around like Shaggy & Scoob while some Unregulated Fucking Thing barrels through the swamp after them.
